Lack of Intellect in the Community?

JK-KanosiJK-Kanosi Member Posts: 1,357

I'm a big fan of sandbox games, because they allow players to customize a character any way you want and allow you to build player ran cities and etc. I like the politics that go into building an empire, and the PvP that happens because of it. I was hyped up about The Chronicle when it was announced and then Darkfall after TC was canceled.

I keep hearing DF's forum community talk about DF like all the game offers is FFA PvP, when the game offers so much more. Part of playing a MMORPG for me is the community. If the community sucks, then the gameplay won't be enough to keep me around. The shortsightedness of the community is the biggest thing driving me away from this game.

How come when the forum community mentions DF, they think of endless bashing of skulls? Does the community not have the intellect to realize they could do something much more in the game, such as creating a new Rome (example). Wouldn't it be much more entertaining and give the game more longevity to build a kingdom, that then turns into an empire as you conqueror other kingdoms, establish trade routes between kingdoms; provide patrols to guard the player caravans transporting crafted goods from one city to the next? Imagine the battles and war that breaks out conquering the world to build your empire. It's a lot more exciting than thinking: "I'm going to log in and gank me some noobs!"

I hope the community matures and word gets out about the community maturing in DF, because I'd love to play it, but I'm too old to be player with a bunch of childish people that trash talk each other and have nothing better to do in-game than gank each other, especially when there's so much more that can be done in-game if people would show a bit of intelligence.

MMORPG's w/ Max level characters: DAoC, SWG, & WoW

I fear a lot of the fans (read as fan boys) of this game think the game is centered entirely around PvP. I, like you, see Darkfall as much more than just a simple (yes I say simple because PvP is simple) PvP free-for-all. I am already getting the feeling that you'll have these elitist PvP/PKers treating the game like a WoW BG. I honestly don't mind PvP and am good at it without much effort but from my experience of many online games most PvP types are well complete morons.

It is ignorance that may be DF's downfall, though I hope the good players who respect that the game is more than a battle ground will outnumber the dumbasses.

The game is new and people are excited about combat. Relax, seriously.

The thing is that as it is right now, "bashing skulls" pretty much sums it up.

-There is no building a new Rome in this game. There is only a certain amount of space on the map for cities and the building placement is pre-determined. There is no player housing either.

-There are no trade routes. Universal banking takes care of that.

-No piracy and no raiding of caravans. See universal banking.

-Crafting is pointless because it's too time consuming and mobs drop similar items much quicker.

-There really is no exploration as the world map is barren. Yes, there are structures and ruins and stuff but they are empty for the most part. Some may have goblin scouts or skeletons though.

-You cannot be a thief!!! <------- game breaker for me. I loved being a thief in UO and how the hell can you have a sandbox MMO with FFA loot and not allow players to be thieves?

The whole game is basically a grind filled with naked people attempting to gank you. Unless you get lucky and join a large guild which can get enough resources to build a city. Then you and your friends can take part in sieges. I think that about sums it up.

Are you lost? Or drunk? This is the MMORPG Darkfall forums. People do many things here, relaxing is not one of them. Now go get some nerd rage, pick a side and join the war.

Unfortunately this is the type of community that usually follows full-pvp-type games.  You learn to zone-it-out after a while.  It can be argued that this is also one of the reasons ruleset pvp games or pve-centric games have lasted longer in the marketplace.

You say 'much more that can be done,' but there really isn't from my DF experience.  The crafting system is more tedious than in EQ 1, a game that is 10-years-old.  That's about all the alternatives.  So gather resources or grind combat.  Have fun.

You guys are completely trashing a game that isn't even launched yet.  Who is to say that everythign won't be put in at some point?  If you don't want to play it at all then why watch the forums?  If your thinking about it, then read some reviews and watch some videos.  If you like it then fucking preorder....

    isn't it that simple?

I just don't get why everyone wants to bash this game and its lack of content when most other mainstream MMO's weren't feature complete on release either......

What about putting something into the game before release? Can we say empty? I say the lack of common sense or desperation for a new mmo is reason behind the beer goggles.

Truthfully, I think the biggest reason so many people rush to this forum to bash this game is the vitrol that the fans of this game unleash on anyone who so much as looks crossways at it. Its not even the astounding speed that really makes the trolling fun for most, its how much hate you guys can bring to bear. Defending the game would stop being amusing for most trolls, but you guys bring the cursing and the personal attacks everytime. Its like a invitation to the trolls to keep feeding.

You say empty, but I guess no one seems to remember that it is PvP oriented.  Once everyone is able to play won't there be more people?  There isn't supposed to be millions of NPC's.....

You may be right tho.  Either way 50$ isn't a lot honestly.  If people can't afford the risk then just wait.  No need for hundreds of threads saying why it is fail.....

Dude, the game is coming out in less than a week. I highly doubt that Aventurine has a magic patch because there is no magic patch. Never was and never will be.

Who knows, maybe they will fix their game a few months down the line but will it truly matter? Look at AoC. It's in a much better state now than when it was released but they are still struggling for subscriptions.

Aventurine ran this game into the ground. Such potential lost to amateurs. Sure the FFA combat and full loot are fun the first few times around but after a month of play one realizes that if I want a fun FPS experience, I can just play Team Fortress 2.

Oh well, maybe Mortal Online or Earthrise will come through.

Yea I agree MO is looking to be pretty good.  I hope they stick to their words.  I wanted to play DF for awhile so I will try to regardless of the reviews and what people say.  If it sucks, it sucks.  It won't exactly drain me though.  I just hope they can fix it in a timely manner.  I do agree there are several areas that need to be addressed.

Hmm, I admit that I haven't read every bit of information leaked about this game, I just haven't cared enough to do so when there are other things to do in life. Darkfall just had a long list of features I look for in a MMORPG, so naturally, I am/was really interested in the game. But when I come to the forums to find more information, I see a community I want no part of. I had no idea that DF wasn't feature complete or that features that are in-game, other than combat/PvP, isn't worth doing right now.

As another person said, if I wanted to just PvP the entire time I'd just play a FPS . I play MMO's to build and be apart of a community. As I said, I'm too old to hang around a bunch of teenagers who have nothing better to do, or don't WANT to do anything better, than to PvP the entire time.
