Riding the rides of the theme park is fun for a while.
Then you realize you'd rather MAKE rides than just ride in them. Over and over ad nauseum.
I totally agree though, WoW is a very well polished well put together game, so is Cedar Pointe, after a while though I'm tired of going to cedar pointe every day.
You can only ride the magnum force so many times before its blah.
Tie me to a wooden post and set me ablaze of you will, but I....Like...WoW... I've only been playing for like a week so I can't say too much, and I'm obviously no expert, but from the time I started playing I could already tell I would be in this game for a while to come... Like everyone says, it is just pollished so fucking nicely...It's super smooth, everything is in sync and just goes great...it's no wonder so many people play this game...I mean I love the story behind LotRO much more that WoW, but Wow is just sooooo accessible.....I am hooked already.....It really is a great game and it's obvious why millions sub.... So yea...I realize I am going to get flamed...FUCK YOU.......flame me and WoW all you will.....WAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Which MMO's are not themeparks these days though? And which of those that aren't are any good?
Blizzard was always known for their solid User Interfaces, sound FX and character animations. These things do matter quite a lot. Too bad, that many, many game companies out there STILL do underestimate the value of them. The "Joy Of Use" (see http://ceodaily.wordpress.com/2008/02/14/usability-and-joy-of-use/ for example) is so important. But yeah, decision makers quite often do not understand the impact of it. How should they - always looking at their Excel spreadsheets
Good for you. I got a level 50 something hunter and purchased Burning Crusade before the sheer little kiddyness feeling set in for good on me. I agree it is accessible but I won't pay 15 bucks a month for something that looks like a little kids game , I like a more real, mature setting. Have fun bud!
LOL I tried to play this game so many times because family plays but its just so boring to me. Didn't make it past level 45 before I realized all the game is about is soloing quests. Then grouping up for an hour or so to get the gear you need then everyone splits like a bunch of cockroaches when the light is switched on.
The only time people actually talk in the game is when your in Org and they are just all BSing on Trade chat for some odd reason. Or someone is bitching at you in the game. No Roleplaying what so ever on the game, it may have been my server cuz it was a PvP server.
This is entirely untrue if you're on a PvE server and in a guild.
What you mentioned about finding groups to run instances, however, is pretty much still a problem, which does sort of force more solo play under level say....70 (at least)....than what most MMO gamers would generally prefer. Once you hit 70 or so (and definitely at 80) there's still TONS of activity, grouping, raiding, dailies, conversation, "parties", etc. at least on the two servers that I have characters on. I've been playing since release, and while I no longer log in EVERY DAY to play......I DO still enjoy the game and play it a few times a week.
I think servers, to a degree, sort of come with their own personalities. Some of them are very upbeat and friendly, and others....perhaps not so much. It really depends on the people on the server, of course, and WHY they're playing. I would think PvP servers, because of the competitive nature of them, would probably BE a bit less social in a friendly sort of way. LOL
Wow...some people are like vultures flying around a hopeless in the desert, just waiting for it to die so they can swoop in to pick the remains off of the carcass....hahaha... Don't some of you have anything better to do besides checking the WoW forums for someone to post something so you can attack the game... I have an idea....just a thought, but why don't you go to the forums of some game you like and help a noob out by answering some questions or giving advice like the "ever so terrible" WoW community did for me... pffft...
Wow won't die any time soon.
It will just go on year after year, because new players are always brought in and old ones come back. Just waiting for a new mmorpg to be build by Blizzard.
-------> I learned something again in this thread. One of the more notorious Wow critics (above) admitted he only played to level 45, which shows the man doesn't know anything about Wow 2009. Giving in to my theories that there are only two Wow forum complainers.
------
Those who simply played MUCH too long (2-3 years with no breaks in controlled playing time) and those who just didn't experience all of its present day game mechanics.
Of course when someone with an open mind comes to the game he/she is mostly is surprised with Wow. But wait till you see its end game techniques introduced the last 2 years and you'll see what Blizzard is capable of compared to the recently launched competition.
Have fun.
Well, I'll confess, I stopped playing WOW just before the release of TBC, however my son kept playing through the next two expansions and through observing him, this still seems to be true:
1) WOW is still a level based, quest driven linear game experience. Nothing much has changed with that. (understandably, its the game's namesake)
2) Raids are smaller, and many (not all) are easier and more accessible to the average player. But the end game mechanic is still heavily designed towards having players run the same raids multiple times in the hope of getting a gear drop they can use.
3) The games primary PVP modes are still Areanas and Battlegrounds (two avenues I abhor) though i will grant the new PVP zone is a big improvement. Still, there is no risk vs reward, no real penalty for dying in PVP, and no real incentive to try and stay alive in a fight, its just kill as many as you can before you drop, rinse and repeat.
4) There's no player/guild housing, a quibble perhaps, crafting is OK, but not truly necessary, best gear comes from drops (a modern plague in most games I'm afraid) and other niceties that make a game more of a virtual world.
It was the games core game play and design that I grew weary of and the reason I moved on is that it was never going to change, and it wasn't what i was looking for in my games.
I'm not saying that this makes WOW a bad game, I had a great time when I played it, but all games must come to an end one day (for each player) and I just reached my limit a long time ago.

