If you could choose what IP Blizzard uses for their next MMO what would it be?

SlaynnSlaynn Member UncommonPosts: 109

I'm curious to know which IP's you think Blizzard could run with?  Which would be epic fail?

I'd like to ask that people not steal my oxygen by exerting themselves and typing dumbass stuff about how Blizzard sucks and they stole your Huffy when you were four but I know better.  It's bound to happen.

It's gotten to the point where some MMOs have been reduced to little more than success dispensers. Don't think. Don't challenge yourself. Do as little as possible... but still be rewarded for it. Yeah.. *that's* fun.

Starcraft or a Fallout-like wastelands MMO.

I'd like to see a brand new universe -- doesnt matter what it is

with no relation to lore in existing IPs

I agree, IP's seem too limiting.

They've stated many times It's a brand new IP. They don't want to cover old ground. So could be anything.

Whatever it is, it'll be completely different to WoW. They have enough business sense not to confuse their market.

Great, so what general genre would you want them to do?

If Blizzard were intending on making a more open, sandbox-style MMO then the three IP's that I'd love to see are Firefly, Bladerunner and Fallout.

But if they were doing another theme-park then I'd love a survival/horror MMO like Resident Evil or even Quake.

I think Bizzard is going to raise the bar.  Everyone with gaming history in the MMORPG market have been compaining about how easy and "carebear" WoW is, but like it or not it's a runaway success commercially.  I think more people will trust Bilzzard to put out a great game.

The logical next step is the give people an increase in difficulty, more of a challenge, and more risk.  Blizzard brought droves of people into the MMORPG market.  WoW brought people who into this genre who didn't even play video games before.  It took something relatively assessible to pull those people in. I've played with people who were 10 or 12 all the way up to 62 .  No matter what one think of the game, that has to be applauded in my book.  Now since these people are interested I think WoW will deliever the next level.  It might not be the most hardcore, difficult, high risk, overwhelming death penality game that some of the gamers on this site are looking for, but i bet it will most definitely be next level.

The developers of Blizzard raises the bar almost every single time they come out with a game.  Plenty of people may be complaining about WoW right now, but it's almost 5 years old with 11 million subscriptions.  I too have quit playing WoW after a couple of years. I know that when Blizzard drops their next MMO, I will be one of the first checking it out.

To answer the question though...hmm.  You know... I don't know.  I'm loving the Fallout  universe right now.  Maybe the Transformers IP.  I don't know how Bizzard would pull that off..but most of everything has been done copied and over and over.  That would be interesting.

no they havent -- here's an article from Blizzcon last year

    www.shacknews.com/onearticle.x/55383

Little more is known about the unannounced MMO--during another BlizzCon interview,

Morhaime refused to confirm if it is set in a new universe

--though the studio has hinted that that the project could end up on consoles in addition to PC.

got a link for *one* of those times that someone at Blizzard specifically said it was a new IP ?

only thing Ive seen linked in past said "according to Blizzard"

with nothing to back it up on who said it and where

Honestly ... I don't know. I'd like a Sci-Fi game, but they've already delved into that with Starcraft. With fantasy, sci-fi and horror covered I could see them going the way of Rockstar games and making something gritty, realistic and set in a modern era. It might have certain steampunk/cyberpunk elements, too. I honestly don't know whether that'd be my thing, as I love me some high fantasy, but I'd definitely give it a try.

    something sci-fi preferably

    MMO wish list:

    -Changeable worlds
    -Solid non level based game
-Sharks with lasers attached to their heads

First i want those bastards to give me my Huffy back.

After that make a game like ShadowRun.

    Sci-Fi

Dune by Frank Herbert.  Lots of backstory, different factions, spice, ...

    Fantasy

Wheel of Time series by Robert Jordan.  All the normal fantasy stuff is there with trollocks, aes sedai, aiel, ..

    FPS

Not sure what IP I'd want for this but I would dearly love for someone to try something new.

    Misc.

The Godfather.  This would probably lead to some sort of GTA MMO but that's fine.

The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.  Any western really but if you're going to pick one might as well pick a good one.

Of course only if they do it well and not wreck the IP.  Something that is clearly very difficult to do.

I support Belgiums efforts to get noticed ... at all.

I'm a cyberpunk fan.  That would be pretty fun and hasn't been done yet.  At least not in a completely sucky way.

A sandbox MMORPG styled after Bladerunner, now your talking.

I have often wondered why the Cyberpunk IP has never been made into a video game of any kind?

I'd like a MMO loosely based on "The Island of Dr. Moreau."

  • DraklonDraklon Member UncommonPosts: 218

There's already plenty level-based fantasy MMO's out there so maybe a skill-based sci-fi or horror game would be nice. Preferrably with housing and crafting. And collision detection.

Weird, this site said it will be a new ip mmo www.mmo-champion.com/index.php

Whatever it is i hope they come up with something that none of us can ever think of in terms of gameplay, and do away with the stupid end-game thing..

That said i still hope its fantasy, say, Dragon Lance Chronicles!!!

    Ive seen that

this was also said earlier last summer by Paul Sams on 7/1/2008

    www.wowinsider.com/2008/07/03/world-of-starcraft-could-still-be-the-next-gen-mmo/

Blizzard's Chief Operating Officer, has an interview with Gamasutra that indicates no new IPs are coming soon.

    www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php

Blizzard has very strong IP, but it also seems like all of it was created in the last century.

Sams: First of all, that’s true that we’ve not introduced any new franchises this century. I think what it really comes down to is, we ask the teams what they want to make next.

I think the folks at our company are concerned, if they’re going to do a new franchise, that it be worthy – and that it be something that is equivalent or better than what we’ve done before, because they don’t want to do a franchise that’s not.

These are three of the best-selling franchises of all time, and very well-loved. So you’ve got a pretty high bar of trying to figure out what those franchises might be.

What I will say, though, is that the idea of a new franchise is very intriguing to employees of the company.

Are we ever going to release a new one? I would absolutely say we will at some point. I just don’t know when that day will be quite yet.

Considering they have Kaplan moving to their new MMO, I've lost interest in Blizzard's upcoming game, but, I would like to see a Vampire:  The Masquerade vs.  White Wolf's Werewolf  MMO put out by someone whose interested in making a game, not a raidfest.

With PvE raiding, it has never been a question of being "good enough". I play games to have fun, not to be a simpering toady sitting through hour after hour of mind numbing boredom and fawning over a guild master in the hopes that he will condescend to reward me with shiny bits of loot. But in games where those people get the highest progression, anyone who doesn't do that will just be a moving target for them and I'll be damned if I'm going to pay money for the privilege. - Neanderthal
