I'm surprised no one spun this saying the game is a sandbox and you are suppose to be able to do anything. The proof is someone was able to steal and fly a ship. This is the best sandbox ever!
dude... i want to fly a city...
how do i do it.... damn this sandbox... it'd best let me do it~!!
could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?

Paragus1's clan city is on a floating rock. Sounds like a great place to start LOL

Did you ever think of trying to kill that guy that just jumped on your ship? Just wondering it looked like you just didnt care he jumped abored. But that was funny it was like some David Copperfield shit, it litteraly vanished beneth your feet. I have never seen any game that has had that crazy of hacks.
He no cliped into the ship he did not "jump on it"
And then he teleported himself and the ship out
Who was the person around 1:48 with a bow jumping onto the ship then? I thought that was who ninja swiped the ship.

That's what it looked like to me, too. It looked like he jumped out of the water over the side of the ship. I also wondered why nobody attacked him.

I hope Tasos and crew realize this does more damage to the game than any 2/10 review out there.
If they cannot acknowledge this, they are beyond help.
According to this thread, it's been at least 24 hours since the information was made public. I've yet to see a dev response to it.

i wonder if that thread will magically disappear.
it would be too funny if a "reviewer" was present when all that happened.
who is the person that did it? cuz i believe stasis is fighting cactus... don't think any goons are in stasis.

so many people requesting darth post in this thread. he somehow managed to make his way to the hacker thread, and claim that he has never seen a hacker in DF ;p so i doubt he'll be around here.
Everything creates huge amounts of negativity on the internet, that's what the internet is for: Negativity, porn and lolcats.
All games have bugs. But they are visual bugs. You get some weird graphic error on your client, but the server still 'sees' things as they are meant to be. For instance, there is a hack for WOW that allows you to change your stats on your character screen. But in the end, it is worthless because the server still computes things with your 'real' skills. You can also 'replace' the graphic for your weapon to be a cooler weapon, but the stats can't be affected. The reason is because most of the computations and gameplay is run server-side.
Darkfall, in an attempt to allow 10k players per server, absolutely minimized that amount of computations going on on their servers. Almost everything is done on your computer (client) and then your computer tells the server what happened. This is why it is amazingly easy to have real gameplay hacks with Darkfall. It's all about their attempt to get 10k players on a single server. the same reason there are so few mobs in the game (the require server power).
The hacks in most real MMORPGs are simply cosmetic changes that other players can never see. This ship theft is all about DF's crazy client-side programming.
Also to note, this stuff can never be fixed. They may be able to track hacks like this one, but they will never be able to keep up with other hacks that will be easily introduced. The hacks in Darkfall will just keep getting more and more 'signficant' as the coders learn how to adjust more things. the only way Darkfall can recover is if they rewrite both the client and server to make more calculations server-side.

Doesn't look like it's been resolved yet, according to the official boards. There definitely hasn't been any public dev response, which is unfortunate, since the issue has been made public.

Pretty typical response from AV.

You just wait. I'm sure Tasos will post a whine thread complaining to Youtube for bringing the game down by allowing the advertisement of "isolated incidents", and that DF is a niche game, and there's nothing like it.
Just so you know, I called it.

They can't fix it without completely redesigning the game. When you put processing on the client you open yourself to this kind of attack. Nothing will stop it, and bans aren't sufficient to stop its abuse.

and honestly it really sucks. because there are a few things that darkfall had that many people have been really REALLY looking foward to. like the ship that got hacked. its too bad they did such a bad job with the rest of the game that it just doesn't feel worth playing to get to the features I'd love to see in every MMO I play.

If it's really the case that the issue is something as fundamental as the way they have coded the game to process 90% of stuff client-side, then that right there is gonna be the final nail in DF's coffin.
Forget bad graphics, repetetive gameplay, or any of the myriad (and perfectly valid) complaints about the game, that alone should be enough to A) put prospective buyers off, and convince even the most rabid fanboy that the game is fundamentally flawed.
I agree that it's a shame, DF could have been very, very good, if it wasn't so very, very bad....
