let's face it: many chose their characters because they knew it was OP. that's what they call 'balance' and now they're blaming the developers when they get nerfed. well those developers are mostly listening to contradicting feedback. if that's the downfall for a game like this then it's a real shame and it says more about the players than the developers.
Actually I believe the devs are new to all this and are learning as they go when it comes to balance.
I think you are right. These guys are new to this, and it shows. Further I don't think they respond to the player feedback much at all.
But as an example of where their mind is, they have said they want Scout as a support class. They think Scout is good the way it is after the nerf. Nobody is playing this class anymore. Go to the early stages of the game. Mage is now 2 out of 3 of every new character as everyone is rerolling a new Mage, LOL.
Npbody wants to play a lame class that is going to take 2x as long to level with.
??? Autoshoot is nice and ability to attack both weapons at the same time. I have seen tons of Scout/rogues these days.
I'm talking about the new toons being made. I see few of anything but Mage around Logar or Varanas. People are rerolling. The Mage is probably as plentiful as the other 5 classes combined right now! (I'm talking pve).
Scout especially has become the fodder of jokes in game chat these days.
C'mon, they added a 2nd epic quest for the release patch and the thing is bugged right out of the gate, LOL. These guys are amateurs.
Problem is they do not have test server to iron things out, WoW had ton of broken quests post launch even the ones that were working fine in beta hence they added a test server. Currently Frogstar has a month or so head way to get things patch and fixed before people's patience runs out.
caelach, I'm starting to think you deliberately don't see the obvious because of your little own vendetta against RoM Frogster is only the publisher. Runewalker is the dev. Now what Frogster does is more or less secretary & PR work. They gather info and feedback and pass it to Runewalker, they adverstise the game, but that's it. They don't have the means to modify game content on the fly, they don't have access to game code; for evry single change, they have to ask Runewalker to do the actual work. Now if they ask for certain balancing, they don't know how it would affect the rest of the game content but after patching and ppl starting to complain. Yes, they should have test server(s), but currently all their resources go into keeping more servers online (which is fine, 'cause ultimately lag is the main game killer). The only bad thing is that Frogster tends to listen to some idiots that don't understand RoM is not PvP based too much, since all the class balancing issues started from the "X class is OPed because it can 1 hit me in PvP" type of complaints. Ppl refuse to understand they play a class combo, and not a single self efficient class, that RoM is PvE focused, not PvP, and so on. They're bitching all day without giving a second thought on things and always from a selfish point of view - they should all be the best DD, tanks and nukers in one char. Tztztzz...

First you try to give the impression that Frogster has no influence at all in how the game is developed, then it's suddenly a bad thing that they listen to idiots. You're contradicting yourself. Btw, Frogster has a lot of influence when it comes to how the western verison of the game is developed. The two companies have regular meetings discussing such issues, Kerensky (EU community manager) have talked more than once about this.
Caelach may have issues with the game, but he's pointing at several issues that annoys a lot of players, and which are making a lot of players leave. Browse through the EU forum if you need examples. Remember, criticism may lead to improvements, blind fanboyism will not.

Are you even capable of understanding what I've said, yes or no? I said Frogster has to ask Runewalker to do THE ACTUAL WORK on the the game everytime they want to change something. Yes, they call the shots, no, they're not doing it themselves - so if a problem appears after such modifications, the devs bear the whole responsability since they're the ones who actually tinker the game - and the devs = RUNEWALKER.
Who's leaving the game? I see the same high lvl players chatting all day on zone chat, asking for a spot in the ant raid, etc. Nobody left. And fact is, even in a dead & burried game, high lvl players tend to lurk until the final closure, because they've invested too much time & money in their characters. If you think ppl that invested hundreds of euros in their toons already will leave, you're fooling yourself. Some low to mid lvl players might quit, but this happens to all games whenever a major change is not popular. I'm not a fan boy, my character got affected by the latest changes too, but I don't care since RoM is just something to spend my free time on and doesn't cost me a thing (apart from the time spent in game).
I've been downloading it for two days. Keep thinking I should just cancel it.
What I don't like is the game is advertised as having certain things. All attacks having an element and groups chaining attacks for combos, for instance. Or mages have sheilds they can put up to protect the party or other spells to incase enemies in walls of fire. These are things the main website claims are in the game. They are not in the game at all, however. It doesn't seem like they will ever be in the game in some cases (such as the elemental combos). Just looks like a lot of promises and not much delivery -- certainly not much delivery in the areas that interested me the most when I first looked into it.
Now you can say "oh, but it's F2P!", but that doesn't excuse the fact that they are essentially lying here. (Nor the fact that they do expect to make money on it, so it isn't really free).

