Questions about the Core of the Corp (see what i did there)

Blackwell99Blackwell99 Member Posts: 352

Hey guys

Im a fairly new player and have a some questions about corps:

1 When should i seek one out (skill point wise)- EG  2 million SP is a good time to look

2 Whats the best way to find a corp-word of mouth? In game?

3 I heard of a fleet corp, what is that, what other kind of corps are there?

4 Are there certain occupations that are more in demand by high quality corps than others?

5 What is the best way to find a corp in my timezone (est)--Is there a good directory.

6 If  Im a new player will i be seen as a liability?

7 If im on a trail or buddy pass, will that affect me?

Thanks

Join EVE University. You'll get help, you'll meet people. And maybe later the same people knows you and you'll end u in a good corp.

Or, what the heck, maybe you start up one of your own.

I'm so broke. I can't even pay attention.

Find a corp as soon as possible, its the best place to ask questions/get support.  It will also show you early on what type of playstyle you are most interested in...
2 Whats the best way to find a corp-word of mouth? In game?
You can look online, on the EVE-O recruitment forums or the Recruitment Channel.  Personally, my experiences with the recruitment channel have been mostly negative.  You want to get in with people who know the game, that type of person does not typically hang out in the recruitment channel.  Watch out for leeches who will recruit you and be your best friend, as long as you're selling them your mining operation minerals at market cost -10%.  Some corps, while seeming friendly and legit are really means of lining the CEO's pockets.
3 I heard of a fleet corp, what is that, what other kind of corps are there?
There are fleet corps which usually hang out in 0.0 and use the tactic known as "blobbing" where you have 50-200 people in battleships who will enter into laggy fights where they pound other blobs.  Typically you'll have your fleet commander (FC) calling primary and secondary targets.  Smaller gangs are known as skirmish fleets, where your main strength is the diversity of your ships firepower and tactics.  You also have "indy" or industrial corps, where people are most concerned with mining, producing goods and trading items.  Indy corps typically get war declared on them, at which point they cannot continue their normal operations, instead they dock up and stay in station for the duration of the war.  Read into my bias though, obviously I prefer a corp that does a little bit of everything.
4 Are there certain occupations that are more in demand by high quality corps than others?
Not really,  corps will recruit people they think will be a good fit.  You aren't locked into any profession, you can always specialize, respecialize and train for any number of professions.
5 What is the best way to find a corp in my timezone (est)--Is there a good directory.
    Not sure...
6 If  Im a new player will i be seen as a liability?
Could be, younger corps get really paranoid about spies if they aren't used to being war-dec'ed.  Don't let it get to you, but don't make jokes about being a spy either.  put your time in and you'll get your trust, if you don't get respect, move on...
7 If im on a trail or buddy pass, will that affect me?/
Some skills cannot be trained on trial accounts.  Focus on getting yourself skilled up to be useful in a few things, enough that you can have fun playing the game.  Then when you subscribe, you'll have a good base to build on.  REMEMBER, If you aren't having fun playing the game the way you're playing it, you need to move on and try something else.  Don't be bored, Eve is pretty much the most exciting game out there when you find what you like to do...
