anyone else worried about getting a large base of immature players..similiar to WOW

The only reason I ask is since seeing that cinematic trailer...and then reading all the post on the official TOR...talking smack about how the sith are going to dominate etc....the maturity level seems to be lacking..it reminds me of WOW. I am already thinking the safe way to play it is play a jedi as opposed to the sith since most of the comments were coming from future sith players. Right now I am playing LOTRO and the community seems much more mature compared to WOW, which is a huge plus. Everyone is talking about endgame with this game..well for me..community is a huge selling point.

So whats everyone thoughts on what the TOR community will be like?

There will always be asshats in mmos, mmos are mainstream now.  Just learn to use your ignore list.

This game was DESIGNED for that market in my opinion.  The only games that scare those types of people away are the ones that actually require thought and effort to play.  This game is specifically targeting the WoW themepark market with a huge intellectual property (Star Wars).  It appears to be the 'purist' solo-friendly theme-park game ever designed.  It will play more like a single player RPG game with co-op.  It will take what WoW did, and refine it down as far as possible.  It will be easy, and this will draw the people you don't want.

A sure sign that you are in an old, dying paradigm/mindset, is when you are scared of new ideas and new technology. Don't feel bad. The world is moving on without you, and you are welcome to yell "Get Off My Lawn!" all you want while it happens. You cannot, however, stop an idea whose time has come.

That's why you join a guild of grown people who don't act like they are kids.

There are ppl who you do not approve, everywhere, from work to eating place, to this message board.

What do you do about that?  Same for your beloved coming games.

Just ignore the immature players as they will undoubtably exist. I mean you can hope there's a lesser number of them hopefully since it's an IP that in my opinion has an older fanbase than some...

Either way it shouldn't effect your decision as there WILL most certainly be mature players in the game. Those are the ones you should find and play with and try to not let the kids ruin your experience.

I'll be playing this because I love sci fi I love star wars and more specifically the old republic is probably my favorite time period in star wars. If you havent read the Darth Bane books you should! they take place quite a bit after this game begins but they talk a lot about the history including the old sith masters like Revan, Exar Kun, Freedon Nadd... etc etc. :)

I like how the best advice you have been given has been along the lines of "seclude yourself".

What's the point of the MMO then?  :O

I understand you get immature players in all mmorpg's, and the ignore comes in handy for some situations.  I just hope they dont make up the majority of the player base. Like the poster said above me...you dont want to just isolate yourself and solo till your cap in mmorpgs..otherwise whats the point? You want to group with mature players...go on quest and just have a good time. I just hope the mature players are the majority. Sure a mature guild is great...but lets be realistic here...you have a quest that requires a group...its 11 at night...5 guild mates are on...and none are the right level or are busy. Well then you go group with someone not in your guild. This is the scenario where you really get to see what the community in a mmorpg is all about, and this scenario can come up alot.

As long as mature players are the majority....i will be a happy camper.

Seriously it's not wow it's just people making the choice to act like douchebag. You get it everywhere in life. Why would it be any different on the interwebz ?

And how is a guild going to help and prevent you from seeing your server full of Epeen L337 kiddies running around flexing with their light sabers?

It was the same as in WoW and why I just gave up on that game. There is no point.

As I still have to see the first MMO that can make asshats dissapear the moment you join a guild.

Sure you can dissable every global chat there is. But what's the point of playing an MMO then?

No, Bioware is clearly targeting their KOTR crowd (and along the way hoping to steal a good chunk of WoW kiddies) and that's what you gonna get.

    Good luck with that.

    Cheers

So you will likely have several TOR accounts by the sound of it.

this is why i stay with the guild i am in.....most are 25+ and have been together since very very early swg.....i love em, and makes gaming a ton of fun....could care less if the majority of players were younger, i am part of a great core of players and it increases the fun of my play time 100 fold

LMFAO I totally agree with Cypryss when you deal with the public on a large scale your bound to get folks from all walks of life including the immature rude folks. Not much you can do about it, it's just one of those things when you deal with the internets.  :P

The solution is simple, if the offender is getting on your nerves ignore him. Simply ignore and move on. You should be able to tell who is a mature or immature person by now.

As for guilds, i've seen and been in some of the most immature guilds and been in some too.

Just ignore them, shouldn't be a post tbh lol.

  • CypryssCypryss Member Posts: 84

Even being in a guild full of mature people doesn't do jack for you either.

Someone will come down with a case of bi polar and that buddy you thought was a cool guy ends up to be a moron.

look, they're making a game that lets anyone be a lightsaber swinging jedi from the get go. The playerbase is doomed.

  • Minion552Minion552 Member Posts: 67

Well to be honest When I played SWG most of the little kids did play dark jedi or Sith in that game.. You will normaly in almost every MMO find the mature players being out numbered by the kids.. just the way it is Good thing for us is they are just that kids and half the time can not pull together well enough to win :)

I Loved playing a jedi in SWG and loved being out numbered makes the game more fun to me to beat the odds and send the kids to bed having bad dreams about me :)

Well, usually there is more than enough guilds around in every mmo, it doesnt hurt to be a little selective.. and maybe not join a guild with 200+ members, cause there will be an As*hat or 2 in that guild..

but ya right, asshats are going to play this game, just like any OTHER game!!

The whole discussion about "if wow carebears play this game, i will quit immediatly"... is just crazy dude.. People who think like that, is better off playing single player RPG...

i have played WoW once, got to lvl 14 and quit, it wasn't me... that doesnt mean i hate everyone who can enjoy WoW, why should i hate them?...

And besides, if you see some kid runnning around trash-talking, or trying to sound "1337", there is always an ignore button somewhere... end of story.

Hate to break it to you bro but, those kids you are talking about. The ones from like wow and stuff. They play Alliance. Horde are not nuch different with college freshmen but lesser of  two evils i guess. Regardless of what this mmo will see as a player base i'm rolling a sith for the simple fact is that i know the power of the dark side and i kind of like it.

You can see it whatever you like.

I have played too many MMO's to see the difference between one MMO specifically targetting a sertain audience and one MMO targeting and attracting a  more mature audience.

WoW, WAR and AoC for example attracted a lot of epeen kids, while SWG, EverQuest 2 and LOTRO for example didn't.

All I am saying is how I feel what is going to happen to this game. Seeing all the discussions over various forums and how people talk about it.

Joining a guild is always a good thing to improve your game experience. Not just in MMO's. In every online game.

But if your server is going to be overrun by Epeen L337 kiddies, then a guild isn't gonna help you make them dissapear.

I have witnessed this happening on 3 different servers in WoW.... 3 servers that were awesome in the first 3 - 6 months and went straight downhill afterwards.

These so called mature guilds (from wich I was part off) will start falling apart one by one...because people get fed up, not willing to be put up with the very immature atmosphere of the server... they either transfer away or quit the game.

While I never had these kind of problems in games like SWG, EQ2 and LOTRO.

    Cheers

It's funny how some people here give a few immature players so much weight when determining what games they enjoy, what clothes they wear, what foods they eat or how they interact with other people. I mean if they are such a powerful influence in determining what you do in life....you need to show them a little more respect...

Seriously, as long as there are tools in place to help you weed out  or tweak your social enjoyment of the game, then please....utilize them and take control of your life.
