Really depends on the game, the only MMO that supports DX10 atm is LOTRO, and then only a handful of 1P games have it so far! Its nice and yeah it does take alot more PC resources but its worth it!
As i experienced so far, ther is no really difference between Dx10 and Dx9, maby only for the newst games only,i mean the 2009 games that didnet come out yet, For example: alanwake.
Most of the games can get the same proformence with Dx 9 like they have Dx10 with abit of tweaking a great example is Crysis. they did the ultra preformence only Dx10 But infact if you change the setting from the game files you can get the same proformence with Dx9.
So in the end i say no dont get it, Cu'z what im tallking about here are pc games :shooting, rpg, adventure, Etc............ and now think about the mmorpg...... they usally are abit slow on graphics (Flyff, wow, even pw)
and you can see that all the 2009 mmo's can run great with a good graphic card and DX9
And anyway Dx10 is vista only, and Windows XP is much better!
Basically clicking away text windows ruins every MMO, try to have fun instead of rushing things. Without story and lore all there is left is a bunch of mechanics. Reply Add Multi-Quote
There are several differences between DX9 and DX10. 1st is that DX10 uses a virtualizing program, this is not something you can do on Windows XP thust why there is no DX10 support on XP. As a result of this under Vista there is a definite performance increase between DX10 and DX9.0L(Vista's optimized version of 9.0C since 9.0C runs like shit on vista)
2nd is the additional shader support with DX10 games. However, as long as developers dual develop DX9 and DX10 games at the same time, they will not use these advanced shaders.
3rd is the iteration of DX10.1 that is even more optimized then DX10 at Anti-aliasing, and anistrophic filtering. It also allows for Real-Time Raytracing of Shadows and Self Occlusion. Needless to say it makes games look near cinematic quality. However, DX10.1 support is hindered specifically by nVidia since they still have not integrated it onto their cards. They force developers in the "nVidia the way its meant to be played" network to not support it despite all the advantages and relative ease to add a new module ontop of DX10.
On Vista, there really is not such thing as a sacrafice of performance if you hit it hard enough. On my system I am using 8GB Ram, a 1 year old Video Card, and a rescent quad core with absolutely no problems in Vista. Given the current stat of PC parts pricing, getting that much ram in particular to support Vista is cheap. Also Vista is the only real option of Windows OS to support that much ram since driver support on WindowsXP 64-bit sucks. Just remember to get Vista 64-bit.

Ah okay. I wasn't sure how many games fully supported DX10 yet, thanks for the input.
if you are interested in dx10 you can use the free trial of server 2008 to check it out.
by the look there is a huge difference..but for online games i doubt they all use it yet
