Hey gang, What do you guys think of this idea? Should Blizzard create special servers where people must take an IQ test to enter? The people with IQ's 130 and higher will be allowed to enter. So, what do you think, is my idea dumb, or not? If you think my idea is stupid, please don't flame me too bad. I can take a happy ending but I can't stand a perfect storm... Ichben Einberliner edit: The person would not have to take the IQ test every time he or she wants to play the game. The IQ test would be taken, let's say, every 6 months.
If you are playing a MMO good chance you already have an IQ below 120.
If you asking this question about WoW players, there is a good chance you don't qualify for the servers you ask for.
What exactly are you basing this little tidbit on?
A little thing called hyperbole.
Get this shit. Last time I took an "official" test (1994?) it said I had an IQ of 145. I dropped out of High School in 9th because after I had gotten held back in 8th and then 9th the second time, I had no interest in being the only asshole at graduation of legal age to both smoke and drink. After I dropped out, however, I realized I was actually gifted with computers. Long story short, 10 years later, I'm a lead software developer for a Massachusetts billing software company. All of my peers have (atleast) Masters degrees in CompSci. Two of them came out of MIT. Me? Nadda. I did like a day of college (seriously). Can I hold my own in a technical conversation? Damn tootin. Do they respect my ability? I'm usually the guy they come to when they can't figure shit out themselves and Google gives them a single-finger salute.
I'm a lazy bastard from the word go. I failed miserably in school because I cared more about my friendships and chicks and drugs than I did about doing my homework. At age 5 did I summarily usher in the new age of American Poetry by writing a sonnet even the Great Bard would cream his pants over? Nope. I was busy making mud pies and killing grasshoppers just like all you guys. Am I a genius? Yes and I can hold a decent conversation to boot. See.. average people just love to think genius comes with its shortcomings. Like being smart somehow makes you socially inept or inable to do your own taxes or tie your shoes. Its like they need genius to cause rainman syndrome because if it doesn't, somehow, there isn't justice.
I say: fuck justice and fuck you because I'm the life of the Goddamn party and I'm successful enough to wreck both my cars ten times and STILL be able to get season tickets to the Red Sox.
So... um.. yeah, I'll join your server.
Arrogance is your weakness. I'm not saying that you're not a smart guy, but which type of IQ test was it? IMO, you can't be horribly smart if you've had 10 car wrecks. I understand that with a car wreck, it usually only takes 1 to tango/tangle, but when you've had 10 of them., I'd wager more than 1 of the wrecks was all your fault. That's stupid.

I am not sure if this has been mentioned before, but it would seem that creating a server that required a high IQ would be asking for trouble. Discrimination comes to mind, cannot dicriminate against people based on inteligence. What would keep us from saying lets create a server just for people with both legs. Cannot segregate a gaming comunity in such a way. Blizzard would have a lawsuit the second they tried it. Now just consider me saying different types of ways to seperate people on different servers. I'm pretty sure that will help to demonstrate how one simple thing can lead to others, even though IQs might not seem so bad. Once taken to other other groups of people it begins to sound worse and worse, where would it all stop? Race? Gender? Religion? Sexual Orientation? With all that said just try to enjoy the game as it is, and try t find humor in the immaturity that takes place. If you are ambitious you can even try to educate them. Just never stoop to their level, and help make the world a beter place. Both in real live and in the online world.
Well said Mr. Duality, very good and solid argument against my idea.
Heck most of the comments in this thread was well thought out. Thanks for the feedback gang!! :-)

LOL you want to find people with high IQs playing WOW? Er that is a silly thing to even ask. Anyone playing this point and clicky shity combat game is retarded. Get with the high IQ people and play Darkfall !
IQ server no, its so hard to tell if people will cheat for the test or not. But some kind of test/rating system determined by blizz to see if people are allowed to enter raids/allowed to do raids with other players would be nice. I got sick of people getting me wiped 4 times on simple bosses like thaddius in pugs because they do not know how to differentiate simple things like left and right and hence causing me to incur a repair bill. If they actually implement this i might still consider coming back to this game.

Just as this has anything to do with IQ.
Video games are 60% eye hand coordination and 30% area awareness.
You DO know that one of the MOST intelligent people living on this planet is clustered to a chair and can only move his head ?
Probably the worst thread in ages.
Are you seriously that dense that you can't understand his original point? It has nothing to do with how they play the game, but how they act while they play it. He doesn't care how good they are. He is interested in if a server like this would weed out some of the immature people in the WoW community or not. And lets face it, WoW has one of the most immature, childish communities of any game I have ever played. It would be interesting to see.
Although, an IQ requirement of 130 would be pretty high. Even a requirement of 100 would eliminate half of the WoW players from being able to play on it.
Tried: LotR, CoH, AoC, WAR, Jumpgate Classic Played: SWG, Guild Wars, WoW Playing: Eve Online, Counter-strike Loved: Star Wars Galaxies Waiting for: Earthrise, Guild Wars 2, anything sandbox.

