Will i have any big problems with drivers now , or are they all sorted ? . Im also running 2 monitors and SLI , will i have any problems with this set up if i was to use Vista ?

Sorry if this is the wrong place to bring this topic up :( . I just dont understand PC's all i do is play games :)

WELL acualy I belive by AUG or SEP Microsoft will NO longer be SUPPORTING XP. VISTA 64 is not a BAD choice. BUT I would wait for WINDOWS 7 and run it in 64 bit for BEST results.

Vista is the crappiest operating system ever made by Microsoft.

Ive checked windows xp site and it says there ,

And another reminder; we're not "pulling the plug" on Windows XP. Although Windows XP won't be sold in stores, Microsoft and its partners will continue to offer technical support for Windows XP for months and years to come. In fact, Microsoft plans to support Windows XP until April 2014.

so i guess i have a bit of time lol

Because of the sheer number of complaints on vista, and many techs refusing to support it, Microsoft said they were continuing support for XP. No, it is not worth it to switch to vista, but it is worth it to switch from vista to xp. I have removed vista from all of my systems because it was a terrible program.

Well, I tend to make the switch in slow stages with plenty of backup.  I did a dual boot setup with 32-bit XP, and a 64-bit XP, until I knew I could trust the 64 bit.  Once I felt comfortable with it, and knew my programs and drivers worked fine, I then removed the 32 bit version -- this took a few months.  I then added a 64-bit Vista alongside the 64-bit XP, and, a few months later, I am now running 64-bit Vista only.  No issues.  No problems.  I have lost two programs that I once enjoyed:  an older version of Adobe Acrobat (which I have since updated), and Soldier of Fortune II (which I could get to work, but haven't put the effort into).

I've seen performance increases in most games that I play: Warhammer Online, Team Fortress 2, Sins of a Solar Empire, etc.

I've had zero problems finding drivers for all of my hardware: X-fi Titanium Fatal1ty, Nostromo N52te, Microsoft Sidewinder Keyboard (duh, of course they would support it), gtx 275 video card, etc etc.  Even Rivatuner runs nice.

So, if you're careful like me, I think you'll be happy with the results -- and can soon wean yourself off of older versions of Microsoft.  When 7 arrives, and I get ahold of a nice cheap educational version (picked up vista 64 for 20 bucks through a school), then I'll do a dual boot until I feel comfortable enough to eliminate vista.

Hope this helps.  I know a lot of people are hard on Vista, but it's been years now, and it really is a pretty solid platform for the most part.  Just look up ways to make it less annoying with the user control crap.  I spent a few minutes to disable most of it and it made the experience much nicer.  There are also several nice programs out there to streamline the interface as well: Stardocks Fences, for example.

According to the techs here at TI and GE, they refuse to use vista because it is crappy software.  It will be short lived like "ME" remember that joke?

There is no reason to use XP over Vista now, really. For the home user, at least.

A majority of the complaints about Vista were either due to peoples' unwillingness to change, various bugs that impacted performance (which have since been fixed), and general snowball-effect type word of mouth.

I ran an XP machine and a Vista machine for a while. After getting acquainted with Vista, I upgraded my XP machine to Vista as well.

Edit: It will be short-lived either way. Windows 7 is approaching its release (sometime within a year) and it's apparently the holy grail of Operating Systems. I believe I heard something about a free upgrade program from Microsoft, though, allowing you to get a free or discounted copy of Windows 7 if you purchased Vista within a certain time period. Don't quote me on that, though.

Those same techs also said the same thing when XP came out and they were running 95 or 98, if they were even working at that point.  The only difference here is Microsoft is pouring the amount of money into Vista to make it workable like they did with XP.  They just jumped ship and started on 7.

I have yet to see the crappiness.  A few tweaks (to avoid annoyances, not glitches) and it is solid for me.  I know the IT Department at my company has the same feelings (disgust and hatred) about it, but I doubt they have much experience with it.  I think people are running on an impression, not facts.  Maybe it is "cool" to hate Vista? Who knows.  But I see no comparison to ME.

I'm glad I waited a while to move into Vista, but see no reason to hold out now. Dual boot ftw?

If you can hold out Id wait for Windows 7.

It looks to be the Next XP asfar as Microsoft OS's go.

Vista is Fine and Good but it sure aint great. So unless you NEED to update I wouldent.

    Vista works fine.

The only people who bash Vista are the ones who used it in Beta, and haven't used it since, or people who have heard it sucks but have never used it.

If you have XP stick with it. Vista is just XP with some flashy bling.

Don't be terrorized! You're more likely to die of a car accident, drowning, fire, or murder! More people die every year from prescription drugs than terrorism LOL!

If you already have XP then I don't really see a strong need unless you want to use a specific feature that Vista has.  if you are building a system from the ground up, then yes, I would recommend one of the iterations of 64 bit vista (assuming you want to run more than 3 gigs of ram)

ps.  I am speaking from the perspective of someone who actually uses and likes vista...I simply don't see a need to upgrade from it if you are already using xp.

Your argument is like a two legged dog with an eating disorder...weak and unbalanced.

Well as long as your half computer savy, you could go grab the windows 7 beta for free right now, and if you didn't like it go back to xp. I've experimented with many different operting systems, and I've found that 7 isn't that bad, in fact while my video card would crash form playing mass effect in xp, I can play it almost flawlessly now!

Yes.  I've used Vista as my main OS since before the RC was even released and it's the digital equivalent of an orgasim.  It gets a lot of complaints from people that want something to blame for not knowing how to use a computer, or just hate it for daring to exist, but it's super stable and runs quite well as long as you don't do anything stupid with it.  I especially laugh at the people that hate Vista and love the 7 beta since they are 90% the same OS
