There will be multiple duo combo's that will work great , and maybe others will post there favorites and why but here is mine:
Monk-Warden: Monk does great damage, can take some hits, gets group Feign Death and group FD, has a heal (albeit on a timer), and can be a little cheaper to operate than a plate or chain class. Warden brings some pretty good heals via heal over time, nice buffs including thorn shield, will always have a porter with you, AA Sow is fast, and gets evac towards the mid levels.
I think it depends on what you are willing to fight. If the two of you are going to mainly stick to single mobs,i would say w/o a doubt 2xwizard.With the massive damage and 2x ability to root, you would handle anything.
The other option i guess would be a clas that uses a pet ,like the Necro. This allows you more options, than just outright nuking.Still i would want the wizard for the massive damage, with no healer, you need to kill rather fast.IN saying that the cleric/Inquisitor can wear heavy armour,so allows for healing, and take some heavy damage and can also throw in some nukes as well.It all depends on what you are fighting,a single mob will have no chance agaisnt 2x wizard, they will most likely not even take a hit.
Grouped mobs almost never work in a duo setup, the damage is too fast and if using a healer, then your damage is much too slow,so really you should be looking for a duo setup against single mobs. However 2x wizard could get in some early 2x AOE damage,2xroot and have a legit chance at a 3xmob.
Never forget 3 mile Island and never trust a government official or company spokesman.

I'll agree with Monk/Warden. Very fine choices.
Another plus point is that neither of them are expensive to run, so to speak.

How much tougher is a Monk/Brawler from a scout, armor /dmg mitigation wise? What is the DPS difference to replace Brawler with Dirge or something?
It might pay to remember that there is going to be a new update concerning the way aggro is handled, sometime soon.
While it might not make much difference now concerning a duo choice, it might well be important down the road. Check out the official forums for more.
me and my wife are playing a zerker/fury duo. this combo kicks butt.
My girlfriend and I are doing a Pally/Swashy combo, loads of fun so far.