Cause they only have elite skills upto lv 30 so we have not seen all the skills yet, on release lv 35 elite skills were to be released but they were delayed.

1. That doesn't cover the elemental combos they claim to have. All attacks are supposed to have an element associated with them. It's on their main site under combat.
2. Even for these elite skills, if they aren't implemented and the game has been released, then they shouldn't act like they have been implemented. Also, cages of fire and protective shields are indicated as things all mages have, not just the right sort of mage (who picked his second class just so).
Anyhow, you can't ge away from the fact that it is false advertising. They say they have things and they don't have them.
Except near max levels you essentially need to pay for gear. You certainly don't get what you pay for then.
Beyond that, the "you get what you pay for argument" is inane, because the company is intending to make money off the game. There are also plenty of free games out there that actually don't promise more than they deliver. Overall, you really just can't justify them describing a different game on their site than what they actually offer.

Actually, that's partially correct info. There are currently some hidden effects in game of solo attack chains, like stuns and slows for example. However, as they said, ppl have to discover how exactly these work and how to be triggered when needed, instead of the current random accidentally triggering. But we have still little to no info on these and I don't think the party hidden attack effects are implemented yet. The whole combat system is going through a major revamping (and they've not even touched the elites yet) so a lot of things would be eventually changed. But tbh, it's really difficult to build and maintain a fully functional party in order to discover, experiment & benefit from such posibilities...ppl prefer to form random parties or join full raids for bosses.
Do not avoide this game, give it a try, dual system is awsome. in almost every mmorpg i play a knight/warrior a sword based charackter and a mage magic type charackter well it sometimes sucks switching around having two characktes with this system you can play both and just switch around. also its not always the same old get x amount of stuff bring it to me or kill x amount of mobs. yes of course this game like every other mmorpg got it, but there are also other quests like you have to catch using a robe animals. so give this game a try. also i hate when people say its a WoW Clone. IT IS NOT. a clone is something that is a or is almost a 1 to 1 copy this aint no 1 to 1 copy maybe it looks a bit the same and got trades of WoW well hello what about WoW? you could say that every new mmorpg is a clone of another mmorpg. every mmorpg got there basics which are identical to every otehr mmorpgs.

dragule, I'm stating to think you work for these guys . I have no more a vendetta against ROM than I would any other money grubbing scam with limited content.
I would advise anybody who wants to try this game to first read the ROM forums if they don't believe me. And realize that many threads criticizing the development of this game have been closed. If you read the forums and you still think this money grubbing grinder is worth a try, go for it. But don't spend any money until you're SURE this is for you. Wait until you get past level 30 or more, and do so with a couple different classes. The content is limited and there are really only 4 zones that aren't all that big anyway (the other zones are redundant).
I'm just trying to warn a few people. Don't jump into this thing all enthused because a ton of people did in beta and are gone now. And don't go by the two posters here that always prop and pimp this game. It's easy enough for a couple guys associated with the game to take a few minutes a day to promote this scam.

"Nobody left"
Don't be ridiculous. There's not a single MMO out there where ppl aren't leaving on a daily basis. The ONLY reason to even remotely claim "nobody left", is that you don't cancel accounts when leaving a F2P game. That doesn't mean everyone is still around. And you REALLY sound like you work for Frogster, this is almost like the "we have 700,000 registered accounts = we have 700,000 active players" impression they're trying to give. It's just a load of crap.
Not a fanboy? Well, you sure had me fooled!
Btw, you'll probably think that I'm some troll who's hating everything about this game. That's far from the truth, I'm currently playing this game on a daily basis. But this stupidity, attacking anything that's remotely negative about the game, that's just sad.

Just Be Aware
They dont just close threads attacking them, they close all kinds of threads. heck there are several that came close to being closed simply because one of the GM's dont like guilds announcing when they were the first at doing something in the end game. Personally I think they are a little to strict on some of their post deletions but hey, it is their board so not really a lot we can say about it.
I can tell you right now that I am not associated with the game other than simply playing it and yes I do think it is a lot of fun. However, now that I am in my 40's I am starting to see more of some of the stuff people have been arguing about. The 40-50 zone is actually pretty small in my opinion. Way to small for the amount of people that is there on my server.
But I have to disagree on when to spend money. You want them to just run around for 30 levels? Sure they can rent horses but frankly I think that is a waste and if your a plate wearing class, From my understanding, those guys usually stay broke just repairing their armor. My very first purchase was a permanent horse at the ripe old age of level 5. It was the best purchase of the game in my opinion. Some of the other stuff is cool and when I get 50 and get the items I want to keep, I will probably purchase some more stuff, but it certanly isnt requred to level (Except I think the horse is, just to cut down your running around time).
For me the game play is fun. it appears you didnt like it and thats ok because not everyone is going to like a game. Heck I still have a love/hate relationship with Eve online and I been playing it off and on for a couple years.
Personally I feel if you enjoy a game then you should try and help support it. One of my favorite "little" games Albatross 18 recently shut its doors because they wasn't making enough money. Free to play to me is misleading. Sure you CAN play it for free but if nobody bought anything, they would go out of business fast so it does require people to support the game. Bandwidth and servers are not cheap.

