You know, I enjoy killing the French!

Silly as the title is, the sentiment is true. Having PvP a true worldwide server is very enjoyable. I like seeing  french and other languages spamming the chat channels. I feel that this is where MMOs should have gone, yet most always regionalize and not allow for much interaction between both sides of the world. I understand the reasons for this, but having an international server option I think will be welcomed by a substantial portion of the playerbase. And hey, the pings are not that bad.

I know that Darkfall plans to make a north american server eventually and offer character transfers to it.

Will you transfer? Or stay on in the EU?

     Transfer.

It'll be interesting though, will any of the big name clans with cities already built up be willing to transfer and lose their aquisitions?

Question?  Don't the French avatars in DF generally surrender or run away from a fight?

It is a debate my guild is having internally.   Our initial plan was to transfer, but I think we have to wait and see the details of the transfer system before we decide.  I agree with you, that it is fun to play with people from Europe for a change after being given different servers in the last few MMOs.   When I had a vent meeting with the leaders of other guilds who wanted to ally with us, 1 or 2 of them had thick English accents.  As far as killing the French....C'est la vie! :)

in the old days, teh internetz was the way for all people around the world to meet (and kill) each other...

now, with the regionalization crap we are back in our litle corporate boxes we're supposed to stick into.

as for wimpy euros.... dunno bout french but try to survive against a russian corp in EVE. you'll quickly realize that you do have a RL after all...

as a euroguy i'd love to play with/against french guys/gals but they do live in their box. i promise i'll learn french (cause it is a beautiful language) if they do come out of their pantry.

Russians are kickass, I'm sorry. Ever seen Spetsnaz training? Germans too. Brits? Meh. French? Point and laugh. Italians? Cool. Then there are those little countries that don't matter (lol just kidding, I love you Norway, Sweden, Holland, Belgium, Spain, etc.)!

If I want to kill French, and a lot of them, there's this great game called Medieval 2: Total War. You can have entire armies of French noobs and you can cut their heads off and impale them and shoot them to your heart's content. Just saying, if you enjoy killing French...

Killing real French people is not cool since they're pacifists and lovable. But back in the day (1300s) they actually had balls.

So to the real topic of the thread: Yeah, I think there's nothing wrong with worldwide servers, as long as the ping is acceptable. That means some strong servers though, I'd imagine. I'm not a techie so I'm no expert on the mechanics of it.

Czzarre - I guarentee they have enjoyed surrendering to you as much as you have enjoyed killing them.

Played (more than a month): SWG, Second Life, Tabula Rasa, Lineage 2, Everquest 2, EvE, MxO, Ryzom.

Tried: WoW, Shadowbane, Anarchy Online, Everquest, WWII Online, Planetside

    Beta: Lotro, Tabula Rasa, WAR.

The ironic part is that the French have tanks that are actually worth a damn.

funniest thing in AoC was pvp between different nationalies. we had us brutal britsh VS the RUS corp zerghordes VS other all swedish or all pollish guilds etc. it felt like WW2 or the world cup, made it way more fun.

I don't think there any all british guilds in darkfall which is a shame, I want to make one. international guilds aren't as fun, plus trying to understand bad english on vent is a pain.

As for french as such in recent war history (and I'm not french) they did their thing quite impressively and quite recently too... Lol, the second toughest fight americans had in WWII european theatre was against vichy french in north africa (covered up ofc, not to spoil the post-war relations lol). Not to mention the massive cock up in Dien Bien Phu which although one of the most massively stupid strategic moves ever was also one of the most  fantastic examples of suicidal bravery and balls in the past 100 years (paras ftw!). Sorry, but the "let's exterminate their women and children from 30,000 feet with (very thinly veiled) WMDs" US doctrine doesn't have the right to say anything about  it at all.

It is always misleading, not to say dangerous, to mix up operational with individual military efficacy. The french were plagued with horrifyingly crappy leadership for the past hundreds and hundreds of years - similar to russians for example - in direct opposition to individual/small scale performance. Americans, the current top dogs, never had a real military tradition or culture but operationally they were superb. Never confuse societies/states with individuals - you're more than likely to get a nasty surprise.

add: Lol, Hitler never broke a sweat about US declaring war... he considered them a "mongrel nation", probably unable to sustain a serious conflict. Generalizations are dangerous and there are no rules - "cowardly french" is as silly and ultimately dangerous  as "stupid americans".

The promise of Darkfall is very interesting.

Now, along with the game factions, you can have international factions from the modern world.

Another reason to go in my notebook as to why I'd like to see it succeed.

I know. They are amassed along the Belgian border. They can be taught!

The French did make a major tactical error in the battle of Dien Bien Phu, but they were also under equipt, poorly trained, and yes, brave as hell. I also hate to bring this up, but they were defeated by an army with as much or more willpower than their own. Few people would say the NVA and it's couterparts lacked in that aspect. Another aspect of that battle is that the NVA had artillery, the equivallent of blasting your target from 30K when the enemy is situated at a lower elevation than the artillery stations.

The joke is still funny though.

Absolutely, Giap was the master intellect behind it - the euro "superiores" thought they'll beat the "great unwashed" through intellectual superiority (read artillery and logistics) but old Nguyen showed em the Word(*). In the end all the frenchies got left was balls... and they did a most impressive display of those tbh. It just shows you how generalizations don't lead anywhere... and least of all to victory. At the very end "the superiors" were left with suicide charges usually reserved for the "uncultured"...

(*) after the NVA pulverized french gun positions within the first 15 minutes of initial artillery exchange the one-eyed one-armed french artillery commandant blew himself up with a hand granade in his tent - how's that for integrity lol?!
