DF is one of the few MMO's that I've done crafting in.  However, I would say that it's not because it's particularly innovative.  It's actually more the opposite.  It's overwhealmingly simplistic, which I like.  The good thing is that crafting can also raise your other skills, and crafted items are better than drop items, which gives a greater feeling of reward.  Plus almost everything in the game can be crafted, so I don't feel like I need to go do a 40 man dungeon to get the leet loot, I just have to grind up crafting a bit.

There is a grind as you have to gather the materials for things.  Again, it's grindy, but they did implement a recent change to make gathering one click to empty a node.  So you don't have to continuously click on the node every 10 seconds.  That helps a lot.  The other thing that's good about gathering is that it can raise other player stats that are useful in combat.  So again, you don't feel as if you are gimping yourself as much if you spend time gathering.

The world is large and there are lots of areas to explore, but other than that, there is a severe lack of pve content to fill the time when you are not pvping.  If anything, I think the lack of other things to do other than pvp is one of the biggest flaws of the game.  It doesn't even necessarily need to be pve content, they could implement pvp content, such as player contracted bounties, or spend a little more time to make the economy more robust like it is in EVE.  If they did something as simple as localize banking, it would make people go out more, maybe have the affect of creating caravan routes, and players hiring guards to protect them while transporting goods.

That said, I would keep an eye on the next few patches to see if they implement more content.  If they did, it would resolve most of the issues that people complain about.

Crafting in Darkfall is quite simple. However it is exceedingly neccesary. In fact, it is the main way players get equiped (as opposed to quests/pve hunting/raiding etc. Nearly everyone has to become a crafter. If your not a crafter then you better find friends who are.

The game falls flat in what to do when not PvPing. Fact is, aside from crafting your options are limited. Its nice to explore this huge world..but the world itself is sparsly populated.

In the end, Darkfall has a edge of excitement and danger that WAR doesnt have. However, if you like finely polished MMOs ..this game is not the one for you.

    Good luck
