as the title states ....
1) i know this game is geared toward the soloer ... which is meh whatever to me ... not here to argue solo vs group.
2) i believe there is an xp bonus for groups of three or more.
So what i mean by viable is leveling at a decent rate ... I have always felt that duoing for instanced dungeon crawls was netting me garbage xp compared to questing solo. so with a trio (which i believe an xp bonus kicks in), would instance dungeoning our (my wife and I) way through the game be viable?

<gasp> Is someone actually tired of playing an MMO and not being social? Maybe if GROUPING was the fastest way of getting exp, MMOs would have a community and the whole... MMO bit again .

Doing a 5 man dungeon in Wow brings you far more experience than doing solo quests.
But again that's calculating to faster leveling, which isn't a good idea anyway. Best experience is to level very slowly and only do a dungeon crawl if you like the story line or setting of the dungeon.
I always say no to a low level guy when he asks me to boost, unless he can show me he has the questing line and wants to see the stories behind it (for example get the pala mace at level 24 or in the old days get the lvl 60 warlock horse in Dire Maul).
I ignore the level 11 who asks to do Dead Mines.
I also refuse to play the NPC waiting role for the tank or priest who "gets a smoke" or has "a business call" at 10.00 PM.
There are how many dungeons and raids in Wow? 75? And perhaps 1000 group quests in the open. But MMORPG's are NOT about HAVING to group with people only WILLING to group with people and have a choice.
You can 3 man up to ZF and ULD safely I suppose. But the quest exp is so easy to get and your both gonna get full exp for them so I would quest and be sure if you do 2 or 3 man something to get all the quests going in. I would still try to do some raiding starting out for some gear, I would solo bosses early on with my druid just for gear drops not for xp. But hey its wow you will get exp as long as your hacking at something.
Funny I helped the level 11s who wanted a run, if I had the time, but I'm not a prick.
There are so MANY low levels doing DeadMines that a boost is not even needed. Moonbrook these days is complete empty of Defias NPC's because they are killed the moment they respawn.
So because you only get the quests for Deadmines on lvl 14-16, guys asking this don't follow any lore or story telling. They just want boosts and level with "an arrow above their head".
Tools, add ons and tricks like these kill that beautiful feeling of playing Wow. And after having leveled with that arrow above their heads these same guys are coming to forums telling Wow is too easy and boring.
That's why I only help people who have a difficult time getting someting rare in a not so good populated zone. Like the pala horse in Scholomance. Beautiful quest line I did with friends ... at level 62/63 instead of level 60. I could wait ...
guys guys .... let me rephrase.
I'm tired of the questing in order to level, i come from games like EQ and DAOC where dungeon crawling netted you pretty darn good xp. last time i tried WoW I duoed it with my Wife and when we did a dungeon (shadowfang keep) it gave us just garbage xp.
so now that my wife has a second account I am hoping to be able to trio these instances with the bonus xp and level at a decent rate without running tons of mundane quests.
You gained low XP because you were doing dungeons way below your levels.
If the difference is 10 levels you won't get any experience at all.
That's called "the challenge". Shadowfang Keep is supposed to be a low level 19-23 lvl dungeon, played by 5 players maximum.
Since you could do it with 2 I think perhaps you are in your 30's.
Go to the Wow website and look which instances can be run in your level bracket.
Wow is NOT about fast leveling, Wow is about challeging dungeons and content just above your own level (because you get good drops for your level). If you do Shadowfang Keep at level 30, all you get is garbage and no experience (except if you wan to have a rare drop like Shadowfang sword that can be sold for 500 Gold on the Auction House).
Have fun.
actually we were 21 when we went in there ... paladin and warlock. wasnt really all that hard if you know what your doing. its not rocket science for someone who's been around the block.
if you want to raid and thats what im hear for i hear WoW has some of the best raids around ... then yes it is a rush to the endgame.
I don't know about that...wow is pretty darn fast to level in.
It's a proven historical fact that beer saved humankind.
If you've got a good group of 5, or even a good group of 4, you can get faster experience from dungeons while levelling. You just have to all have about equal level, and pick a dungeon with about your level enemies in there. In WoW it's not good to fight enemies many levels above nor below your level, and even one much higher level party member reduces the experience gained by all, and much lower level party members aren't really that helpful in battles. So pick up a group with about your level people, and go to instance with your level enemies. And run it multiple times in a row. Finding out that good group just may be the problem.
But if you go to dungeon of your level with just a 3 men party, you have to spend too much time staying alive or recovering from battle. A group of 5 can have 3 people doing pure dps, 1 person tanking/doing dps, and 1 person healing/doing dps. With a good group, they will never have to stop to recover but can just run from one battle to another continously through whole instance.
Wheras a group of 3 in same instance would have 1 healing/dps, 1 tanking/dps, and only 1 pure dps. The damage per second per player is lower, and thus the killing speed is slower. Even if the experience is divided only between 3 people, in WoW the mobs give more experience when killed by larger group (party bonus), so the experience/time is bound to be smaller than with a group of 4 or 5.
If you are playing with your wife, the fastest way for 2 people to level would theorethically be picking up good matching classes for it, and AoE grinding normal mobs together. With a larger party (more than 3) AoE grinding non-elites won't be very viable any more because there aren't enough mobs anywhere. But with just 2 players it can be the fastest experience you can possibly gain without any tricks like a booster.
several RL friends of mine recently re-rolled on a server, fresh from scratch.
weve been doing nothing but instance runs 2 or 3 times a week. Theyve toned down instances a LOT, and depending on our level vs. mobs we've been 3 manning most instances.
We were able to complete scarlet monestary with a full group at level 32-34. We did most of the early phases like a hot knife through butter with 3 and 4 people.
so my answer, is absolutely. You can run 3 man instances if you're within say 3 levels of the mob. You may need to pug a player or two for higher level instances. Im sure as we go up in level, things may change a bit but currently we 3 man instances at level 30-ish such as gnomergan in roughly an hour just hitting bosses. We also can do the scarlet monestary Library and graveyard in 40 minutes (3 people, paladin/priest/rogue all level 32).
weve done instances repeatedly and all our toons are very much twinked now.

