Biggest Upcoming MMO Hype

So, this has been a question I've been asking myself over and over...

What MMO can I look forward to next?

Well, you tell me, what are you looking forward to? Post what game your most hyped about and why. I hear talk about Aion, Darkfall, Huxley, etc.

Anyways once I get a more broad idea of what everyone is looking forward to I'll post a poll.

The poll is already done.  Look on the front page of this website.

Ask me again in about 3/5 years from now, nothing comming soon to be MMORPG hyped about for me.

Game wise there are a few multiplayer online quest games coming soon that might be fun, just not much MMORPG's to look forward to these day's

Darkfall looks to be the most hyped game, but, to me, it just looks like a nicely done Mount & Blade mod. Same graphics, same animation style, just with different models and with a few altered features.

Lol you really get off on saying it's a mount and blade mod don't you, is that what you honestly believe? You honestly tell yourself that? Lol, pathetic.

Theres not many big projects coming out soon. Aion is a Korea game and nature they all suck donkey-balls.

Big project must be Blizzards upcoming MMO that they call "Next-gen-MMO". Wont be around for another 4-5 years I think.

MMO that has an amazing background and interesting way of being published is Funcom's The Secret World. No dates given, but presumably it has to come into market before 2012. Heres the story so far in Forums: http://www.darkdemonscrygaia.com/showthread.php?t=342

    MMO's/Co-ops I will try in 2009

Total War empire (should come soon) http://www.sega.co.uk/empire/index.php?t=EnglishUK

Battleforge (You can get a free beta account at the moment)

Lords of the Rings: Conquest (not exactly MMO but has co-op. Few days of fun here)

Diablo3 of course (co-op again but as a former nul-cable player I think these count as multiplayers^^)

Otherwise, I keep my eye on Bethesda softworks who does Elder Scrolls, and Fallout series.

I'm looking forward to Bioware's Star wars MMOG. Not because I'm a star wars fanboi, but because I'm a Bioware fanbio :) (Also looking forward to Mass Effect 2 and DragonAge from them, but those are of course not MMOG's)

The next MMO you should look forward to is Aion. It's doing really well in Korea, wich is much more than most of the recently released MMOs since they aren't doing well anywhere. And by the time it reaches western markets, it'll most likely be quite polished product. Read the reviews once its out.

But besides Aion, there aren't really any big products launching soon. Blizzard's next MMO, Bioware's Knights of the Old Republic MMO, SOE's Agency, Guild Wars 2, and LEGO Universe are all some time away. I don't have much knowledge of Cryptic's next MMO projects, but I think they are some time away too.

Of the smaller products, Darkfall promises much and is launching very soon, yet is has proved nothing. TCoS launched in some parts of the world, and will be launching in some parts of the world (including USA) likely this year, once Acclaim gets their act together and finally launches it. Mortal Online promises much, and launch at summer 2009, but wether they keep the promise remains to be seen. As far as I know the game is still in Alpha.

I'm looking forward to Earthrise, Fallen Earth and Star wars TOR. Earthrise looks like something new and we need more Sci-Fi MMO's. I am so sick of sword and board elves and trolls. Fallen Earth looks like it will have some char generation and peice work armor design (so everyone doesn't look the same). Star wars TOR looks like it will be fun (like Force unleashed). I am a little worried about it not having other classes posted yet but they do have a long time before the game is going to be released to post more.

For the 7th year in a row Darkfall wins most anticipated game releasing the following year.  Congradulations to the developers at Darkfall.

Currently, I am most hyped about Mabonogi 2.

The graphics in Aion look gorgeous so assuming the EU launch isn't delayed I would love to see it for myself first hand. The graphics in Darkfall aren't quite as pretty but I am interested in trying out that also, even though I suspect it might not be quite my 'Cup of Tea'. The one I am most looking forward to in the hopefully near future though is 'Champions' as I use to sometimes play the old 'Pen & Paper' game.

Trying out new things is always fun & at least for regular subscription games I always feel that I have had  my money's worth just for the experience, even if I don't continue playing after the first month.

If you can't "Have your cake & eat it too", then how can "The proof of the pudding be in the eating"?

At the moment... nothing really. I know too little about those games I am interested in. I think DC Universe might be a good game. Not a killer game, but real fun. The next realy big MMO could be SWTOR, but its still too far to say.

Aion and JGE...nothing else looks even remotely promising. 98% of MMO's are complete trash, its just the good ones are the best games you can get. I knew AoC and WAR would both suck over a year ago...and Aion doesnt have 25% of the hype those games had.

  • CursedseiCursedsei Member Posts: 1,012

I'm currently looking forward to Earthrise and Champions Online. I might include the DC MMO, but honestly, the "npcs holding grudges against you" idea puts me off, as well as all the rampant fact of "ZOMG BATMAN!" that I am almost quite certainly sure will be in the game. Aion is a game I'd love to try, not exactly something I have to play, but I do want to try it out.

When it comes to F2P though, only Mabinogi: Heroes looks good. I saw the trailer for it, and it gives me shivers. Destructible parts of the environment, using it as a weapon. Not to mention the combat isn't quite auto-attack and there will most likely be freedom like the first game gives.

The biggest hype surrpounds the one which is being released soonest. In this case its Darkfall online

A lot of talk on Darfall online. The question is will it live up to its hype?

Very very very few games live up to their hype

Guys! I'm hopelessly lost in a mountain of mole hills! Them damn moles!

  • The problem in picking and choosing MMOGs ahead of time is that the devs keep all the cool features close to the breast and so you don't know about them til the game launches.

I'm not really looking forward to any MMOGs atm...it all looks like the same 'ol sh!t in a different package. In fact, it's highly unlikely that I'll be impressed with a MMOG 'til 2015 or so.

I'll just keep playing the free ones 'til something really worthwhile comes along...like maybe a Shadowrun MMOG in the year 2017.

A game that caught my eye today while looking was Mortal Online.  Its often described as a much better looking version of Darkfall.  I think until previously it only had 1 screenshot and 1 video to back up its validity.  However they released a lot of new screenshots and it really looks fantastic (for anyone who likes the FFA PvP genre).

I am really looking forward to Guild Wars 2 because I loved Guild Wars 1, it was the only game I know of that has completely skill based PvP. I haven't heard much about it, and it isn't coming out for a while but all and all, check it out.

Well I've played just about every F2P game out there and numerous P2P games, so the only thing I'm looking forward to is Champions Online lol. Really hard to find a good MMO....

  • MikehaMikeha Member EpicPosts: 9,196

AION will be the next big MMO and all the haters saying that its just another Korean game will be right there playing it when it comes out.

There is already such kind of post. There is a real long gamelist of the mmorpg , and maybe the winner has come to the world

  • wittensteinwittenstein Member Posts: 8

I'll give Earthrise a try and perhaps Darkfall, if it's really what they promised.

  • IhmoteppIhmotepp Member Posts: 14,495

The Old Republic, and Champions Online. Nothing else looks interesting so far.
