Don't waste time on this game

Lately I've been trying out a few f2p games and p2p trials, hoping to find some new good game to play. And tonight I tried PT2, and played it to lvl 10. This game is currently in open beta. My search for a new game doesn't end here, this game isn't worth bothering with, here are the reasons why:

Most dumbed down combat I've ever seen in any MMO, i believe. Except from autoattack, my diciple (pre-class for magician or conjurer) started with one spell, and got only one more the next 10 lvls. And no buffs at all.

Progress up to lvl 10 is all about lvls, and during these lvls, the game offers nothing else. When you lvl, your stats doesn't seem to increase much (except mp/hp), mobs are almost just as dangerous as when you were one lvl lower. My main spell does an average of one more dmg per lvl, except the one lvl where it's upgraded. When you get +25 hp, +15 mp, and a spell dmg increase from 25 to 26, the new lvl doesn't mean much at all.

You can't do much except grind and quest before lvl 10. No customisation, no crafting, can't make your own guild (clan), etc.

Items. Don't expect to get much improvement in gear from lvl 1 to 10. Almost nothing from quest rewards, and at lvl 10, you'll probably afford max 3 equips from vendors, as long as they're max lvl 3. I'm not kidding. And since crafting is from lvl 10+, after doing several quests, making your own low lvl gear is out of the question.

You MUST quest. Grinding alone is not an option, for 2 reasons: it's too slow, and you need the fame points you get from questing. Without it, lots of contents (ie both crafting and quests related to crafting) will not be available to you.

No auction house. Instead player shops standing around. Dozens, maybe hundreds in the starting area, blocking view to questgivers etc. You can make them invisible via options, but their infoboxes won't disappear, therefore the problem remains. Horrible both because they're flooding the area, and because you have to look around everwhere to find something of use.

Lowest quest item drop rates I've ever seen in any MMO, in low lvl areas. It took AT LEAST 70 kills to get 10 quest items at lvl 4-6 (crystal guardians, or whatever). What's worse, is that if I got those items quicker, I would probably have ran out of quests.

Horrible translations. Full of misspellings, poor grammar, meaningless sentenses, and several other issues. I suspect they used some online translator, yeah it's that bad. Sometimes completely idiotic info, an example from the hints on top of the screen: "cannot trade untradeable items". We all know what "untradeable" means....

The above issue also completely ruins the already poor attempt of adding lore to the game.

Quest info = no info, very often. What I mean is, no inidcation of where to find mobs/npc. For example: several "talk to <name>..." quests, nothing about where, can be near or quite far away.

No indication of quests for higher lvls. Which means you have to look around every time you lvl, to check if something new appears.

Almost no settings to improve the looks of stuff. Shadows, brightness, and 2-3 minor other options - that's it.

Making a new clan (guild) is impossible for new players at lvl 10, which is the lvl requirement. The price is 100,000 eons (currency in this game). I had 10,500 when I dinged lvl 10, and I spent nothing on unnecessary stuff. Earning money on ie crafting early, is impossible, since that too have a lvl 10 requirement, as said earlier.

And the absolutely worst, imo:

After lvl 10, you lose 10% exp each time you die. Yes, TEN %. Even if all the other issues were fixed, this would still ruin the game for me.

My advice:

Avoid it, at least until they fix the game. It's open beta, but it reminds me more of an alpha.

EDIT:

I forgot this: you lose "only" 9% xp when you die, if you choose to resurrect in the city instead of where you died.

I've been playing Pt2 since it got in open beta stage. Have 1 high lvl char of lvl40+ and 2 more at around 30.

    Regarding Netspook's comments about pt2.

How can u get such an opinion about not nice game when you have just reached lvl 10? The lvl cap is 100 when fully released and currently at 60 i think. You got yourself just at lvl10 and you expected to have all features enabled? Which game is open at lvl10? What would they give you when you get higher level?

As for economy are u using shops? if so u could have at most lvl 15 money for making a clan. That's when we created a clan with my friend. And to create a clan you can ask fellow mates that will get into clan a small contribution if u want that much to form a clan.

Auction house is a nice feature in mmos these days but I also like very much the look and feel of visiting individual shops and buying from there. Auction house should be implemented in game imho though.

Errors in text are part of the translation which should get fixed by release date.

As for grinding most mmorpgs are grinding right? And what would be the reason for killing monsters if u didn't have to grind?

Death has a penalty; that is bad? Do you want to play a safe game, go play somewhere else. I like having to be very careful not to die. Unfortunately (!!!) when u get pked and killed you don't lose any xp (in contrast with L2). A little safe there for noobs.

As for settings its open beta, they might implement more in control panel for users, but if you know how to edit a simple text file (ini) there is a tutorial in pt2 forums on how to tweak your engine.

In my opinion it's a nice game till u get 40. Then there is a lack of content but we all expect changes in future updates (still open beta right???)

You could give it another try to see how things are in later parts of the game.

Serious, you guys could skip this crap and look for other games

Did gave the game a chance and spend 3 hours to download it however, the update on patches failed (Access Denied) and waited 1 week for technical support to reply me "Your country IP has been block due to license issue"

    That's all.

Because if a game doesn't grab you by the nuts and squeeze within the early levels, then it is more than likely that you,  the new player, will un-install and move on.  This game doesn't seem to be able to do that......yet.

I'm really not getting this you guys. You are all saying that this game isn't even worth playing, except for oscisc. And fot the IP problem it's said that some IPs don't work, as for now it's an Europe only game.

Then there is the problem with the quests not being clear and stuff, well at this moment all the quests are crystal clear and you know where to go , what creature to kill and so on....

And if you want a game to be open from the start, go play a FPS not an MMORPG. Because you want to dicover the things you are able to do along the way, at least that's what I've been understanding about MMORPG players. Grinding is a big part of any game too, look at WoW you got a one hell of an amount of quests, eprsonally I think it has to many at some times, but with PT2 I'm just feeling the storyline being built. Probably because I played PT1 too, and I think they changed allot about it, not that it is a bad thing, because they made some changes about it which improved it allot. Like the fact that you can specify your class at lvl 10 , 30 and 50. Unlike PT1 where you chose an atlanta and you would become an amazon.

ohh yeah and with the stats, you don't have have stat points, but at least you know that if you have a knight same lvl in-front of you it's not his stat distribution that made him a winner, it will probabley be his equipement or his tactic in the use of his skills. ( a bit similar to guild wars, not completely but you get the point).

For the skills, You don't have that many skills in the beginning, but these skills get +1 attack or buff every level you go up, and when you lvl-up the skill itself it usually gets 10 to 30, I've even had 50 damage more. And you might say that it isn't much, but you feel it when you get 1 more damage to yout attacks and 1 more defense.  What Ithink is a cool thing is that , for example for a quest I need to kill 9 Giant Rabies (creatures lvl 10 ~11) and I was lvl 9 at the time, hwen I tried it at lvl 9 I had to rest verytime I beat 1 of them, so I thiught I'll just try to grind a little before going there. So I did some other quest and I got up to lvl 11. At this time I stared doing the quest, and I noticed that I was not having any trouble at all, I was able to beat at least 4 Giant Rabies without having to rest.

So I guess that the thing is that at this moment in time they have improved on allot of the things you guys think are rubbish in this game..

    Good gaming to you guys
