Thinking of Playing...any advice?

rozenblade1rozenblade1 Member CommonPosts: 501

I have heard good things about EVE, and it seems pretty good to me.

Does anyone have any suggestions for me to kind of push me one way or the other?

I mean some pro's and con's of the game.

I would really appreciate it, Thanks!

    Pros:

Everyone on the same server so players do get both good and bad reputations

Character skills are real time based, so you can play the game instead of grinding for levels

No endgame, there is no arbitrary level that must be reach in order to do something.

One of the toughest PVP systems to become extremely good at - tons of ships and configurations means that you can adapt your ship to most needs and you have to deal with opponents setups that can be completely off the wall.

Extremely large and complex market that fluctuates do to players actions in the game.

Everyone useful no divisions between lvls stopping friends working together.

no defined path/classes- you train what you want feel like training industrial skills up this week go ahead, Caldari ship skills next week go ahead, minmatar the next sure thing.

    Cons:

Character skills are real time based -so if you like speed grinding levels to "max" you won't find that here

No defined path - if your the type of person wanting a go here next sign you won't find one.

Not Solo friendly - sure you can do stuff on line by your self but that group of people next to you will be doing it much more effeciently

Very complex - there is a lot of information, items, ships, and game mechanics. understanding them all is not something that is easy to do quickly. Anyone that tells you they know everything about EVE is straight up lying. I've been playing for 4 years and I still learn new things, or easier ways to handle things.

Weak PVE, EVE's pve side is very simplistic, the game was not designed with PVE being a major part of the game. For the most part PVE only gets a revamp when its is needed to improve or balance the PVP side of the game.

There is a lot more on both sides. A lot of EVE's features are both pros and cons but depends on the person. The real time skilling with noSP cap is a perfect example of it. Some people just do not like not being able to grind quickly up to X lvl to be on equal footing with someone that has been playing from start. Others perfer that there is no set lvl requirement to do stuff out side of the skills needed to use the modules and the ability to switch between roles/class with just a few skills and changing out a few modules.

EVE is just one of the games that everyone must try and determine if they like it, because as will surely follow this post is numerous arguements that everything I said above is ass backwards in which case this last bit will be proven correct. EVE is what it is, Don't expect it to change to make you happy because it more and likely won't happen.

My advice is try the 14 day free trial offer.  I've tried this game twice through the free trial and myself find in mind numbingly BORING.  But hey, some people like it so try the trial and see for yourself.

You forgot one big con....  Until you have the ship and skill to hit 0 space, you spend 90% of your time travelling back and forth to places... blah...  but once you get past that.... it's all GOOD.

Also, the poster above me is clueless.

Nicoli's advice is solid, and Teran is at least right in suggesting the free trial.

EVE is definately not for everyone, but it might be for you. Give it a go, and fly safe.

HARSH death penalties, you lose your ship, and whatever you fitted on it (some fittings may survive but you have to be there to loot them)

That said, the PVP in this game is a real adrenaline rush, better than you will find in any other MMO. The first few times you enter combat with another player, pitting your ship against his, the 'battle shakes' can be so intense you'll be hooked on it for the rest of your eve career.

You'll never look back once you experience how good this game is.

If I can give you two pieces of advice: a. Get the free trail and have a look for yourself. b. Join EvE Uni as soon as possible. If fact, if you are a new player, your first stop should be the Uni. Best decision I ever made as a new player.

Decide what you want to do before you start playing

your choices include (but are not limited to)

    • Mining
    • Manufacturing
    • Research/Invention
    • Mission Running - Combat
    • Mission Running - Courier
    • Exploration (Probe based)
    • Trading (can be classed as PvP - Financial)
    • PvP - Piracy
    • PvP - Bounty Hunting (Anti-Piracy)
    • PvP - Corp/Alliance based

    Create your character accordingly.

Perception & Intelligence are 2 important attributes whichever path you decide to follow.

    Cons

    It's a hugely complex game

    It's a harsh,  brutal & unforgiving game

It does NOT hold your hand after the tutorial

    Pros

    There are NO Halflings

You can do whatever you want to do.

One real rule in EVE , if you can't afford to loose it , don't fly it !!!!!! i have lost many ships when i started out , grind for few days to get the 100mil to get me a battleship , lost it the 3 hours in .4 space was killing kill npc  and hello gank squad. was mad .. but is the nature of the game..
