Yeah me too... I think its the best game to make a name of yourself but i need to warn you it takes a LOT of time... ive played a lot of other games but i think EVE-Online is the best one
Let us know if you find one:) most games i know push for team play -soloing really doesn't give much chance to stay at the top. As for crafting, i guess complex one takes too much work for devs to implement?
it could be that most games are just reward orientated
i.e. play our new content and you'll get this uber weapon etc
Vanguard is an SOE product and EvE supports RMT by allowing players to buy and trade game time cards for ingame coin which is the equivalent of a microtransaction cash shop.
i would suggest trying the free trial of eve as it seems to have alot of depth if u can get into it(I couldn't)
there's always anarchy online other than that i think you are going to have to wait a bit for darkfalls full release also games like earthrise
if you find anything good other than any of these please let us know

I thought the player base in Vanguard was close to non-existant? I hate joining a game fresh only to find the game on it's last legs.
