I think the idea they are going for with pvp is the pre-Trammel UO idea: You are safe in cities and towns, possibly dungeons I haven't checked but anywhere else is fair-game (wildy, basically) but you get neg-rep for PKing which makes you unfriendly to the guards.
And yes the combat is essentially the same as Runescape (red/blue blobs etc)

But with Runescape you actually have to get close to hit them unless you're using ranged weapons. In this you just click from anywhere on the screen and you "hit" them no matter what. I ran into a zone with 3 high level aggros (who I didn't know were agressive at the time) and all of them hit me and I try to run and they keep hitting me no matter where I went. Even when I'm fighting something my level and it gets me to mid-low health and I try to run it still hits me no matter how far I run. So is that a bug or is that actually how the gameplay is supposed to be? I don't hate unforgiving gameplay, but this is just ridiculous.
Like I said they were going for the gameplay of the old mmos of the mid,late-nineties, but those MMOs are still up and way better; an example would be Dransik a.k.a. "Ashen Empires" nowadays and even newer mmos like Conquer online have the same pvp (everywhere else is fair game except cities and you get neg-rep). And I'm sure those have better fan bases. I know people like the accessible browser based games, but there's no reason to settle on this. I'm sure if someone just looked they'd find a free indie browser mmo that already has alot of people playing and is better.
FYI Mobs with red names are aggro (IE WOW) and you need to be within their aggro radius for them to hit you (IE WOW)
And yes you can attack any mob within sight, but your character does move up to it to attack it... I'm guessing this was a design decision to save you the effort of manuevering towards a mob before you can attack it.
I'm sure if someone just looked they'd find a free indie browser mmo that already has alot of people playing and is better.
You'll not find a better browser MMO than Eternum, no way. As far as I'm aware (excluding Java, flash, plugin etc games like Runescape/Freerealms) Eternum is the only one that actually has proper graphics (I'm looking at you Estiah, Lands of Hope etc). In fact, I'd say 80-90% of the browser "MMORPGs" out there at the moment are nothing more than text-based management/link spamming games, they just use the term "MMORPG" as a marketing ploy.
We had text-based RPGs before the MMO genre, they were called MUDs.
We had management games too, they were called strategy games, not RPGs.

I'm guessing the red text part was you going on a rant about the crappy "Myspace" type of games of today and not about anything I said. What can I say? In today's "Casual" market, most things are a deformed shell of what it used to be. There were also the games without strategy (Kingdom of Loathing FTW!!!) that were just turn-based, character building games.
Even though it might not be some of you guy's tastes, interms of upcoming MMORPGs I would check out "zOMG!". Its browser based and its graphics are 100x better than Eternum or Runescape, in terms of gameplay its more along the lines of "Fusion Fall" (another decent, but Kiddy browser mmo). I heard "AdventureQuest Worlds" was good as well, but I don't know if they have a grouping system cause I haven't played it.
I remember looking for a good browser based game (that already has been released) myself last year and I had a few names lined up, but never got to play them and eventually forgot about them. So I'll check on those and get back to you as to whether or not they are good.

I just checked out zOmg, looks like it runs in shockwave/java so comparing it to an HTML game like Eternum is kinda unfair. Also I'm not sure if it beats Runescape's 3d environments graphically.
As for Adventure Quest... that game is a joke. It's essentially a single player flash game that calls itself an MMORPG.

May have to tell my friend about this, hes a huge runescape player. has like the best armor in the game and crap... he cant play high graphic games and his internet sucks. so ya. thx for the details
All the runescape players who are going to Eternum are not the vital members of the community anyway, so those saying Eternum will kill Runescape don't know what they're talking about.
Yes, it gives Jagex healthy competition, but that just gives them further reason to improve the game for us loyal players. Those of us who LIKE the new changes they make see this as a good thing. Example: Jagex kills wildy, PKers flee to Eternum, good riddance.
Change is not always bad, and you can't just flee to another game everytime a decision is made you disagree with.

The Runescape "community" is what ruins it. If RS players are indeed migrating to Eternum then ironically it will be Eternum that is killed... by Runescape's shitty community.

Currently Playing: MapleStory
Have Played: RuneScape, Guild Wars, WoW.
Waiting For: Guild Wars 2
May have to tell my friend about this, hes a huge runescape player. has like the best armor in the game and crap... he cant play high graphic games and his internet sucks. so ya. thx for the details
Played it for all of about 10 minutes and threw up. Seriously, this was epic fail. Even people who play Runescape would think this is epic fail.
Of course you did...
Do not feed the troll.
Close, but I think we know which ones better in graphics..
