Originally posted by maxy1214 I have read good reviews from players so far. But what they like in common is the graphics. Is there more to it? I have played Aion China, and have a level 30+ character plus 2 20+ characters of other jobs. I really wanted to like this game but there is something in me that is not attracted to it. 1. There is no swimming. 2. There is no mount. I hate running. 3. PvP Aerial combat is they say unbalanced. (not sure, some say Archers rule in aerial combat) 4. Less diversity in skills. Youll just have to level up the same skills as they have a different name the next time you upgrade it. You gain SOME as you level up. Like 3 new skills in 8 levels. And some of these new skills are passives which you cant use. 5. The environment and area is SMALL. The paths you go to is linear that if 5 of your friends go together the path looks crowded. You cant fly to the other side to reach your destination faster. (Funny as this is a flying MMO). Houses are small you cant enter it. It is there just for props. 6. No penalty in ganking lowbies. And yes you can farm each other using KISKS to give you abyss points if you have friends on the opposing side. 7. Not much skin. Ive heard the mobs youll be fighting at level 20 will be the same ones youll be fighting at 40 but they just comes in different colors. I think i notice this too. OMG, cant even produce enough skin, and this was supposed to be a big budget game. I love to say this. This game got KOREANED. Im not gonna talk about grinding. Because the chinese version is different as they say than the NA/EU version. Its supposed to be catered to western gameplay. Although Ive spent 5 levels just grinding because the quests dont really give much XP. Grinding the same mobs over and over again. The same skinned mob but with a different color. Ok fanbois defend the game. So much HYPE and theres not much content. They say its polished but there aint much to it. Less content and features = less bugs and imbalances.
The fact is that some of that stuff can be easily fixed with an update, which may take 2 weeks. No biggy. Another thing to consider is that some of the content in the Chinese Beta is going to be different than the EU/US releases. Not all of that could stay the same.
I don't hate it. It is fine by me that others don't like it. I personally hope that most of the WoW people stay away from it, so they don't ruin the community
Originally posted by toddze My argument holds alot of weight because the fact is your playing a version not meant for you, and no one in NA/EU can argue that. You can downplay that little fact all you want but it still is there. You can speculate things wont change much just as a aion fan could speculate that it could, but its just that: speculation.
it is obvious that the releases in korea and china aren't meant for us, but that does not mean that their similarity to the future product we will receive is not immensely high. there is simply no good reason to believe that much of anything apart from language will change until eu/na release, there has neither been any specific mentioning of such a thing, nor has there been a case in mmorpg history when this happened. yes it hasn't released here yet so it is speculation, but there is such a thing as predictions and those can be strikingly close to reality.
just bringing up the fact that something is a prediction is not an argument against the prediction itself, it's simply avoiding the discussion, which is an odd thing to do on a forum.
From what I have seen so far I think the game is great. One thing I don't like though is the fact that you can't fly in all the areas. But somehow you can still glide if you jump off a hill...
Another thing that could use some improvement is making macros. you have to do trial and error to get your timing right unless i'm missing something.
I can't understand why its so hard for people to READ and UNDERSTAND what they read.

You are missing something. There is a micro option, snoop around the UI and you will find it.
Velika: City of Wheels: Among the mortal races, the humans were the only one that never built cities or great empires; a curse laid upon them by their creator, Gidd, forced them to wander as nomads for twenty centuries...
i know theres a macro option but getting ur /Delay macros for the right amount of time is kind of tedious.
Go to aionsource. they have a thread going that solves this.

Just for the sake of arguing (because I don't hate Aion)... But if this game is about Angels vs Demons at it's core, what side will the Athiests fall on in this game?
Angels vs Demons? no.. there are no angels and demons. If you read like 2sentences about the lore of the game you'll know this isn't a war between good and evil.

Real life religion really doesn't have any place in a fantasy game. You could say the setting is inspired by myth that is familiar to popular religion but in Aion's lore itself it's a bit more complicated then that.

Well, everything but 1 and 2 are reasonable given a person's taste. I suppose 1 & 2 are also except I don't buy it.
It's like playing a ww I game and complaining that there are no jets.
You don't need mounts nor do you need to swim. Why would a creature that can take to the skies need a mount? As far as swimming, I'm not sure why that is needed.
But I'll have to see the release NA version to know whether there is polish or not. I keep hearing there is so I'm not sure why the discrepancy.
Like Skyrim? Need more content? Try my Skyrim mod "Godfred's Tomb."
On the topic. I played aion and I dont like it because its exactly like world of warcraft just alot of stuff added and moved around but exact same friggin game. Can't wait for a game with innovation. A game that most of the stuff in it, hasn't been done.. I wont be playing aion at release im gonna stick to aoc.. at least its different...

Well, I would add that nothign is in a vacuum. Aion of course does not have anything to do with Angels and demons but one cannot make a creature that looks like an angel or demon and not at least be cognizant of the comparison. From there one either designs away from that comparison or toward it. But it's not like the devs never thought that one wouldn't be made.
Still, Aion has nothing to do with religion.

I'll put my money towards the game that is fun to play.

For the millionth time, this is what an MMO is. You don't want innovation, you want a creation of something completely different that you can play online.
The definition of innovation from wikipedia:
The term innovation means a new way of doing something. It may refer to incremental, radical, and revolutionary changes in thinking, products, processes, or organizations. A distinction is typically made between invention, an idea made manifest, and innovation, ideas applied successfully. (Mckeown 2008) In many fields, something new must be substantially different to be innovative, not an insignificant change, e.g., in the arts, economics, business and government policy. In economics the change must increase value, customer value, or producer value. The goal of innovation is positive change, to make someone or something better. Innovation leading to increased productivity is the fundamental source of increasing wealth in an economy.
Innovation is not about reinvention, it's about taking something that already exists and making it function better. Very often the best innovations are the ones that work so smoothly you don't even realize that they are there.
AoC is innovative and so is Aion in it's own way. LotrO though to me is not an innovation, it just borrows from everyone else. A lot of people say WoW is no different then EQ, that's a load of bollocks. WoW changed the way the world looks at mmos and want to play mmos, that's innovation.
Ah ha. Ok, should have rephrased it to. What are the things you dislike in Aion? Ranger or Archer whatever, dont bash me for it. I know the Ascension quest is level 10. Thats when you get wings. Graphics aside, is there more to it? Lore? Role playing and immersion?
How can you possibly say that *roleplay* is an aspect of a mmo. You can't judge how good a game is in regards to how good the *roleplay* is as the roleplay is entirely player made. If you don't like the *roleplay* in Aion, or any game it is your own fault for having no imagination rather than it being the dev's fault so how can you count that as a good aspect of a game?
I dont see the point of this thread. Where usually trolls keep their comments to threads where they arent welcome- this thread is asking for the unkind remarks... Well hopefully it keeps their attention away from threads we would rather not have them in.

That was actually a fair question. Aion is very immersive and has many features that is roleplay friendly. Like when you talk to someone your character acts depending on what you type. You don't need to type in /em laughs to show Roger laughs, you just type in laugh and it shows you laughing. The one thing that hardcore roleplayers really like is an open seamless world which at first view the game is not, but it does open up a few levels up. But the world in general makes sense and there is not much derailing of the illusion that this is a breathing world and not a virtual one.

Well here's the thing, Aion is definitely a great game. But AionSource is the place to talk about issues and stuff like that.
OMG! We will not be able to have synchronized swimming contest, since the game does not have swimming! OMG! What I am going to do now?!
/sarcasm off
If you seriously could not find anything else to talk about, then it just means that game is really that good.
