Well after reading allot of posts between both sides.I do wonder; If Darkfall fails to launch in February,What would your reaction be then?

People forget about the game again until they announce another date. Then we start the cycle once again.

Sent me an email if you want me to mail you some pizza rolls.

    • The trolls will have a field day
    • The apologists will find excuses and probably thank Aventurine for delaying the game until it's ready
    • Everybody in between will probably be disappointed, but not completely surprised

The game design is too good for it to not be developed and released by someone ....

Nothing will actually happen. The same fans will continue to follow and make excuses and the naysayers will keep on doing their thing.

In fact, as ridiculous as it sounds, in December I predicted, that exactly one full year from that December date, we would all still be here in the same exact position we are in now. Nothing will even really change by year-end 2009.

I'll take it one step farther. We will ALL be here discussing this exactly ONE year from this date.

Thursday is going to be hilarious.

People will come here posting "Omg wtf where do i download" because the Darkfall site/forums will remain totally unchanged, and not a word will be spoken by the devs. Just more silence.

    I have my popcorn ready,

This is not really true though.. the fans actually do go away.  If Feb 25th comes and goes, most of the current fans will disappear.

The problem (and this has happened 3 times already in the past with Darkfall) is that in 6 months or a year from now, Tasos will announce the major gameplay features ( FFA pvp, full loot, sandbox) and there will be a whole new group of 'fanboys' who will start this whole cycle all over again.  They will start out fresh, and give Tasos the benefit of the doubt.   They won't understand why there are so many 'haters' and they will say the stuff that happened with Darkfall in the past doesn't matter etc etc.  Haters will post 'links' to Taso's lies, but the fanboy's hope will overcome it.  The delays were because Tasos had to upgrade to Dx12 and because he is a small indie company that publishers avoid.... etc etc.

This exact same thing has already happened 3 times already.  The same drama, the same haters vs fanboys and the same outcome.

We'll wait around until a game that is actually worth playing shows up.  Until then we'll see what darkfall has to offer.

I think it's moot because they will release in February. If that doesn't happen, then yea, I agree with a previous poster a lot of fans will move on. You can argue about when DF was supposed to beta test, when it was first supposed to release, etc., etc.

But this is the first time the Developers have stated, we're releasing in one month, and then missed that date. If THAT happens yet again, I don't see how they can keep any credibility at all.

At that point you could say the release date would be whenever, and it will be unrelated to any announcements by Tasos.

Only problem is that there is not much to "move on" to. There isn't another big MMO release for a little while.

From what I've heard according to the reviews people have given the Devs during the beta, the only big problems people have with the game is the UI. Everything else seems to be pretty good for release material. Im excited to see the AI that is actually challenging.

What you read was feedback hand-picked and disseminated by Tasos.  While it may be valid, it's not particularly objective.

The fanboys will be very happy and celebrate it as very good news. They will say it's the best it can happen because the game will be even more polished and not released in a poor condition like the rest of MMOs.

Though I question whether some DF followers ever learn anything.  There are those "proudly' claiming they have been following this game for years.  Part of the reason DF has been gaining such hype is because they keep adding followers in spite of the repetition.    Some of the followers learn, others just keep swallowing the hype, adding to the numbers.

There were a few of these threads in Decmber asking the same question. Most of the fanbots swore January 25th was the "last chance". And now, most of those same fanbots will swear February is the "last chance".

The cycle won't end until the game is finally exposed to the public and they see what they've been waiting for.

Hope the forums can take the cries of disappointment and anger when that happens/

As for being trapped in a DF loop that wont happen much longer.  Its possible that two new sandbox PvP MMOs will be out late this year and both are getting a proper amount of Dev/Player interaction. So DF window of opportunity is closing fast.

In regards to the type of leaks we are seeing do not forget that the testers were overwhelmingly Tasos fans. That was done by accident? Yeah right. I am more inclined to place more value on a negative leak at this point since it explains oh so much about the weirdness(even for Av) we have seen the last three months. How much longer are people going to give Tasos any credibility considering he has yet to earn any.

There will never be a "last straw".  There will always be DF apologists who stick around until the day the game finally releases and proves if their devotion was worth it or not.

Heck, Duke Nukem still has fans out there.

Which is why Duke Nukem Forever and Daikatana will be remembered as the best games ever released. Add Darkfall to the list.

Daikatana actually WAS released -- to a thunderous yawn, as a buggy, unplayable, outdated, piece of crap. I'm not surprised you didn't realize it actually shipped. Judging by sales figures, not many people did.
