What game are you currently playing? Come on dont be shy and stay on topic please.
What do you care? You "know" you are playing the best MMO on the market, so why not enjoy that you have the "best kept secret in the biz", and be happy the worthless, carebear, PVP-lite, scrubby, bum, noobs are playing some other game?

here is the answer to your question.
With all the complaints people post about this game I very honestly (I am not joking when I say this) think that maybe I am missing something. That maybe my gaming expereince actually isnt as rich as I think it is. Thus I start to think, well I wonder what game I might want to try out instead so I can understand where these people are coming from and maybe have even a better gaming experience.
I am 10000000% honest when I say the above. I a dead serious, no joke.
So the question does matter.
Please do not respond to me, even if I ask you a question, its rhetorical.
I'm playing the best full loot, skill-based PvP game out. Eve-Online. I wish Darkfall was better, but it's a complete disaster and needs lots of work.
Not to trash EvE but I did try it for a full day and I got to say the game didnt speak to me. I felt I was spending far too much time in a space station and autoflying from one location to the next.
By comparision after 3 months of playing DF I am just now starting to get a slight hint of desiring more content that is of intrest to me.
Please do not respond to me, even if I ask you a question, its rhetorical.
Any game anyone names other than the one your prefer will be critiqued for this reason or that. In the long run, your opinion is your opinion and my opinion is my opinion... and neither are wrong.
If I say DF is not the game for me (having tried it), I will be tagged as 'carebear' or whatever.
If I give specific reasons for why I don't like DF, then I will get excuses for why they aren't that big of a deal... and then be called 'carebear' again.
I'm currently subscribed to 4 games... and none of them are 100% of what I'm looking for.

I personally have made it a point to not flame people who answer my question directly. Mostly becuase the question almost never gets answered.
I have seen the list of complaints over and over and in all styles and forms but it doesnt help me select a game that might be better. I am not a fanboy in that I will only be open to playing DF. I am a consumer and as a consumer I will not think twice about switching to a better game AND I would perfer if people helped me out in selecting one.
Giving me a list of what is wrong with DF doesnt help me select a game that might be better.
so with that, at least from me, you will get more grief by NOT answering the question.
Please do not respond to me, even if I ask you a question, its rhetorical.

"I'm playing something better than Darkfall, that's what! So there!"
These are the answers Im expecting, though were gonna need a couple three paragraph off topic rants mixed in to flesh it out a bit. But nothing anyone wants to really admit their playing besides Eve. keep it coming....
In defense of Eve, it takes more than a day to get into... run the tutorials, do the 3 career mission agent quest lines, and find a Corp and get a taste of PVP. Then, and only then, are you giving the game a fair shake.
I played Darkfall in beta, and up until about a few weeks ago. I simple got sick of afk macroing, exploiting mobs, and not finding any PVP unless there was a siege. Small group PVP is basically non-existent, and while sieges are fun, they have their issues as well.
If there was a game, fantasy-based like DF or not, that combined many of the aspects of Eve-Online and Darkfall, I'd be in heaven.
Former xFire user... I only wanted a game tracker and messenger, not a screenshot taker, video recording, broadcasting piece of bloatware.
Remarkable, so far not a single concrete statement. Intresting..and not a surprise. btw not that some "premium haters" have replied already..as expected.

