Wat was ur first mmo experience where u died and got so mad u cried, quit or broke something in ur house?
Once upon a time I play this MMO called Meridian 59 back when 3DO was running the game, I was showing my bud the game at the time cuz he was new and interested in playing it with me butI had to go away for a week and he was still fairly new to the internet online game play, since he didn't have an account yet I said it was alright to play on mine just so long as you don't log on my main character, of course when I return I saw he had not only logged on to my main but also died many times, death penalty was not a big factor but in Meridian 59 if you die you're corpse can be looted by anyone passing by and I ended up pissed off refusing to be a mentor to my bud to show him the ropes in the game for a few weeks, but eventually I got over it and deleted the character he screwed up for me and made a new one to play with him, in the end we turned out to be a good pk hunting duo.
Another time was when I was playing UO when it was still under Origin, I was looking for a house to buy, I found a person who at the time I thought would sell me theirs, so I follow him, shows me his house for sale and we both go inside (3 story small house) and on the 2nd floor he kill me and takes my 6 figure check. I got so mad quit and cried all night, UO soon faded away afterwards and along came EQ thank god they never had player housing.

Never happened to me. But a friend of mine spent all his money on some double-swords (or whatever they're called) in Lineage II, got killed by a PKer within 10 minutes while testing them out, had them drop on the ground and the PKer picked them up. He logged out, uninstalled the game, cancelled his subscription, and to this day scowls at anyone mentioning Lineage II. :-p
Its a shame when events in a game can ruin your whole experience. Over time you learn to limit the risk but its still sucks. I think my worst situation was being ganked in Vanguard and not being able to play the game at all. I had to log out and start a new character so I could just play the freaking game.
In EQ, losing a level and/or getting killed in an area that seemed like an impossible recovery caused a little bit of keyboard abuse, but that was about it.
I have a friend who used those little rectangular Nintendo controllers like a ninja uses throwing stars. When he died on a boss, you had better take cover because there was a controller heading in a random direction at potentially lethal speeds.

I ask for so little. Just fear me, love me, do as I say and I will be your slave.
I spent 500k gps in Runescape trying to get my Staff of Guthix. I lost quite a bit of Blood Runes to PKers back in the day.

Guys! I'm hopelessly lost in a mountain of mole hills! Them damn moles!
I never set myself u for frustrations like that. A few hours into UO beta and it is clear that UO is going to be a pk-fest with no real prospect of playing in peace & have fun.
EQ came along and there was no more need to subject to bad player behavior.
I can't recall anything from my time spent playing MMOs....but man...Atari 2600 days...early 80's...I must have gone through 10 joysticks b/c of their lack of aerodynamic properties....Those things were easy enough to break with normal play... Fortunately...they started to sell the white plastic "skeleton" for the joysticks...it was the internal part which usually broke ... which were much cheaper than a whole new joystick and easier to replace.Got 2 per pack I believe........sorry for this grandpa-esque "back in the day" reply.
It can be about any game, once while I was playing Super Mario Bros 2 and nearing the end of the game but I was tired so went to bed left it on all night long (can't save the game in this version of super mario bros) and the next morning my kid brother comes in and turns the console off cuz he wanted to play duck hunt...

I remember saving up 13M GP to buy my shiny new Guthan's set in Runescape. I died to lag within a week of that (took me 2-3 months to save up the money and I lost the Spear, worth half the set). I quit for a long while after that.
I was playing UO and my computer froze up. By the time I logged back in, I had been PK'd and looted. I logged out and never went back.
Luckily, I went to EQ, where I stayed for many years.
I was a small-time player... a MMORPG novice and struggling mightily to learn how to play and to succeed. I *kind of* understood UO and was progressing in it (albeit slowly)... I had met a friendly guild, finally had some decent armor, and was having fun.
The fateful day that I quit came when I was deep in a dungeon/cave close to Yew. I had been doing a smashing job killing Golems (?) and filling my pack with precious stones and other loot. It was more wealth and money than I had managed to scrape together in one place before.
Eventually, my GM armor was showing need of repair, and my weapons were wearing down. I decided to make my way back to civilization to bank my goods and repair my wares. As I traveled, I think my account lagged out (or something of that sort) and a PK'er made easy pickings of my helpless avatar.
When I finally managed to log back in, my corpse was looted and desecrated. I made a point of rezzing myself and attacking the PKer over and over again just to annoy them... then, out of disgust, I hoofed it back to town and took everything I had out of the bank, threw it in my guild's hall in case they could use any of the junk... then canceled my account in disgust.
I really liked UO, too. Enjoyed being a tailor most of all, and trying to play the game as a healer who used bandages. I sucked, but it was fun and my first taste of that type of gaming. I know it was very carebear of me to quit, but it just stopped being fun when so many hours of gameplay could be negated like that. At least that's how I thought back then...
I think the worst part of your whole scenario is that it was all because of "Duck Hunt"....ouch. I would have slapped my brother silly....just for playing that game.

you don't drop gear when killed by a player if you aren't red. you only drop gear when red (killed by anyone) or when killed by a mob (white red or purple).
Everything creates huge amounts of negativity on the internet, that's what the internet is for: Negativity, porn and lolcats.
