I have just built a new computer.

Here are the main components.

GIGABYTE GA-MA770-UD3 AM2+/AM2 AMD 770 ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail47411944 (N82E16813128376)

AMD Phenom 9600 Agena 2.3GHz Socket AM2+ 95W Quad-Core Processor Model HD960ZWCGDBOX - Retail47411944 (N82E16819103244)

hec X-Power Pro 600 600W Continuous @ 40°C ATX12V V2.2 SLI Ready CrossFire Ready Power Supply - Retail47411944 (N82E16817339025)

MSI R4870-MD1G Radeon HD 4870 1GB 256-bit GDDR5 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card - Retail47411944 (N82E16814127413)

My problem is when I get into EQ2 I am setting the graphics on Exteme Quality and getting only 14-16 FPS, on a 1900 x 1200 res. When I had my dual core 4200 and 8800 I was getting the same thing. I do have all of the drivers upgraded and Vista also, I do not have the Vista SP2 beta, but I did on my old system.

I am wondering if any of you have had problems with the 4870 or maybe the AMD 9600 Quad.

I do not have any problems with Crysis or Far Cry 2, just EQ2.

I'm not much of a hardware person, I have my little brother slave away building my machines for me, haha, but if you turn the shadows off does it improve the frames at all? I just use he sticky guide at the top of the forums for getting my settings configured and on most of the computers I've ran EQ2 on it's worked fine.

Yes, shadows are off and lighting is turned down, no improvement!

I remember seeing some people with problems on Phenom machines. Look around in the forums and you might find some. That is extremely wierd, however, because I own an Athlon 64 3500+ 2,2Ghz, 2GB RAM and a GeForce 6600 and I got around 20 FPS on extreme quality with shadows turned off. Do you have multi-core support turned on?

I did turn the multicore on . I have done several layouts on EQ2 and nothing seems to be working. You could be correct that it might be the Phenom. I was just looking to see if others had this problem before I start delving deep into it. But thanks....

Read this guide and try tweaking some things out on your options, should increase the performance some. http://www.nvnews.net/articles/everquest_2_graphics/index.shtml

You didn't choose a very good Phenom core. Yes, its Agena, but its not as good as the Phenom II. You can play it on medium or maybe high settings (if you're lucky) but not even remotely touch the extreme settings.

I got it, it was in CMOS/Bios. Now I am getting around 20-69 FPS (so far) on Extreme Quality. Thanks for the replies!