Fair enough and I agree really good games should take longer than a day to "get into" that said. EvE just didnt spark it with me while DF did and still has.
I think for me the issue is exploring. I in EvE I clearly cant leave my ship and explore some planet and in DF there is a ton of places to explore (although I do agree more explore related content would be nice) .maybe that is why I like DF, to explore.
As far as AFK macroing. I have been playing this game for 3 months and I have never done a single afk macro. Now granted I am not the best player on board but who cares.
Please do not respond to me, even if I ask you a question, its rhetorical.
Salutations! I'm glad I meet your expectations! btw I'm playing Runes of Magic inbetween Day of Defeat, Age of Chivalry, Guild Wars, and City of Heros(I like sandwitches).
we have an answer!
I dont know how anyone has time to play more than 2 mmo's, but its a list. I will look them up today given I have no work today.
Just a quick question while I look at this games. Do any of them have crafting at all?
Please do not respond to me, even if I ask you a question, its rhetorical.
I'm not a hater. I gave Darkfall a fair shake, but decided not to give them any more money due to the game essentially being a paid beta. I like the PvP and I'm not afraid of dying or losing loot. As for what I'm playing:
Dungeon Runners - fun, casual, tongue-in-cheek Diablo clone that's great during a lunch break (I work from home - /gleee)
Wizard101 - fun, family friendly game I play with my son. The story line and progression are extremely linear, but the card based combat is surprisingly deep and exciting, especially as you go up in levels
Runes of Magic - something to kill time with some RL friends
Darkfall - *was* playing for the last month - not playing anymore - I'll check back in a couple of patches or maybe after the NA server launches
What am I looking forward to?
Darkfall
Mortal Online
Huxley
Earth Eternal
Champions Online
I'm not one of those individuals for whom games are careers, nor are my interests so exclusive that I can't enjoy different types of games. My interests and what I consider fun vary.
Eve has many more places to explore than Darkfall... you should look into probing. I think your issue with Eve is failing to realize your ship is your character (well, until they release Ambulation). That's a valid complaint, and one I had to practically make myself get over. Once I got over that, the game was much for fun and I was able to really experience it.
I applaud you for not AFK macroing, but its the way. Practically the only way. I toured many guilds and each one of them had AFK macroers galore in the cities and most spent their online time trying to setup their macros for when they were gone. Through my travels to many other cities / hamlets in the game, I could see that these guilds weren't the only ones doing it, almost everyone was.
Without a need to actually play the game, except when they venture out briefly to exploit some mobs for gold, the players never left their city except for a siege. That's not my idea of fun.
I have no doubt that there are some players like you that are playing the game correctly, but unfortunately, not enough of you.
Former xFire user... I only wanted a game tracker and messenger, not a screenshot taker, video recording, broadcasting piece of bloatware.
what I am seeing in a lot of the answers are basically what i call "instant action games". What I mean by that are games with no crafting, no "empire building" and easy to get into a fight.
Not saying these games are bad but I will say I dont think its the target demographic of Darkfall which in part maybe an advertising mistake by AV for ever using the word "hard core" if they in fact ever did.
Please do not respond to me, even if I ask you a question, its rhetorical.

what you have described about the players in DF is why I have said the only problem with DF is the player community.
Nobody is making anyone stay in their cities, its been a mass global choice made by players which some how has translated into the fault of AV.
Please do not respond to me, even if I ask you a question, its rhetorical.
I havn't looked much into Mortal Online, but supposedly its better than Darkfall in every aspect. Graphics, PVP, Crafting, Mounts, and a dynamic environment. Here's a powerpoint presentation released from official website some time ago. (Loader included inside)

Much of the information regading the crafting etc is about as vague as your statement of "its better".
In fact, some of the crafting details could easily be interperted to be exactly the same crafting engine as DF.
Please do not respond to me, even if I ask you a question, its rhetorical.
I'm not a hater, i'm just being realistic about that crappy game. When a company lies and lies and takes over 10 years to release a game that has 1% of what was promises, dont you have the right to be disapointed in them ? Game is a POS period. To answer the OP question, the whole MMO genre right now is very dull and boring. It's all seems to be the same old thing all over again. So i havent played a MMO in over 6 months. Right now i'm playing Fallout 3.
Comments
I ask that question often too. The answers I usually get are games that are currently not out, or are 10 years old.
I STILL like the game and its not like its my only exposure to a video game or something and I just dont simply know any better.
That said I really dont like the DF community, at this time I dont think I have ever come across more that whine and complain, ever.
Please do not respond to me, even if I ask you a question, its rhetorical.

I actually Quit DF to go play SWG till something new comes out.. Yah after 3 months I hated it that much.
If the game is so fun for oyu why the hell arent you playing.

I also play Formfall, the prerelease version of Darkfall.
It has no crafting, and far less grind than DF and twice the combat! And, unlike Darkfall, it has no levels!
Though I mostly watch from the sidelines.
I never feel like crafting and ignore it in games that seem to have a deep crafting systems like Runes of Magic or Lord of the Rings.
I have played RF Online but the grind drove me off. The 3 way wars were fun.
I mostly like to adventure.
and loot hats.
