Thread of the Month

Here's an interesting thread from AoC's forums. It goes to show you that the controversy is not held only within these walls.

Read the whole thread:forums.ageofconan.com/showthread.php

But i think the most intelligent response to the OP is:forums.ageofconan.com/showpost.php

Notice the difference in maturity between the post versus the fans. I'm sure he will be flamed to holy hell for giving an honest answer--but what does that tell you?

Discuss the post and thread and what do you think of the responses?

Someone in that first thread said the following, and i fully agree with it:

"If you waste a couple months putting effort into a game that is doomed (ala Auto Assault or TR) then it is no different than had you placed the time/effort elsewhere. At some point an 8-yr EQ vet is going to give up or have the game shut down from under him. Don't get attached... "

    You know,

I read that post and maybe it's just me, but I have to admit that a lot of the people who post for "pro" AoC,  just don't seem as on the ball as the people who are against AoC. I was looking at a profile of one of the chaps who post here, and he's a Lawyer..and he doesn't seem to fond of the game.

I think certain games just attract certain people. Yesterday we were talking about EvE in a different post. That's a game that seems to attract mostly adults. The children and young teens get weeded right out.

I mean im sure that there may be some intelligent people who defend AoC and FC, but I've got to tell you that it seems they are few and far between (imo) especially when you read some of those posts to the response to the OP's question--it's like yikes!!

Wow, that was a good one. I wonder how many people you manage to piss off.

    I couldn't agree more.

It seems to me that many people who are diehard AoC fans, are.. well.. dumb. I'm not saying everyone is but there are some really dumb AoC fans out there (and here). You really cannot reason with those people and they seem very immature.

I think it's because AoC attracts that kind of crowd. Eve is an example of true mature MMO. AoC is not mature. Aoc has fatalities and digital boobs which both attract the worst kind of people. People who lack the intelligence to see past pretty images.

"OMG, look at those trees!! Wow, look at that rock!! Cool, boobies!!!"

Most intelligent MMO veterans need more than that.

Well I am the total opposite because to me this is the dumbest thing I've read all week. You make it sound like everyone walks around in game with no shirt on to see boobs. I have never grouped with dumb people in this game as most were adults and played maturely. What you read in global chat is a few idiots nightly that think they are doing the world a favor by chatting about stupid crap.

It may attract a different crowd, but it sure isn't as immature as some of you negative posters make it out to be. I wouldn't play it if it was.

    Your reply just reeks of

Well I guess I will jump in the fire and stick up for the 'die hard' fans here. For me, I love reading posts like that because it's a new player experience. What posts like these shows us is that Age of Conan is exciting and maybe at a better place than what it was from launch compared to some of the feedback given from forums such as these. Granted, you can argue that new players are clueless on the issues brought up before they even came to the game but I think that is totally void in this case because it's new player experience versus old player experience.

This really falls on what you want to hear. If you're set on issues before hand being raised all the time and not forgotten then you for sure can see how such posts are not realistic and flame them. Both the die hard player and whatever you would call the guy on the opposite end can suffer from this. I personally see a problem when either side decides posts are not worthy just because someone feels it's not the RIGHT message because really, what is the right message (or post)?

I think many forget that this is a community of people with different opinions. There really is no right or wrong here and no one player is above another within the community (i.e.: my thread is better because I speak teh truth). Although some might think they know what the REAL issues are or what ALL the players want, it's really up to us (Funcom) to help ensure we see everything beyond with the norm can see.

Either way I'm babbling here and I think both of the threads were good and no one is shall you say 'dumb' or whatever harsh word you can toss in there simply because one side is happy and the other side is constructively negative (best negativity is constructive negativity and this is a fine example).

So only intelligent people are against AoC and all the fanbois are too dumb yes?

    Exhibit A......

"I should point out that the adult nature of the game is rather difficult to come to terms with.

For example, the total and uncensored anal penetration of Conan while he is being held down by Funcom executives and they just start jamming them "selves" into his anal cavity by absolutely raping REH's successfully book series. It's rather hard to watch.

....and they say there's no real adullt content in AoC."

A post by you on another thread in the AoC forums,I dont see the intelligence flowing here....do you?

So an adult post or a weeded out child's post? As they say in the trade......I believe the child's/young teens word is pwned or owned.

And just because someone puts their job as a lawyer doesnt mean that MMORPG staff visit them in their workplace to confirm it

    Yikes indeed !!!!!

Gaming since 1985 and still going strong.

Very curious why 'Fans' who reply to anyone critical of  the game or the company  with such gems as "Who's paying you to write this garbage?" or more often pure acid and flames aren't moderated / punished?

Seems like Fans get a pass on bad behavior while critics get their threads locked because of the flames fired at them. Why aren't Mods cleaning up the flame / non-constructive posts and getting critical threads back on topic? You keep saying you want feedback, closing threads isn't how you get it.

LOL you mean  like the guy who responded three times on the first page and was nice enough to use the term "retard" to describe people who had a particular opinion?

Oh God dont get me started on the volunteer mods. They were actually what drove me away in the end as I was trying to decided what to do with my account. I figured if a company like FC had to use volunteer mods and let them run the asylum however they wanted ( Lufkin comes to mind) then they really didnt need any more of my money.

A useful and informative thread showing the attitudes of a broad and accurate representation of the playerbase. This proves that people who dislike AoC are more intelligent and mature than people who like it. Thanks for posting!!!