I must say for any that think spending $9 to $18 on one perm mount for one character is a bit pricey, then definitely wait until you are sure this game is something you want longer term before you spend a dime. If money is no object, knock yourself out. C'mon, you can run on foot entirely across some of these zones in 2-3 minutes. The content is just not that much. For most folks I think this game will seem pretty much a waste of their time and money.
Account bound mounts that hardly help anything sure seem overpriced, especially since the classes are currently vastly imbalanced and changes are pending. But look at it from another perspective.
You are new to the game, you find out that the WoW formula is working like charm, you are excited and you feel like spending. Now what. You do not know how to mod gear, gear mods are disgustingly overpriced when you realise what all you need for a single piece of gear and most of all, they are not fun. The merchant stones do piss poor job of introducting you to the system - unless you have the insider info they just destroy four nice pieces of gear and a one crappy one out of them - just great. The merchant jewels are the same - you get ten of them and generally end up being humiliated with "fail" messages. Or you can buy furniture that enhances your time spent "not" playing and has effects that are not clear at all and asks you to run boring math converting four different currencies.
Do the people run with pink outfit on neon green horse because they are that decadent or because there simply is nothing else for them to spend money on? This is where the *publisher* fails. They overtune instances to push people into cash shop gear but people do not know how to use the tool, it is not fun and it is blatantly not worth it at that level. People do not get the message at all, they just feel miserable in any kind of party play and instead of playing themselves have to ask others to play for them.
And then the real alarming message is that the game is going nowhere. It was a better game in beta. Better tuned, more fun. Instances more open to random groups, better drops to actually use the gear modding with for everyone, better class ballance (even the mages, DPS was medium but they always were the most flexible DPS and the cheapest to play with a and with good CC to make up for it). Now they are postponing Ravenfell, which in the end will end up as relevant as Sacilla Steppes now, aka cool but useless zone - they are throwing money in the sink like that. When they introduce new instances, at the same time they make older ones harder to prevent new players to see the content.
It is just going nowhere. And it is *publisher* to blame. Heck even their CM hints at internal management issues now.

To me it's exactly the same thing, because even when they want to change something, they can't do it themselves, they have to contact Runewalker and say: "we want this and that changed"; HOWEVER, how exactly would Runewalker do it it's their bussiness and if by doing so they affect other functions of the game, they bear the responsability, since Frogster doesn't have direct access to the game code. It's like when you order a certain custom product from a manufacturer: you specify certain options that you want, but how the manufacturer manages to finish the product and deliver it to your it's his problem and responsability. You don't get access to the factory & the production line, you don't work on the product yourself, you're just getting the finished product - hopefuly - as specified. Now if that product has some hidden issues, you won't be able to detect them on the spot, so it might take a while. That's what pretty much happens each time a big patch is implemented: some issues are solved and other bigger problems surface.
There's not a single MMO out there where ppl aren't leaving on a daily basis.
Of course ppl start or quit games on daily basis. But there's a significant difference between low to mid lvl players and the high lvl ones - and I was reffering to the high level players. I haven't seen any of them leaving yet; I don't know how the situation is on other servers, but on mine they're still there, raiding the ants Fact is, a low lvl player won't be such a big CS spender since there's no real need for it and chances for him/her to quit after a few weeks are high. In most MMOs the high (and max) lvl players are the big spenders since they're motivated by the high end content or they've simply invested far too much money to quit their toons. All the F2P + CS games are based on the same principle: the growing addiction of the players to the game as they lvl up - the higher the lvl, the higher than chance to hook 'em and milk them. It's a well known truth, nothing to secret or complicated. Judging from my experience there are 3 types of players that fill the F2P + CS games: 1. the players that have nothing better to play so they're hopping from one MMO to another until a certain game they're expecting is launched; 2. ppl that prefer to spend cash in order to quickly gain the upper hand & dominate; 3. ppl that don't have the money to play a P2P game or don't want to anymore (like me). Players from the 1st and 3rd category will fluctuate and will quit at some point, but the ones from the 2nd category will stay and become the core of the paying customer group. Because of them, F2P + CS games will always have cash flowing in their pockets.
For most folks I think this game will seem pretty much a waste of their time and money.
Isn't that the case with all these games though? It's not like you win money or prizes if you hit 50. It's all in the entertainment value and for F2P games like this, the entertainment to cost ratio is pretty high. Surely you enjoyed yourself at some point in RoM, and I'll be willing to bet you got your money's worth out of it.