IQ has nothing to do with character and behaviour.
Nor has IQ anyhting to do with how good you are in playing video games.
I am baffled you can't understand this.
/sigh...
Like talking to a wall.
He is saying it would be INTERESTING to see if there was an effect, not that there would be in either way.
And he isn't talking about how good someone is at the game at all, I don't know why you aren't grasping that.

I am all for this. Then smug idiots like Ichben could flock together and smell their farts on one sever and i can spam trade chat with ANAL [blood strike] or Murlokinator:

As there is absolutly NO correlation between higher IQ and character and behaviour, I don't see the point.
All I can see is some elitair posts of guys thinking that higher IQ's lead to better (group) video game play, which of course is nonsense.
A person's behaviour and character is not in relation to his/her IQ.
Enough litterature on that.
So worst thread in years (and that says something on mmorpg.com ))

That's not necessarily fair, I played WoW and my IQ is over 130. Saying people are stupid just because they play WoW isn't right at all.
Tried: LotR, CoH, AoC, WAR, Jumpgate Classic Played: SWG, Guild Wars, WoW Playing: Eve Online, Counter-strike Loved: Star Wars Galaxies Waiting for: Earthrise, Guild Wars 2, anything sandbox.
First of all, as someone else already said, WoW already has its fair share of elitists. This would only add to the problem. Imagine on the forums... "Your opinion doesn't count because you're not on the high IQ server"
Second, the screening would be incredibly difficult. How do you know the person playing the account is the one taking the test? You could just get the most clever person you know to take the test.
And thirdly, and this is just nit picking a bit really... Only around 2.2% of the population have an IQ over 130. The server(s) would have a fairly poor population.
MMOs played (In order of how much I've liked them): Star Wars Galaxies, World of Warcraft, Vanguard, City of Villains / Heroes, Guild Wars, Warhammer Online, Age of Conan, Tabula Rasa, Anarchy Online, Ryzom, Final Fantasy XI, Matrix Online, RF Online, Rappelz, Hero Online, Roma Victor
I honestly think this server wouldn't have anyone with any brains whatsoever only stuck up retards who belive themselves smart. Even if it didn't exisit Blizzard would do it because it is stupid to invest for a small minority of players (QQing retards) just so that they can spam trade chat, but with the laws of quantum physics.
If you really really really want this server open a private server and hide the registration link.Yes I know it is against ToS (I don't play on one) and that it could get your account banned, but what are you paying the fifteen dollars a month for, QQing or did you get your account banned from the live servers for trolling.
Sorry for flaming your post, but it strikes me as stupid.

You know Zorndorf, I think this thread has been extremely productive and I am extremely proud of the members of this board.
Oh and by the way, are you still having Incarnal relations with my mother?
lawl, having a server like this would be just as bad or even worse to play on then the normal servers, I can picture it already. XD Little snobs chucking a bitch fit over someone making an honest mistake, guilds filled with arrogant pricks. Really, the vast majority of people who would move onto a server like this thinking they're soooo much more superior then others would be those types.
The idea behind the post? Dumb people play warcraft so its hard for OP to find good players to carry him/her through content. Solution: Have your real life friends, or meet locals who will play with you, their IQ might not be over 130 either but it can be easier to teach people when were not tied to a keyboard. Real life people also tend to be slightly less obnoxious since they are no longer anonymous avatars on the screen, consequences for moronic behavior can be found offline.
Do the trade spammer babies bother you? Blizzard like many other game developers have implimented a genius feature into their game that allows you to almost customize your community. It is the ignore feature. Through this genius tool you may hide the annoying chat from your screen completely. There is a limit to the amount of people you can ignore but there are addons which correct this.
This really is the fix all post for anyone who doesnt like the warcraft community. Oh, and dont read your server forums. Ever.
You wouldn't get a MMO without morons, they stand for a lot of the "massive" thing in the name.
Only way as I see it is to play on a private server but that is of course illegal. Or try other games, EQ2s community is more mature even though you still find morons there too.
Live with them and make a good guild with nice people in anyways, you can even turn off general chat and only use the guild one, and if you make the guild yourself you can kick anyone that don't qualify for you.
