Don't take what I say as being official, but I don't see how they would divide this honestly. If it is 14$ here than masses from EU could just mask their IP and sign up here. I don't know what they could do about it honestly. Haven't seen any good alternatives.
Looks like some people need to be reminded that they are planning on playing the European version! Of course you'll pay in the European currency then, if it's too much, wait for the American release, which will most likely cost $14/month then.
Either way, $14 is still a lot... I wonder why they didn't go for the standard billing plan, being €12.5 (on average, if they charge in USD, it's a lot cheaper lately ).
You know it, the best way to realize your dreams is waking up and start moving, never lose hope and always keep up.

How is $14 still a lot? Most MMO subscriptions out there cost $15 a month. . .seems like you only play the cheap games.
So a handful of would-be devs shift their amateur garage-band project halfway across Europe so they can cut costs (and corners) by operating out of Greece, spend the better part of a decade plodding along making little or no progress, lying to their loyal community and constantly reinventing the scope of their project in a desperate (and futile) attempt to keep up with fast-moving changes in technological and artistic standards. Then they perform a Vanguard by trying to rush it out the door by doing the majority of the work in a single year, and their boasts grow ever greater even as the list of actual present and working features in their game becomes more and more vague. And finally their fast-talking frontman pulls a puff piece `news' interview out of his ass to try to calm his angry investors by telling them they'll make back all their costs in a year and then be on the gravy train sipping cocktails and counting their millions, even as the schill interviewer calls him the Bill Gates of Greece [cue choirs of angels singing "Hallelujah"] and a Darkfall screensaver (17 minutes of unwatchable `beta' footage) does its best to block out the news of global recession.
Keep up the good work originalegg, DarthRaiden, downtoearth, nileq, Aragon100 and the rest, you'll have us convinced this joke is worth premium sub prices any minute now! And then you'll get those 100 virgins in heaven, just like Tasos promised you.
If we compare the costs of most mmo out there I fail to see why they're charging so much... didn't they say like... a month ago that it would be LESS than other MMOs out there already?
ANOTHER lie??!?? Come on this is getting ridiculous as much as I want a sandbox pvp game I don't think this one will be what I'll be playing. As someone else said, 24$ a month for a game?!? WTF! Heck a PREMIUM game (WoW) doesn't even charge that and it's feature complete.

Meh, even if we (canadians) are billed in USD, it is going to be like warhammer --> 18 dolla or so..
Good news and i hope they make it 30 pounds , so i don't have to meet ya in game..unworthy shouldn't hold a copy .. I am happy that finally some distinctive mean is found ..even if its just money..good move from aventurine, to keep the trolls from these boards away..
Given the current lack if decent PvP MMOs I would gladly pay $ 50.00 to have a game that finally has some potential instead of the the current sugar coated waste of time PvP games where the biggest loss you suffer is the time it takes to spawn and rush back in the fight to the gazilliionth time.
Kill anyone, Full loot, Guild city crushed into burning ruins... it's time to leave the DayCare MMOs behind.
What's actually sad is that even the most stalwart supporters are starting to lose confidence.
I once knew a guy who believed in the Jan. 22 release date so adamantly that he paraded around a sig with a tombstone saying "R.I.P. Vaportrolls - Jan. 22". Well, that obviously didn't happen. He quietly removed his sig, swallowed his tears, and lurked around the board until he thought that most people forgot about the humbling he took to again re-surface. However, to the dismay of his fellow Darkfall supporters, he learned from his previous debacle and was not sporting an updated version of the banner in order to "own" the "vaportrolls". All he needed to do was open up photoshop and change that Jan. 22 to Feb. 25. It would take less than 10 seconds! I can understand him not wanting to look like a total imbecile, but how can his faith be so easily shaken? Guess the people who said that Aventurine was turning away their own supporters with their lack of professionalism was right after all.
LOL
Its odd I do remember his gravestone siggy. I remember reading it and thinking what would he do if AV did not release on the 22nd. The boards have felt a little a bit empty without his posts.
Since Darkfall is an extremely niche game, it would not surprise me at all if it costs more than comparable games; the fewer customers you have, the more you need to charge each one. Where ELSE are you going to go, fans of full loot FFA PVP? EVE? If it was what you wanted, you'd be playing it. Shadowbane? Ditto. Mortal Online? Not even close to release. Either you play Darkfall, whatever they charge, or you play nothing.
I think Aventurine is being very foolish; they're targeting a game which requires long-term commitment at the most mayfly-like segment of the audience. Further, as WAR has shown, PVP games require a dense population; combining the large area of the Darkfall world with the likely small population base means few "random encounters" with other players outside of key area, and that means those few who DO play won't get what they signed up for. The UO world was teeny-weeny, as compared to modern MMOs, and densely populated; you won't see that in DF, so those expecting a repeat of the UO playstyle are setting themselves up for serious disappointment.
If it's a Greek TV interview, it'd make sense if they were talking about the price for Europeans (or greeks specifically). To be a shaky game fresh out of extremely extended development, to having a flat euro-based price that makes it the most expensive MMO for the rest of the world that pays with USD, during a global recession?
I think it's likely, but only because after following this game since day one, nothing about what these guys do really shocks me. It would, however, be a moronic move on their part to simply go for a euor-based sub rate (granted it makes billing matters a hell of a lot simplier at the cost of money-saving potential customers).
Even 15$ is pushing it for a game like Darkfall. They need to be competitive and get more people in. Maybe start at around 10-11$ for the 1st year and slowly raise it to 12-13$ later on when they have a steady player base. Going straight for 18 bucks will make them the laughing stock of the industry (assuming they aren't already)

