Was there ever a reason given why Europe got a RP-PvE server and NA didn't?

If I remember correctly they made a poll in closed beta and asked if players in NA cared for a RP-PvE server, and those people voted no. Or something along that vein, they asked and players didn't want it. I wasn't in closed beta so I can't verify but that's what I was told when a bunch of us were asking for such a server in open beta.....

I didn't remember seeing a big demand for the culture server in the prerelease forums or even a poll about it. I don't remember any official poll that even gave RP-PvE as an option for a server type.
They said that you couldn't have RP without PvP. While I disagree, I could respect that position, and then they quietly give one to EU after the US EA servers launch. Then they open 5 (?) US servers for commercial launch and still didn't see fit to give their NA customers the same server option and never explained the reason.

I admit, I was one of the RP=PvP people... Role playing IRL mean pretending, if RP in and RPG means pretending to be able to do things with your pretend character that he cannot do because of the game itself... well thats just retarded.

It wasn't a big deal for me personally, but it was baffling why they would make one for Euros and not for NA. Also the way FC handled it was some pisspoor customer relations.
I believe we wanted to see the progression on both styles based on the feedback we had received from the players within each region. More players on the US side wanted a RP-PVP server where EU side wanted a RP-PVE server. We tossed them both up based on feedback and they both seemed to be happy with each thus not seeing the need to really do more than that for both.
There was some concern on the US community about not having one and wanting one for the future. It was highly possible that we would do so but we also had a lot of feedback suggesting the RP-PVP was good enough. Then to toss the mix up more, players were suggesting at the time that we focus more on merging servers than anything else.
It's one of those complicated choices I fear and I think it turned out fine.

Yeah I assume you are the same Sturmrabe from the official forums and I remember mostly you and another guy who's name escapes me but I'd remember if I saw it again when looking at the RP server debates. I was Darcon on the official forums.
I have the same disdain for the emote fighting, vampire prince, Mary Sue emo RPers you do. I like RP servers for the generally more mature crowd and the lack of leet speak and retarded names. I stay in character but don't actively seek out RP but will engage in it if others initiate. I don't like FFA in factionless games because I find mindless killing and rez pad camping as immersive as we both find level 5 characters RPing great warriors.
No RP-PvE wasn't a dealbreaker for me, otherwise I wouldn't have bought the game. If Funcom had stuck to their guns and not gave EU a RP-PvE server, it wouldn't have been a big deal to me. I just don't like being treated like a less valued customer because of where I live.

You mean months before the clamoring for a hardcore pvp server with one death and your deleted? As well the same for only having pvp servers and no pve servers ever? I see Sturm here, he can more than likely better explain the feedback from a player standpoint pre and post launch on server types.

And personally i cannot stand factional games at all... i HATE being on the "same side" as random dumbasses from the internet...
Nothing I like more in Shadowbane than finding out there is a retard in the PUG, being able to turn, face him, and kill him, WHILE STILL IN GROUP, [though, that doesn't work so well for Druids]...
