I really enjoyed AoC for a while when I got it about a month or so after launch, but I ended up quitting for a variety of reasons. Now I'd like to try the game again, but I have a few questions before I grab the free trial or resubscribe;
1. Did they ever add diversity to lower level armor or at least improve the art? When I started the game I thought it was so cool that my character looked like a brutal psychopath stranded in a jungle with a broken bottle as his only defense... And I thought it was significantly less cool that the next 30 or so levels were spent looking like a sack of potatos. Has any of this improved or will I still be stuck in the same generic brown leather until 80?
2. PvP on PvE servers. Playing on Wiccana, I could never get any of the PvP minigames going, and I still don't know if there is any way to flag yourself for PvP on a PvE server. With the server merges and PvP update I was hoping that some of this had changed. Has it?
3. Did they ever make mini dungeon interiors as beautiful as the games exterior environments? I remember going through the first destiny quest outside of Tortage and getting a headache from the formless mass of reddish earth I was forced to slog through. Likewise, my first trip into the Black Castle was incredibly lackluster, even if the traps were really cool. I've heard that *some* dungeons got a revamp, but did they ever make any of the others look less sucky?
4. How is the Tempest of Set lately? When I played they were pretty much gods, and I find that just as boring as playing an underpowered class. I heard they got nerfed to the weakest class in the game now. Is that true?
5. Should I bother waiting for patch 1.05, or will it not make much of a difference considering I'll be starting from level 1 with the trial?
Thank you in advance for any answers.

This is my question as well.
I started playing AoC when it first came out, and I really enjoyed it.
However - My only gripe was the limitation on clothing/armor variants.
Was extremely annoying, and it did feel like I was in potato sacks until I was level 40.
Then when I saw my next armor for level 60, it was BROWN.
Left the game.
So... If that has changed, I'd definitely resubscribe.
I'd love to know how things have improved on the armor front as well. I really disliked looking the same no matter how much I leveled. It was even worse when I'd see npcs below me in level or even enemies looking better then players.
People can check out the gear and weapons here: http://aoc.yg.com/
Search by level and type. There is more variation post level 40. A lot of neat looking stuff can be found in open world epic zones. Or even the personal instances that scale with your level.
Also go to player profiles for specific servers search by level and you can actually see what people are wearing.
Lvl 41 pom for example. With a few pieces of Sanctum stuff.
Nifty site, but it doesn't tell me if any of the standard armor in the game has changed from the old template of "greyish brown leather with a kilt" that I kept seeing. If anything, that site only confirms my suspicions that all the good looking armor is confined to raid epics and level 40+ boss drops. Now, I'm not asking to look like an all-powerful dark lord of evil just by solo questing in Stygia, but it would be a huge help if I didn't look flat out boring. That's actually one of the major reasons why I quit the game in the first place.
All I want to see is a little bit of model variation, or even some color would be nice. Has there been any change to gear in this regard? If I knew my characters could look like more than a glorified sandbag in standard levelling gear, I'd definitely resubscribe.
I totally understand where you are coming from. Couple of things that stick out for me is that it has to kinda be lore orientated. Another thing with Patch 1.05 will be that armor will not always be character based but there will be cross class choices. As in Soldier / Mages, whatever falls under your archtype.
