Looking for MMORPGs that use only TCP ports

Mud_MonsterMud_Monster Member UncommonPosts: 229

Because of firewall, im unable to play any games that use UDP ports. Im able to use a tunneling program though to play TCP games. So looking for MMORPGs that use only TCP. Ive heard Lineage 2 is TCP and that WoW will be. Any others already out or coming out?

Your best bet is go through the most popular mmrpgs one by one, looking at their faqs and support pages. Upcoming games probably wont list which TCP/UDP ports are needed, but games already released should have that info easily available.

    --------------------

Played: Asheron's Call 1, Dark Age of Camelot, Earth & Beyond, Star Wars Galaxies
Tested: Asheron's Call 1, Asheron's Call 2, Dark Age of Camelot, Eve Online, Lineage 2, Risk Your Life, Saga of Ryzom, World of Warcraft
Uninstalled ASAP: MU Online, Knight Online, Rubies of Eventide, Priston Tales, Star Sonata, DarkSpace

Most games (if not all) will use TCP and UDP. I think you will be hard pressed to find one that is only TCP.

TCP connections remain open and can cause a much larger load on a server than UDP connections.

    Hmmm...

Shows you what I know :)

    22. Which ports must I leave open on the Firewall to play Lineage 2 ?

    Answer:
Do not block the following ports 2009, 7777, 2106
All ports use TCP as a protocol
In addition, DNS Port(TCP/UDP 53) is also required.

Don't know if the DNS port requirement will cause you problems. But probably not.

What firewall do you have that UDP cannot be used?

Its at work. I work as a 3rd shift computer operator 10pm-6am. I dont really do anything. Just gotta be there in case any errors come up. There are only a few ports open on the firewall. I couldnt even play any TCP games till i got http-tunnel. Now I can play warcraft3. But would like a MMORPG to play as well. Might just go with Lineage 2. I liked the game from what I played in the beta just lvling was so slow.

I use http-tunnel here at college myself. I"ve found that Anarchy Online and Eve Online both work with http-tunnel. Best in full screen, maybe some drops here or there.

So with WoW suppose to be TCP only as well that's three right there. Guild Wars seems to update as well through http-tunnel once you open it through sockscap. Still looking to see if any other games.

    So. Anarchy Online
    Eve Online
Guild Wars (maybe - have to wait till the preview event to see since I only tried it during the E3 on dialup and was at home)
World of Warcraft (seems like its suppose to be)
Lineage 2 is suppose to work as well, going by the post on the Http-tunnel forums.

Ive also found out that Shadowbane only uses TCP ports.

If Guild Wars does, thats great news as thats the game im most looking forward to playing. The E3 for Everyone was some of the funnest gaming ive ever experienced.

Thanks. Didn't know about Shadowbane. I was hoping it woudl but wasn't sure.

Same here. I'm looking forward to Guild Wars so I'm hoping it will work. Will know by the World Event if its open to all. I agree the E3 event was a lot of fun :).
