gpu performance

did they ever revamp the gpu performance issues they had with this game?

i remember something certain effects like bloom etc, run on the cpu regardless of your gpu features.

Games i'm playing right now...

On live right now, pre GU51, there is nothing running on any GPU, everything is ran on the CPU.

On test they are working on putting a version of shadows on the GPU, that's it so far.

Most of the game doesn't use the gpu, it uses the cpu. Its an old game.

Like they said above, the game uses the CPU, although on test they are testing out GPU shadows.  The dev in charge of the GPU shadows said there are more things they are working on, which makes it seem they are working on pushing more stuff to the GPU and away from the CPU.

The problem EQII ran into was they were developing during the "GHZ cpu race" for ever faster clockspeeds, the development therefore wasn't going to be able to account for the fact the CPU industry decided to take the multi-cpu direction it did.

Most of the game's "scaling" with technology was based off of that assumption hence....it doesn't scale well at all, had they gone with the ideaology that GPU's would continue to drive performance & put as little reliance as possible on cpu technology the games engine would have proven to have been far more robust, something I don't understand why they didn't do.

If they are indeed trying to move the most performance hogging aspects of the game's engine over to full GPU processing it bodes well for the game, but it will be a costly process retrofitting the whole engine that way, but if they manage to get enough moved over it would boost the games longevity & performance very considerably.

When SOE added the multi-core support a few patches back I can say that the performance of the game greatly increased.  If they could move a bunch of the more robust settings to the GPU the game could be set for several years to come.

    It's a Jeep thing. . .