That's a nice post and very true.
It's a shame you didn't enjoy PVP more because if you play with people who understand the tactics in each BG, it can be a great strategic expirience, too bad that happens oh so rarely. Still, no penalty or much risk but that's not really the point.
As for arenas, yeah, that's really love / hate affair.

Originally posted by Zorndorf ----- It is handy to fall back to your son to gain reputation of WotLK knowledge. But the fact is ...you don't have any. You simply don't play the game and can't even cite details from the game. - I'm fairly certain the 3 items I raised in my original post are still quite true, regardless whether I'm playing the game or not. Point out to me where i was in error? as for meaningful PvP: here it is Kyle.. it just shows the meaning of PvP in Wow:---> ------- Alas, they block graphic images here at the office, so not quite sure what you've posted. No matter, was probably not useful to the discussion. "WOW's PvP mechanics completely destroy every other MMO out there currently. - You think? I always thought DAOC's were far superior, but like you said, maybe today that's changed, but not from what I've observed. Thats what I find fun. Crisp responsive controls. I don't need to OWN something, build something or guard something to have fun.
If the fight is fun, its just fun. - Now see, that's where I differ, i do need to own something, build something or defend something to be fun. Or I need to be able to take something of value from you and put it into your face.
I don't NEED PvP to mean something to have fun in it. Besides, when playing on a PvP server it does MEAN something. It means the difference between questing and not questing, since you can force someone out of the zone you're in.
If they can't kill anything they can't play and have to move elsewhere. And Lake Wintergrasp does this on a grand scale for the next few hours ! (including dungeon drops).
How is that not meaningful? " I'll give you an example. My son and I are currently playing ROM, which is very WOW-like in its controls and mechanics. But where it excels (on the PVP server) is that when we wreck a red player of similar level, we sometimes take his gear. We've killed 10 similar level reds in the past two nights, and got good drops 3 times. These reds have gone on to QQ in Zone chat ( a huge win for us) about how unfair it is that the two of us destroy them (its really all my son, I'm just a distraction to them while he's the true killer). As we tell them, when gear is on the line, there is no fair, there's just win or lose. And we aim to win.
------ As for PvP: open wold PvP is very much alive in Wolk. Both in daily quests and it is even TOO succesful in Lake Wintergrasp. - Yeah but to what purpose. They kill you, you kill them, no one loses anything but a very small amount of time. I guess that's fine if you enjoy that, i don't. Different wiring. Ignoring such features as phasing, destructable Keeps, personal crafted flying mounts and mounted combat mechanics while talking of "player houses" (!?!?!?) shows your bias AGAINST "the" game, isn't it? Actually, as you pointed out, I 've seen those features, not really experienced them, and did not comment on their worth since I have no experience in them. Not saying they aren't great features, but certainly not what my 3 points addressed which I still want in my games, and WOW doesn't have. (you still looking that up for me?) Perhaps such "details" show indeed you're no longer playing the game which changed a LOT since you left. Never said it didn't change a lot, just pointed out it did not change in key gameplay areas (for me) so that's why i won't return.. (nor am I asking the game to do so, not everyone enjoys games the same way as i do) Explain the badge system, explain the reputation changes, explain the dual specs changes. You can't. yeah, actually I could explain the dual specs,ROM's dual character classes are better IMO) but again, my response wasn't about how WOW has changed, but more focused on where it has not. (and can not) You are no longer inthe game and didn't see all these changes that have a tremendous impact on its mechanics (like getting PvP gear with PVE badges...). I agree with you completely, still doesn't change my 3 points. It is the EVOLUTION you miss.... and you still can't help posting in a Wow forum without the proper knowledge. I had more than enough knowledge to post what i did, and made no slams against the new features the game now has. I think they are terrific, but again, none of that makes the PVP, leveling system, and other factors I raise any better, hence I don't see WOW being any better for me. Have another seat in EVE. Oh, sorry you can't leave the original seat... Curious that didn't change much did it ? Missed your point with this remark. I do enjoy playing EVE, for different reasons and after 2 years still going strong. But this is not an EVE discussion so I won't bring anything else up about it.
Had to pare down the thread some, was getting unwieldy. Of course I'm going to post in a WOW thread, look at my post count, posting is what I do.