You may be a better player than me, but I honestly don't think you can quickly do dungeons with only two people unless you are above the recommended level from 1-60. Either your pace would be really slow or you would have a lot of death runs.
From 61-80, you can certainly level very fast doing instances, especially if you have a tank and healer and invite some random dps players to your group.
Questing 1-60 is very very fast now, if you are questing with a partner.. I would guess you could do it within 24hrs /played if you knew what you were doing. Once you get to 61, then invite along a couple dps and you can do nothing but dungeons.
no offense but i really don't care how fast the leveling is for questing. to me questing is mindnumbingly boring ... in fact i would rather saw off my fingers with a butter knife than run a quest ... thats how much i enjoy questing!
All I want to know is .... what is the bonus xp like for people who are trioing a instanced dungeon crawl and would it level a character at a decent rate?

I managed to find the formula from WoWWiki, the party gets 16% bonus from killing a mob if there are 3 players, 30% bonus with 4 players, and 40% bonus with 5 players. Of couse the experience gets divided between players, so assuming a party of same level characters the experience gained by one character would be: alone - 100%, 2 players (no group bonus) - 50%, 3 players - 38.67%, 4 players: 32.5%, 5 players - 28%.
You have to take into account that elites give more experience than just normal mobs when comparing the effectivity of soloing non-elites to killing elites in a dungeon. I'd suggest using an addon to monitor how much experience per hour you get and making your decisions based on that, and just forgetting the math behind how much bonus exp you get.
But if you want to level at a decent rate, then trioing a dungeon is a good option. Of course this depends on your classes and specces, especially if you don't have anyone capable of healing then it would be a bit suicidal. If you want to level at really fast rate, that's not very doable with a group of 3 in dungeon, a larger group would be better.
And info about group experience bonus on WoWWiki: www.wowwiki.com/Formulas:Mob_XP#Group_Experience
There are guides that explain how to make lvl 60 in shortest time possible. This simply is not possible without doing certain quest runs.
With the right guide and a few mods you can run through quest lines very very fast and get to the levels you want and do the raiding you wish.
If you refuse to do quests and expect to get to raid content...well your a moron and should saw off your fingers like you suggested doing to yourself earlier.
If your willing to do quests, check out James leveling guide for whatever faction you select.
You can locate all the guides at www.wow-pro.com they are free, I wouldn't pay for a guide that's for suckers.
You will be fine just is wow is made to level fast, so as long as you are killing. Then you will level at some time.
