The Mortal Online official site has been updated with a few brief notes about beta testing and a community event, as well as a countdown clock which is currently at 53 days and some change.
Beta development
We have a very hectic and interesting half year in front of us, as we now have entered into the beta development phase of Mortal Online. Due to heavy workload we unfortunately have very little time for releasing new information this month - the game must always be our top priority.Ending notes
That´s all we have to offer this time. Don’t forget to check the forums for upcoming releases and other fun stuff. We developers try to be active on the forums whenever possible, to read or answer your questions and comments.

they are working pretty fast. things must be going well
They are pretty much on schedule if you review the published timeline they have for MO. Here's hoping they don't have any major or minor setbacks.
"Many nights, my friend... Many nights I've put a blade to your throat while you were sleeping. Glad I never killed you, Steve. You're alright..."
Chavez y Chavez
When i hear of a new small time developer,i can't help but think fail. The little i could gather on this whole developer is sketchy, because a lot of info is in Swedish i believe.
One thing for sure,is they have the engine, they seem to have the direction[a true gamer] and the very good possibility the game will at least look good. What i would really like to know is the size of their staff, that is IMO the most important aspect, because no matter how skilled each individual is,you cannot get more than 24 hours in a day and many aspects of gaming take very long periods to make them great.
Since i have got kind of bored with Eq2/FFXI pl;ayed the heck out of them,i have been looking frantically for a new game that can deliver in DEPTH of gameplay.I do not mean superficial PVP whack away at each other,i have already seen enough of that lately, and not one of the developers get it right EVER and frankly they never will.
I think myself and many can agree the core of MO will look good and probably play fine and have quality animations.Depth as i define it ,is what sets a game apart from all the other junk.
Examples....
Buildings that actually play a part other than static objects in the world.I tire of static NPC's standing in front of static buildings, that shows LITTLE effort so i would expect the rest of the game to be the same.
In depth combat with well defined classes. If a game takes the easy way out by just allowing skillpoints, then it fails large,it again shows the developer did not want to put in the time and effort to create quality classes.
Combat with extreme math equations lots of variance to make for tons of variations in combat.Example is have all elements as large factors,fire>ice...water>fire ....sword >leather...hammer>plate...knife>cloth..just to name a few examples of in DEPTH combat.FFXI has the most in depth ,if you want to compare quality, but can be taken MUCH further.
Then we have the ABILITIES,this falls into the in DEPTH class part, you need tons of well defined abilities, that again make for fun and innovative combat.Scratching the bare surface would be things like Flee/Rooting/Warping/AOE/COMBO attacks/attacks that need 2/3/4 players to complete ect ect.
Something that has proven to be a HUGE asset to gaming is the SUB-CLASS system, you can choose to copy FFXI or develope a different unique approach either way it is better than the same old same old.
CRAFTING<<<<this part is huge, most Korean or asian games do not even have crafting, they have what i call IMBUE,it is the lazy developers approach and is not crafting. The database should be huge and follow sort of like EQ2 with books/harvesting/creating.
QUESTS<<another biggie. If we the players see anymore of the same old go kill 10 bears and return,i think we are going to go insane.Someone out there i am sure can use their brain a little.Look to Eq2 again as they have quest trees, that could follow each individuals class or race.Do NOT design a game that leads to all the best gear in raids or instances, that part is again OLD and out dated.
These were just a few aspects that go into showing the Developer put in the time and effort to CREATE a game.If we just see the same old game mechanics but with a different TITLE/WORLD it will fail. Those games have already been done,we do NOT need more of the same, in the same competition with each other, all it does is dilute the small crowd the games have to draw from.It is not a secret WOW draws players off of itself,it's massive player base entices more and more to join, empty servers are a 100% guarantee fail, for ANY game.If players see empty servers the rest will leave as well and vice versa, they see lots of players, they will keep coming in drones.
This is why it is VERY important that each and every game with POTENTIAL that comes out needs to put in the effort to CREATE,not copy or simply implement the easiest way out.A game needs to cry out "WE WANT TO PLAY THIS"if it just looks like a game people will TRY OUT,they most likely will go back to their old games, and the developer will struggle come 3 months into the release, maybe sooner.
I sincerely wish MO the BEST OF LUCK,i hope they succeed and give the MANY players waiting for a true game, the GAME we need .
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.
I'm looking forward to this one.
My one worry is the stability of the game.
With graphics like that it will certainly keep a good majority of gamers from playing it.
Not everyone wants to buy a new PC everytime a game launches.
My PC was bought 16 months ago, I don't plan on upgrading or buying a new one for atleast 4-5 years.
Playing: Nothing
Looking forward to: Nothing
True but should these games always be graphcally static?
Of course they should allow some sort of graphic scaling but as I see players complaining about things such as Lord of the Ring's graphics I can't but think that players want to play these games on 3 or more year old computers and expect developers not to use the latest tools at their disposal.
I bet people complained over the orginal EQ because computers coulnd't handle them. Obviously any game that released today looking like the original EQ would have t have asstounding gameplay in order to get over the dated look.

some peopels really upgrading their PC's only all 4-5years? omg .. what do they with the old hardware? into the garbage bin? i upgrading all 6-12 months... i just do not want play tetris over and over again and supporting, with a upgrade, the hardware and softwareindustry. this is how innovations get on track.

What?? LOL people complained so much one coudl swear they were told they HAD to ride a bike forever instead of driving acar or truck. EQ was the first MMO to REQUIRE a 3d graphics card .. people complained about that alone .. AGP didnt hit the scene till the very end of 97.. back then you couldnt even find a band new computer for less than about 1200( gettinga friend to put it together aqnd not charge for labor)
So you can imagine how upset people got when after they bought the game they had to buy a new video card that supported 3d graphics .. I was one .. started playing EQ in 1999 at launch with an ATI 3d expression running on a pentium 100 cpu and 16 megs of ram with a 1gig hard drive LOL

Yeah I remember back then how I had to convince my dad to buy a graphics card... he was so confused as to what it was.
10 years have really pasted by fast!
