seems some people have mixed feelings 'bout it, but so far i beieve it will have enough success to make it worthwhile, even if most buyers will do it just to support Ryzom.

not sure which poll you are looking at but it doesn't look like most people are in favor of this

and to top it off a fairly large portion of those playing the game can't even vote - still don't have full access to the forums

i do like the suggestion of a paypal contribution button though

well apparantly the international is the least optimistic community. Probably something to do with the problems in their even team, the other servers have gotten way more events and player involvement over the past few months. I hear on the french server player-run governments have even already been implemented. That having been said, 1 out of 5 voters is willing to pay a lifetime sub just to support Ryzom, and for no other reason, i think that says something :)

I don't even play Ryzom anymore because I don't really like the way the game controls, but I think I might do this. I love what they are trying to do, and I want other companies to have the courage to do something so out of the bounds of normal EQ/WoW type games. I want more UO type games. Darkfall has messed this up I think for some.

The freedom is Ryzom is perfect. I want more games to have this level of freedom (not to mention great innovations like mod behavior and such).

I suggest anyone do this that wants companies to have the courage to break the mold. Show them we support that.

"There are two great powers, and they've been fighting since time began. Every advance in human life, every scrap of knowledge and wisdom and decency we have has been torn by one side from the teeth of the other. Every little increase in human freedom has been fought over ferociously between those who want us to know more and be wiser and stronger, and those who want us to obey and be humble and submit."

    So the company:

1.) which has been running Ryzom for mere months

2.) still refuses to even give a straight answer as to their company name and who they are

3.) who have added a token bit of development/bug fixing on their end

4.) who constantly ignore and refuse to talk to the community when begged to on the forums

5.) who supposely have no money now to develop any further

6.) who cannot or will not answer inquiries regarding WHAT they plan to do with Ryzom, WHAT content they plan to add, WHEN they are going to advertise, etc., etc.

wants players to shell out $260 USD and HOPE the game is still here in 3 months, much less the 3 YEARS it would take for the "Atysian subsription" to even out in the customers favor?

I'm sorry, I've tried to remain somewhat optimistic about Ryzom finally getting it's turn in the sun. But all I smell here is a quick cash grab and run.

They knew before they bought Ryzom whether they would have the money and/or determination to make it work. Yet they're trying the "Oops, we bit off a little too much and need your support" line.

I hope the few who said they would buy this "lifetime" crap aren't in charge of any financial institutions in real life, because they show a complete lack of business sense ( as well as common sense ) in saying they'd support these jokers' idea of a "lifetime subscription" for a game with no discernible "lifetime" left.

WisebutCrule pretty much hit the nail on the head. The game has been killed and resurrected about what, three times now? Would you really put out for a lifetime subscription for something that may very well die again in a month or two? I mean, don't get me wrong, I like the game (sort of, I like the setting, but the implementation is more of a grind )=) but it's way too volitile.

Bans a perma, but so are sigs in necro posts.

Looking at the post... there is no indication that the lifetime sub is the only option.

If you think that it is a cash grab and run, then by all means pay the monthly sub.

Point is, they've shown us nothing, at all. There should never have even been the thought of a lifetime subscription. The fact that they even tried to propose one throws up red flags all over the place.

    so that's why:

in the international community, the most pessimistic of all 3 communities, 28% players voted they would be happy to get a lifetime sub, either to help ryzom or cuz they think the price is fair.

in the french community 32.5% thinks what Spiderweb/Winchgate proposes is good,

and of the german community a whopping 46% voted they would get the subscription.

Because you don't like it doesn't mean it's not a good idea, let people make up their own minds.

They've been running the servers for free for a while now, i can imagine they'd like a quick cash injection, they've already spent more than they would gain through this lifetime sub.

Also take into account cruel, that most people who voted for the lifetime subscription, want to pay to help ryzom. They want to do what they can to keep ryzom alive, and risk the chance it won't last the 3 years.

And if those people have the money to throw away, more power to them.

As condescending as this may sound, anyone with any common sense at all and even a rudimentary grasp of the games' current and past situations would go no further than a monthly payment until this company actually shows something more substantial than words.

again, most say they'll do it to "help ryzom", I imagine they'll see the lifetime sub as a kind of "donate" button.