Get back to us after doing the same thing for 4 years straight.
WoW needs more choices, options, and ways to personalize YOUR character.
Also, rolling alts and going through the exact same content in the limited 5 starting zones = hellaciously boring, imho. Sure, the first 5-10 levels aren't that bad, but I hit some type of 'wall' when I get to mid-20's. I really do. I just get bored as hell and just wish I could skip to 80 already.
I sincerely expected 'more' from WotLK expansion. A new race for each faction would've been nice... no, DK doesn't count.
Oh, how I love all of you...So I got the wood for the burning and I even threw some lighter fluid on it haha... There was a point in time, not too long ago, when I doubted WoW...thought I'd never play, thought it was over rated, etc. During that time I played a few games, some good, some not so good...I never found one that kept me hooked for too long besides FFXI...I grew really bored with everything else, so I thought why not try WoW...it wouldn't hurt right? I knew how many people on this site hated the game...I knew I was gonna get flamed, okay...so what? I wanted to let everyone know, well, mostly just the haters, that I, someone who had his doubts, tried it and liked it...some of you people are quite immature and I woulndn't be surprised if you were older than myself... It's like you people can't take the fact that people like the game...I'm a casual player of MMOs, and WoW is casual friendly, not bad to look at, and it's pretty fun...it's just funny how it eats away at some of you whenever someone makes posts like these hahaha...
Ok well I give you kudos on getting some of the points on my post, i appreciate it. Although you missed the other rather large point. By calling people immature for replying to a drama filled post is a bit...hypocritical, dont you think? I understand where you are comming from but to a point as you want to let people know who havent played the game before that its not horrible and I agree if you have never played WoW you deffinitly should. If you havent played it before then you really have no right to an opinion on the game. To be honest if you havent got to atleast level 20 before you dont have an opinion. I will understand that, but what you dont understand is 90% of the people that are on here have played the game for 1 year+ and we have legit reasons for disliking it. I'm not trolling forums I breeze through mmorpg.com forums every day because i enjoy conversation with people that enjoy what I enjoy...imagine that? I really dont believe i'm not being civil about this, I think like I stated above you just came to the site and posted looking for drama and hate and well...you got it. Enjoy

I don't understand the object behind this type of play to be honest. PvP is either fun or it isn't. If the combat is bad, the scenery is restrictive to fighting or any number of other things that can make the actual combat less enjoyable, why would causing lose to your oponent make it better?
I've found that causing personal loss to enemies (looting, etc) actually degrades much of the combat. People get to concerned about lose and take extreme measures to avoid it. Not through better combat, but cheating, running away, avoiding combat all together. Seeing people run around naked to avoid lose is a game buster for me. Penalize gameplay enough and it just brings out the worst in players. Either cowardice or cruelty.
I find the combat far more enjoyable when the most important thing on the line is victory or defeat. Some artificial tax on my bank account or risking items doesn't make the actual fighting any more enjoyable.

Most people started playing video games when they were tired of WATCHING TV. They want to have an effect on something, to have control.
WoW is like watching TV.
After you've seen all the reruns a few times your done watching it.
No there arn't any sandboxy games out there any more. People like TV, thats why its so successful.
Your right, I personally want to PLAY a game not just WATCH it.
I am not saying TV isn't fun, or that WoW isn't fun, it just doesn't keep anyones attention after they've done endgame for so long because your not really controling anything, your just watching the story unfold.
You know what was fun? When GM's made quests live, when they invented things on the spot and players had to figure out the story.
Oh, how I love all of you...So I got the wood for the burning and I even threw some lighter fluid on it haha... Ya know, I see how much hate people give this game, and I don't think it deserves it...
I didn't come to MMORPG.com looking for drama of any sort, I came because I wanted to find a kinship for LotRO hahaha...but, I knew what would happen when I created this thread, but that wasn't the reason I did it...not at all...I have started several threads, I had pleasant conversations in other threads, like I said, I wanted to state how I felt about the game...if you are implying that I am a troll, just check my past posts, I'm no troll, friend...
This was my first thread of this sort, if people don't like it, well, I don't know what to say...
PLAYING: NOTHING!!! PLAYED:FFXI, LotRO, AoC, WAR, DDO, Megaten, Wurm, Rohan, Mabinogi, RoM
this is my third post...i would state my opinion, but the mods have decided to not let me....even tho it's not HALF as harsh as what you guys are saying to eachother....too bad they deleted them, i had some valid points

Im sorry to say, but telling everyone that you're playing wow doesnt make you cool
Yet some people think posting one liners about wow makes them cool. Strange isn't it?
And some of us are mature enough that we don't CARE about appearing "cool."
I say if you enjoy a game....PLAY IT. Who gives a rat's ass what anyone ELSE thinks or says about it?

Get back to us after doing the same thing for 4 years straight.
WoW needs more choices, options, and ways to personalize YOUR character.
Also, rolling alts and going through the exact same content in the limited 5 starting zones = hellaciously boring, imho. Sure, the first 5-10 levels aren't that bad, but I hit some type of 'wall' when I get to mid-20's. I really do. I just get bored as hell and just wish I could skip to 80 already.
I sincerely expected 'more' from WotLK expansion. A new race for each faction would've been nice... no, DK doesn't count.
You mean you yourself realized. Not everyone and probably most people won't share that sentiment. I like both styles.
D&D Style, with a dungeon master.
Thats replay value.

WAITING FOR: Dust 514
this is my third post...i would state my opinion, but the mods have decided to not let me....even tho it's not HALF as harsh as what you guys are saying to eachother....too bad they deleted them, i had some valid points