I don't feel I got my money's worth. I really didn't need to spend money for what I was doing in the game. My impressions in beta were that these guys were fair and not money grubbers. So I "donated" to a good cause. Big mistake. Completely changing the combat system before release, which amounted basically to a huge nerf to"allow players to enjoy the content longer", clearly showed this enterprise was after money period. I don't mind a game trying to make money. But integrity is essential. This game is just lame. Most folks will find their time and money better spent elsewhere.

I've seen others throw this accusation around but if it were true, then the changes would have slowed down leveling for all classes. Both Mages and Warriors got a boost to DPS (they even further boosted Warrior 2H axe DPS with the recent patch). Knights and Priests remained mostly unchanged (although Priest damage is actually higher if you spec into your damage spells now). Only Rogues & Scouts saw a decrease in DPS.
So there's really zero evidence to back up this theory.
Everything you just said is pretty much void, they changed the game mechanics again as of today with the new patch. Higher levels will not have noticed the diffrence because their weapon skills are most likely maxed out. But a lot of people are complaining about skills missing, heals not affecting as much on other players etc.
Imagine a mage whos magic skills continue to miss because he/she decided to train on mobs slightly higher than their level. Sorry but the game is heading for a quick death and the devs realise considering their CEO is panicking as i write this.
Good riddance i say, go find somthing better to play. Plenty more fish in the sea, sheep in the field etc etc.
I just started the AOC free trial and I am very impressed thus far. It seems leaps and bounds better than RoM. The graphics are stuning and the audio is the best of any game I have played to date. I haven't played long enough to give a fair assessment of the game as a whole but so far everything seems very well done. Adios RoM.

I played a little bit today on my lowly knight/warrior (13/12). While I did notice more misses and dodges, I didn't notice myself losing battles or dying. Honestly, I haven't really been affected. I played in open beta and have played since then and am still having fun. If anything, I thought the game was too easy. Please note, however, that I don't have any characters over level 20, so I can't comment on the difficulty of any content past that point.
Regardless, I don't see what all the whining is about. MMOs continue to be tweaked and balanced well after launch, sometime especially after or immediately preceding launch, as is the case with RoM. More content will be added, further tweaking will take place, etc... A vocal minority will complain, a smaller minority will quit because of the changes, new players will continue to trickle in and the rest will just keep on playing until something else catches there eyes.
Been playing in the beta since December. The recent massive change to the combat system has destroyed this game. Most classes are now nerfed to the point that it is a super grind. The GMs on the forum actually have the nerve to say it is "to let the player enjoy the content LONGER". That is hilarious. Translation: grind and spend in th CS to try to relieve the grind a bit! This is really sad, because it looked like a good game. It is also quite underhanded to suck in the beta players with one thing and creat a nice starting player base, then pull the rug out and destroy their characters. These people are the typical sleazy f2p bunch.
Update: They finally "released" the game. What a joke. The nerfing of most classes was not fixed with the release patch. This is a big grind and the lag is terrible. Every other toon you see is a mage because the other classes suck. What started out as an awesome f2p game is just another money grubbing endeavor.
I also note since release, and the "Great Nerfing" the rating here has dropped from 8.4 to 8 in a week. Expect more of the same. But now you can buy an ostrich mount for $18 bucks or so!!! That's their idea of a game improvement. If you haven't played it get a copy of Guild Wars for $15 on ebay or amazon. It blows this CS grind away.
What are you talking about grind RoM is one of the eayest games to reach max lvl in, now that they released a new region you can get from lvl 45-50 in a day.... ever play lineage 2 ?

Currently Frogstar has a month or so head way to get things patch and fixed before people's patience runs out.
caelach, I'm starting to think you deliberately don't see the obvious because of your little own vendetta against RoM
Frogster is only the publisher.
Frogster (who I loath) has control IMO. It's too bad also.
You get what you pay for...

Sending back feedback they gathered isn't the same as "has to ask Runewalker to do the actual work on the the game everytime they want to change something.". That's two VERY different things. First one is neutral, second is trying to influence development.

It's a well known truth, nothing to secret or complicated.Judging from my experience there are 3 types of players that fill the F2P + CS games:
1. the players that have nothing better to play so they're hopping from one MMO to another until a certain game they're expecting is launched;
2. ppl that prefer to spend cash in order to quickly gain the upper hand & dominate;
3. ppl that don't have the money to play a P2P game or don't want to anymore (like me).
Players from the 1st and 3rd category will fluctuate and will quit at some point, but the ones from the 2nd category will stay and become the core of the paying customer group. Because of them, F2P + CS games will always have cash flowing in their pockets.
