Impressions after 33 levels....

In my opinion the game world is very uninspired.    It is as if they created a vast empty world and used a random mob creator to create and place mobs.  There is no theme to anything here.   You'll find Zombies in an indian village (teepees) but no Indians.   You'll run into Treants in the desert.   You'll find snake people in the snow.    Fuzzy eyeballs with cartoon wings.  Serpentine women with seashells on thier nipples in the forest.    Lazy and uninspired.

Movement is point and clik unless you can stomach the glitchy rubberbanding effect that is the result of using WASD.    You'll frequently find yourself hung up on trees, ledges, bones and other objects placed in the virtual world.

I do like the weapon and armor system.   Weapon and Armor are not "bound" and can be resold.   The weapon and armor upgrade system reminds me very much of 2moons (a game I loathe otherwise).

At lvl 33 i find my Berserker with too many buffs, I believe 7 or 8, and they are all on different cooldowns, so you are constantly finding yourself missing one buff or another.   Tedius.

Looting is where this game falls flat on its face.   If you are not in a group you must loot every kill by cliking on your space bar.    There is a delay after each kill as the loot drops, then an apparent delay (i hesitate to call it lag) for picking up the loot.  No matter how fast you spam your space bar, you will only pick up your loot so fast.    If you are killing just one mob at a time this is only mildly annoying, but this game is built around the fast paced AOE leveling model of rounding up mass amounts of mobs and killing them in a couple hits with powerful AOE spells.   Imagine rounding up 15 mobs, each dropping 1 potion, 1 pile of gold, and any random item drop.  That is a minimum of 30 times you must clik on your spacebar to collect your loot.

Here is the kicker...if you are in a group, its "auto loot".  No looting necessary.  Why this option is not available to the solo player is beyond me.   So far every single group I have been in has been solely for auto loot purposes only (often players are no where near each other).    Grouping for PVE seems totally pointless at this point because killing anything 6 or more lvls higher will not reward you with xp or dropped loot.   I can kill anything in mass groups in my "loot range" solo.   Two players would just be redundant unless you need to kill a boss. So you solo... but you need to be in a group to get the luxury of Auto loot.   Trying to get a group in the shout channel amongst all the gold seller spam can be frustrating.

The Auction house is a mess.   It has a search field in it, if you are trying to search "gold nugget" you'll get "invalid searh" because you failed to capitalize "Gold Nugget".   Also, You can't just type in one word and get every item with that word.    You must type the item exactly as it is named, caps included to get it to come up in a search.  The search is virtually useless.    The Auction house is set up with drop down menus and pages of like items can only be accessed by toggling through every page.   Items are listed in no particular order and the there are no ways of filtering so if you are looking for a shield and there are 177 pages you will have to click through each page, moving your cursor over each item on each page to see its random stats.  Now if you go to say.. page 56 from page 55 and decide that the item on page 55 was worth a second look, hitting the back arrow will send you right back to page one forcing your to click your way through each laggy page.

You can purchase Mounts with in game gold in various amounts, but they only last 70 hours and disapear.   The best mounts cost 50 million gold.

The armor sets and weapons are pretty cool looking.   The game graphics are average.   Game performance can be laggy in towns (like most games).

PvP is open and at lvl 30 you  can be attacked by anyone outside of towns.   My first trip out the gate after I turned 30 I was one hit by a lvl 57 who was obviously bored.   You do not drop items or incur an xp penalty as a victim of pvp unless you were in battle with a mob.

It is free to play with micro transactions (item mall)  I actually like how they have done this.   Players wishing to aquire Mall items can buy them from other players as well as teh mall currencty.   So if you are committed to not paying for anything in this game with real cash you can.

3% loss of xp for dieing (against mobs only).

I'm 33 and I am bored.   Time between log ins are growing longer and the time spent in game is growing slower and slower.

I don't regret trying it out but I certainly would have been very upset if I had paid 49.99 for the boxed client when it hit the stores some time ago and I certainly would not pay a montly fee.

We are about in the same spot as far a level goes in Archlord.  My take is a little more positive.

I like how they set up the casual party system.  There is not much that you have to rely on your group members for (unlike Guild Wars).  I like it and have meet some cool people.  Even got a free helm that I am still using just for helping a dude out.

I thought it was funny when my light went up and I stopped to admire my character sheet and got ganked.  LOL, its still funny when Ithink about it.    PvP is a big part of the game and its not really out of control.  You can go for days with out even getting in a fight unless you are looking for one.

This is a classic MO as in Multi-Player.  I dont belong to a very active guild and only play week ends myself.  I  rarely have trouble getting in a party.  Sometimes I have to shout out, other times I dont.

I play Archlord about the same that I play Guild Wars.  Each have thier good and bad points.  You are right that its darn good for free.

I got my Berserker to level 29 before I stoped playing.  I thing about it sometimes though because at lv30 I get to use a helm and 2 new rings.  Money is very easy to get by reselling potions in the AU from a tax free town.  But the solo PvE is what kills it for me.  I like to be able to solo (unlike when I played DAoC), but I like to play a MMOG because I'm grouping with others.  And finding a place to solo in a Dungeon is hard.

I agree it could be much better.  It is not all bad and maybe will be improved in time.

BTW, just hold the spacebar down during your battle. No need to press it each time to loot.

    LOL

i wish, i knew english better(i'm ukrainian) to write here all i'm thinking about first post. )))

I've played Archlord for 7 monthes(Server Evengarda), i have lvl 72 Sorc there.  The most hard period in game is 30-40lvls, coz at this time when you lvling up you decide to play or not to play (to be or not to be). People who reach lvl 40 and above will keep playing, but those who telling that this game bored or else till lvl 40, will never play again. At these lvls you understad most part of game, it's difficult, all + and -. The most interesting part is after lvl 40, killing mobs is more easy, new armor, new weapon, new friends, etc.

About party - it's great to have a party there, you can meet new friends, new foes))) etc. You forget to tell about bonus when you're in party... If the party leader is mage(sorc) all party members recive additional 120HP(when the leader reach 50 lvl it's increasing to 180HP), if the leader is knight or berserker you recive add 10 attack, when the leader is scout - you recieve add 10 defense. (at higher lvls it's increase also).

I can write about this game much much more, but it's no point, you should try to play it.

And don't judge the game when you playing few days! Archlord is the best MMORPG i ever played)

Try it, and enjoy it ;)

Sorry for all my marks, i'm from Ukraine, i don't know Enlish well) Ihope, you understand all)))

I completely understand that, some games need a high lvl person to tell others what its really like, might take the time to break through the learning curve or so.

I like this thread, its led me to decide to give it a whirl. I love open pvp games, not that I am a pvp'r or pk'r, I just like the sense of danger when I'm out and about doing my thing. Makes all games more thrilling.

It has only 1 server atm, named Tullan.. i heard the server was released Aug. 20 so i think we can still catch up, im still actually a lowbie but i still find so many people at the low lvl areas where i lvl.. if you wanna try the game, i'd recommend a Moon Elf - Elementalist cause i heard they got the highest magic damage and they have summon(i recommend this char cause i wanna try it too.. LOL)..
