What do you people think the graphics are absed on? I personally don't see much from Wow, it isn't that comic. Its more like Guild Wars or a bit Lotro.
I voted GW because i think the graphics look reminiscent of the game but i dont think that WARs visuals are "based" on GW i just think they are similar in the general style
There's a Shit option missing too. Sorry, but I generally hate this new "realistic" look many MMORPG's seem to be doing. AoC, LoTR, VG, WAR and on and on looks entirely unrealistic to me. PoTBS was bad too. The animations look out of place and the movements look like stick men.
I much prefer the cartoony look of WoW, TOR and ST Online. I can stand looking at those quite a bit longer than those realistic types.
And while I'm not at all tech savvy or know what may or may not be possible to do in an MMO, look at the way characters look and feel in many single and multiplayer shooters. BF Bad Company, Resident Evil 5, Grand Theft Auto 4 and so forth. Why can't I look like THAT if they have to go with a realistic feel.
I don't get the impression at all from Mythic that they intended any form of realism. WAR's cartoon is just a grittier and darker type of art from WoW's. Both Warhammer and Warhammer 40K are extremely cartoony. The art is extremely exaggerated.
Back in EvE. Started with BatMUD. Main MMOs have been EvE and DAoC.
neller2000 has some point. My g/f doesn't feel motivated to even play WAR compared to myself because she doesn't like the realistic look.
The design choice for WAR is not like any other MMO right now, because even GW or LotRO have a more fantasy surreal look compared to WAR. I have to admit that WAR has some awesome texture designers for character models, since it is more realistic than other MMOs right now... AoC lacks model texture detailing, but makes up for it with polygon count.
Considering the grit and brutality of WAR, it requires that sort of realism... not only because the Warhammer Universe is like that... but because I cannot get that sort of grit and brutality feel from the cartooniness of either LotRO or WoW.

Hmm. Yes, that is true. But even though Warhammer Fantasy and 40k are exaggerated on the model level, the art in the codex/armybooks are fairly realistic despite the exaggerated proportions.
neller is a known WAR hater, so I wouldn't put much stock in anything he says about it.
As for the realistic look, that's not the game that I'm playing. It has a definite fantasy feel to it. The weapons bear little resembalance to weapons used in any real war. And when was the last time you saw an infantryman (SM) running around in a dress? Nope, definitely fantasy.

I think you missed my point entirely. This isn't about whether or not I hate WAR in particular, it's about the trend in general with new MMORPG's taking the "realistic graphics" approach. War is on the mild side, granted, but still too much in my opinion.
When I say realistic, I mean in the general looks of a character in WAR or LoTR for instance compared to a character of say WoW or TOR. The first two I get somewhat the feeling I'm playing a second rate cartoons company's newest addition and in the last two I'm playing Disney's new blockbuster.
If you HAVE to go with the realistic look, then jeesh make it actually look more normal in regards to animations and general feel than the cartoony ones out there.

Maybe I did misunderstand your point. If that is the case, by Sigmar's beard, I find myself having to agree with you. Oh, horrors!
Someone else has said that he lives in a photo-realistic world, and he didn't want a photo-realistic game. I feel the same way. I like a fantasy setting, and to some degree a sci-fi setting, that will transport me away from reality for a time (it's called escapism) and distract me from the everyday cares and drama that comes standard with R/L. Now, I don't like WoW's cartoony look and this is just a personal preference. I played WoW for a year, and never could really get "into" it. My friend continued to play WoW for a couple of years after I quit and he liked the graphics. One man's trash is another man's treasure.
So, it all boils down to personal preference. Your perfect graphics style may be my least favorite style and vice-versa. I'm just happy there are enough MMOs out with different styles so that at least there is something of a choice.

I didn't say that SM's wearing a dress made the graphics look like a fantasy setting. What I was saying is that a warrior wearing a dress isn't realistic, and therefore the graphics in WAR can't be considered to be realistic.

There's a Shit option missing too. Sorry, but I generally hate this new "realistic" look many MMORPG's seem to be doing. AoC, LoTR, VG, WAR
You are wrong
Warhammer has stylized art style.
Lotro has some pseudo realistic enviroments but stylized characters.
Age of Conan has realistic art style.
From the landscapes to all characters Warhammer is stlized, from colors to proportions...
This is not a matter of opinion, there is no realism in Warhammer from an artistic point of view...just remember Im not talking about realism as the artistic movement, but as concept and style.

Ridiculous poll, didnt even voted. Its based of the tabletop game, check it out. Besides, you shouldnt even post WoW has an option since blizzard is the first to admit they took some style ideas from the warhammer tabletop game back in the days they started the whole warcraft IP like 15 years ago.
Comments
The graphics are based on the table top game. Not everything has to be designed after an already existing game . . .

/sigh
Never mind
I think the game graphics are very very good.
IMO Graphics is not whats wrong with WAR
Take the Hecatomb TCG What Is Your Doom? quiz.
I think the graphics are deliberately stylized.
It's not at all meant to be realistic, it's a slightly watered down take on the art style of games workshop.
The colour palette's a little brighter than the GW artists tend to use and the graphics are slightly cartoonier.
But realistic - not at all.
Played: WoW, Lotro, AoC, Eve, CoX.
Shortly be playing: WAR and champions if the release date holds.

This is not a matter of opinion, there is no realism in Warhammer from an artistic point of view...just remember Im not talking about realism as the artistic movement, but as concept and style.
SO I wonder what a real Ork or Goblin looks like?
Ridiculous poll, didnt even voted. Its based of the tabletop game, check it out. Besides, you shouldnt even post WoW has an option since blizzard is the first to admit they took some style ideas from the warhammer tabletop game back in the days they started the whole warcraft IP like 15 years ago.
