Seeing as so many of us here have been beaten and robbed, are bitter and twisted about past MMO releases, their developer's promises and their hype, are you going to fall for it again?
As for myself, I will be buying this game and I'll be expecting a solid RPG from Bioware that happens to have other real people playing in the same game as me. It's as simple as that, nothing more, nothing less and I'll gladly hand over my money for this experience.
From what I've seen so far I honestly do not anticipate playing this game day in and day out over a very long period of time on the same character. I'm waiting on the press release that changes my mind on that, believe me.
It could end up being something along the lines of me returning for a month at a time every three months or so to continue my story as they add extra content.
No prophecies here, no doom and gloom, no failure, just the way I see it from what we know and an approach to playing that should live up to my expectations, Hell, Bioware might even pull through and surpass them!
Most of you probably won't share my view on this and that's fine. If your expectations are different I'd like to hear them, I'm open to new ideas and maybe you know something I don't.
So how are you going to approach this new MMO? What are your expectations?

I am a fan of Star Wars and I enjoy Bioware's games. I will be buying this game day one unless something comes around to tell me otherwise.

You wouldn't understand
Yep that is my intention also, but what do you think you're going to get in that box?
Not a big fan of star wars and don't set myself up with lofty expectations for MMO's. I enjoy games that I play for waht they are, not what I think or others think they should be, if I don't like a game I don't play it. I hope to get into Beta when availible... we'll see.
I never buy games without trying them first.
That is, until now. I'm a geek, Star Wars was the first movie my parents ever took me too (yes, I'm old), and I've been a huge fan ever since, so I'm always interested in anything involving this IP.
I'm also a big fan of Bioware, and I have complete faith in them. Honestly, I'm expecting this game to be KOTOR with more freedom and interaction with other players. KOTOR was amazing for the fact that even though you were being pushed down a very small path, it still felt like you had some freedom. The story was immersive, it made me want to participate, to explore, to talk npc's. It didn't feel forced.
Depends on what is going on in my life at the time.. If' I'm busy and satsified with my current games, I'll probably just wait a number of months and read what others have to say first.. I refuse to fall for another SWG experience of buying the game on day 1 after all the hype.. Play it for a number months before finally saying I've had enough of the BS.. I cancelled before NGE, because the game was so over-hyped and broken..
I've beta tested and played over 6 new games in recent years and only 1 was "ok" at best.. That being LoTRO.. I enjoyed it, but saw no sence playing both LoTRO and WoW at the same time.. Both were fantasy driven games.. Vanguard I beta tested and hated it so bad I quit beta and refused to even think about spending real money on that POS.. Eve online was a let down as I couldn't enjoy the game to last the first month.. ZZzzzz
To me the growing trend seems to be "HYPE" the game as much as you can in the first year, and hope that you can retain those numbers afterwards..
This is along the lines of what I was trying to say.
Even if it is an online KoToR I wouldn't mind laying down some cash to play it.
While I would appriciate a remake of SWG due to the sandbox nature which is rare nowadays (plus, I love crafting and SWG had that in spades), I am also realistic since I know EA is not going to settle with being second. So it's going to have WoW mass appeal, which is both good and bad, atleast to me as a player.
Here's my approach - not just for this one but all games:
It's no biggie.
Really. I like less than a quarter of the single player games I buy - as far as I'm concerned, that is to be expected. Nevertheless, I do find something to enjoy in most of them. A bit of story, a particular piece of gameplay, even a supporting character. That's OK. It's the nature of the beast. You can't love every single aspect of a game, and MMOs are not meant to provide you with a perfect world where you have no beef with anything you see or do. Get what you can get and be happy with it.
I read about ten books a month. About half of those will be "meh", and several particularly bad, but I never regret it. Why should I? It's more than likely I've read a lot of good stuff in those "meh" ones and even the bad ones. Oddly, I've never gone around shouting "Oh my God, I've been robbed, this is not postmodern detective fiction meets Austen as advertised on the cover! Reread Austen, you effin' idiots!".
I will buy SW: TOR. Even if it turns out to not have long term appeal for me, I'm sure Bioware will deliver on several fronts. I expect good stories and good voiceovers at the least. And I really like some of the environment art I'm seeing. Just those are worth the price for me.
My approach, is to build this, to get to the release of this game:
Im buying this game with the fact that Bioware hasnt dissapointed me yet kept in the front of my mind.
Loved Kotor 1, loved jade empire, loved mass effect, i plan on buying this and dragon age origins.

Hey is that a genuine time machine?!
From the replies so far it seems that everyone is about on the same page.
No doubt we've been bitten a few times, but i still hope for the best in MMO. GIven Bioware track record, i'll definately buy this game on day one.
/fingers cross.....

Would you mind sharing what that would be for you and if you think that Bioware will deliver it with SW: ToR?
(There's no right and wrong here.)
Hey is that a genuine time machine?!
haha! I don't think it will take you long to build that. You might need to find another great item to build. Unless your expecting the release to pop around the corner.
