Good. I've got no problem with games that have a cash shop, but only if they are "free" to play normally. Considering how most of those are gimped in some way to make the CS use required, seeing that happen to a pay to play game is even worse...
I had allready posted this in the original thread where people were discussing it.

The problem was there was a really popular thread still going on about rmt and turbine in the general forum of this web site where people kept missing where you posted that. There were tons of posts about how I will quit lotro if they add rmt and so on and so on. I wanted to help ease the fear of people by granting this its own thread.
Just for future reference to the guy that asked, RMT = Real Money Traders (or Trading) And it caused a fuss because Sony started doing it in their games...
Allow me to be a dick. RMT == Real Money Transaction(s)
But who really cares what the 'T' means?
I just came back from the official EQ2 forums and it's quite a mess, even now after a few weeks of the RMT system being in place. I wonder what this year's first quarter subscription numbers for SOE will look like on MMO Charts?
Hmm Smed said close to the samething not long ago and look what happened there
Yeah, but all Turbine has to do is look at SOE and see how they are absolutely destroying their customer base by screwing this up. Last I checked there was an 85 page thread saying they wouldn't have bought the last expac to EQ2 had they known they were bringing in RMT to a pay to play game. The rest of the thread was basically filled with "I quit."
Turbine is to small to make a huge mistake like that. The company itself couldn't survive and many people would just boycott the next thing coming from them if they did this to an existing game.
In America I have bad teeth. If I lived in England my teeth would be perfect.
so all of SOE's games have a system where you can buy in-game items for real cash ? And apparently Turbine's future secret MMO will also use this ? what the hell is happening to MMO's
I don't see a problem with free2play games having RMT but a pay2play game with RMT, forget that bull crap. This does seem to be the new thing to try in MMO's however.
RMT's really don't seem to work in a U.S. market though because we don't like feeling like we are getting nickel and dimed to death. We would rather pay our monthly or yearly fee and be done with it.

Oh that's not true. That's just conjecture. If they thought they could implement rmt in LOTRO and that it would be a wanted feature by a good many people they could very well do it.
Just because you don't want it doesn't make it an evil thing. Or a good thing for that matter. Turbine knows what rmt can mean and will make any future decisions based upon a variety of factors.
As I said on the official boards, just because x amount of people say that they will leave doesn't mean that the game wouldn't then attract y amount of people who wanted it or preferred it.

that doesnt bother me.
What concerns me is I'll bust my tail to get an amazing Sword only to see some other player with it who bought the item.
It cheapens accomplishments in MMO's. And make no mistake, it wont be just fluff items that go for sale. Eventually useful items and even best possible items will find a market of buyers. When that happens, Ill cancel MMO's forever. What the hell would be the point in playing if I could just buy all my epics

Yeah if they thought they could make more money they would do it. Here is where Turbine and SOE differ. Turbine knows they wouldn't make more money by doing this so why would they? SOE just does stuff without thinking things through but only going after the dollar.
Who said it was evil or good?

My sense is that Sony is really tied into the business of being a business. It just happens that one of their divisions makes/publishes games.
Turbine is first and foremost a game maker. They are not creating product until their next product comes out so that they can "sunset" their old products. That's not to say they wouldn't ever close a game down (AC 2) but hearing that quote from Smedley gave me a bit of a shiver.
And not in a good way.

I couldnt see RMT coming to LotRO.
It would of bascially killed the game.
I'm happy Turbine isn't adding it in.

I didn't think Turbine would do this for an existing game, and I'm glad to see I've been reassured of that.
care to offer more details to those who dont play LOTR and have no idea what RMT means ?
Micro Transactions. I.E. Using real world money to buy items in game. If you want to ruin a really good game, put that in it.