I meant €14. You could've guessed that, since a sentence later I did use €.
And I do only play 'cheap' games, as lotro only costs me €9 (founder's ftw!), and that is the only p2p that gets close to being worth the money lately...
You know it, the best way to realize your dreams is waking up and start moving, never lose hope and always keep up.
This is getting ridiculous....Tasos goes on Greek Television in what is an obvious attempt to not only try and reassure his investors, but to make the devs look like Greek Heroes coming down from Mt.Olympus to the people of the EU and Greece all the while announcing a relatively high subscription-fee.
AND THEN the fanboi's here try and make it look like a high subscription fee is a GOOD THING b/c, and I paraphrase: " it will keep you trollz (and everyone else) out of our gamez".
So this is a good thing huh guys? Really? REALLY? Yeah, you're going to have oh soooooo much fun running around that HUGE, empty, sandbox world looking for something to do. What a joke. Sandbox games, especially highly ambitious PvP sandbox games like Darkfall is aiming to be, need large populations to keep the game from being nothing more then a huge gankfest.....Castle and town sieges? Massive, epic-scale battles? Ship to ship combat? Not without a LARGE subscriber base guys.
But yeah, a high subscription fee that will keep 99% of the gaming, and non-gaming world away is a good thing right? Yeah.....logic ftl

Darkfall's fan base is convinced that:
a)They represent a huge, underserved segment of the market and as soon as the "stupid" game companies (which, you know, NEVER do market research to look for potential new customers) realize this, EVERY game will be a FFA fragfest.
b)They are "elite", special, the best of the best, much superior to all the "WoW babies" and "carebears".
That these two points of view are wholly contradictory is something they do not consider. Cognitive dissonance FTW!

...A big world with no one in it..Will have to wait and see if they put a IP block on the USA and wait and see if they Launch in Feb.And How long will it take them to get a US server up and running..sound like we wont be playing with our europeans friends.
Some people rob you at gun point..Others will rob you at "Ball Point Pen"
b)They are "elite", special, the best of the best, much superior to all the "WoW babies" and "carebears".
very true, we are elite, special and the best of the best
the people who excel at pvp , excel at knowing game mechanics and character control, are obviously far superior then the wow babies and carebears
just look at daoc for example, if you didn't have a clue, you sucked
point n case, for years until its pop got so bad that they gave all sorts of new ways to get RPs the average player never even got to rr 5 , where as a good player could obtain that in a week or two
also the ability to jump on any class, and make it work without ever playing it before
i remember jumping from a tank to a healer (guild member wasn't on) never played before, and running our group threw the night with on point mezzes and about 130k in rps in just a few hours , we deserve a legit game that isn't dumbed down for the current crap mmo market... i have no clue if this will be it, but we need it soon, our generation is dwindling from bordem
Dork alert. Hate to break it to you but video games arnt hard. And I doubt getting 130k rps will make your iq go up or women to leave there carebear husbands to jump on your epeen.
Your on the same level as someone who played pac-man for 8 hours a day to get the high score.
I'm far from a dork, I'm engaged, gaming is a hobby.. not my life, and video games must be hard, becuase there are so many awful players.
Imo, awful players see awful players everywhere. Good players see good players. A good player calling someone else bad make me think he is not that good. A player that help someone else is a good player... I could go on here..
There are lots of ways of telling if someone is a good player or not. Stroking your ego make you an average one. (You are in the biggest group tho, nothing to be shame of)

LMFAO!!! these guys have huge balls if they are gonna try to sell this piece of shit for $18 a month.

WRONG.
It will keep EVERYONE away.
I've played the game and I'll tell ya right now there's no way on gods green earth that I would pay even $12 a month for what i've seen.
I wouldn't even last playing it for free
Lol, you played the game, huh? Send me some screens of you in game so that I can believe you got in Darkfall beta. Because I just smell bullshit.

I watched the leaked beta videos, i honestly cannot believe that anyone will p2p this game let alone pay for it.
What has happened to the gaming industry?, they are making totaly crap games and trying to charge people to play them !.
I cannot believe that i play years old games because the latest so called mmorpg are totally rubbish.
