Does capping now work like party sync?

XerekXerek Member CommonPosts: 61

I know in the past, if you ran a capped mission, your level got dropped, and you had to go buy a ton of low-level gear.  My question now is, since level sync can lower your level, and just lower the attributes of your gear, which way does the game handle capping?  Do you still need low-level gear, or does it scale it, as if you were level syncing?

Thanks,

It just scales the stats of your gear to your lvl.  Its pretty awesome.  I just joined FFXI again and I am LOVING it.  It almost feels like oldschool EQ

So say  I am level 55 with a full set of AF,   and I join a BCNM 40,   the armor i am wearing now scales down?  No need to gear swap into some level 40 gear proper?

Ohhh... not too sure about that.   Maybe I misread the question.  I thought he was asking how lvl synch worked.  Im only like an 18 whm

Basically, whatever level you sync to, the armor that is the best for that level is going to win out over the gear higher than that of what you're wearing. But, that doesn't mean it's useless. Just that it's equivalent to the common type of armor. Either way, it's not like being naked, so you don't need to buy capped gear. But if you wanted to be at your best, you'd do that.

Also, can't wear all AF until 60. So at 55 you'll just be wearing the first two pieces. But it will scale down.

Thanks, but Googles hit the true question.  I know if I were to sync w/a lvl 30 for the Dragon fight, my gear would sync down as well.  My question is, if I join that group without syncing, and I just get capped to 30 by the mission, does the capping work like syncing, where my gear would still be synced down, or would the cap work like it used to, requiring me to sync or get seperate equipment for that level?

Sorry for all the questions, but I'm returning after a long absence (pre-Promathia), and I'm trying to get my head around the changes.

    Thanks,

It auto scales down in capped areas. Dragon fight for rank 3 is 25. Wouldn't want you to go unprepared.

Groovy, thanks. Been years since I ran it. I'm actually starting over. I need to get myself reattuned with the game, especially with the changes, and all the things I missed. Thanks for all the help.

    Point of information:

Level sync has nothing to do with the amror scaling down. They just happened to be implemented at the same update. Common misconception, but you will find that if you do a capped fight (mission, bcnm, Pso'xja, etc ...) your armor will not "fall off" and you will not have level sync on.

Thanks, that is exactly what I was asking.  The game's a lot different then when I left, and in all good ways.
