Hey guys,
Here's the deal. I've been using www.ciao.com/Toshiba_Satellite_X205_S9800__15538324 (Laptop) for the past year. I ordered it last February and received it in March. I've been using it as a gaming computer ever since. It stays on. I'm running it on a www.beachaudio.com/Zalman/Zm-Nc2000black-p-134478.html which is a cooling fan that stays on under it. Laptop stays on for days at a time which isn't good for a laptop to be honest. I'm starting to have problems. It is running regularly at 70c+. This is not a good temperature for it. It goes above 85 when running games.
Yesterday I started playing Huxley beta and it shut off my laptop 2 times which leaves me to think my laptop just can't handle up-coming games. With Aion coming up, I can't risk not having a good gaming machine for it. I've never built a gaming pc in my life but have wanted to for the past 5 years; I think it's time to do so. I need help. Either I can purchase an already built machine since I don't have a ton of knowledge on actually building pc's (I've added ram and stuff before on pc's) or I can actually build it myself. I'm not looking to spend more than 550.00 (800.00 max). Goal would be 625.00 or somewhere along the lines of. Now if you feel I need to spend more to get what I'm looking for which is being able to multi-task while having no problems gaming on Aion for instance, then build me a pc that's a little more expensive. I'm use to e-machine gaming on wow and using this laptop for the past year. So as you can imagine many cheap gaming pc's would be nice upgrades. You would think this laptop being how expensive it is would handle more, but It really can't handle anything on high settings flawlessly. I just don't want it to overheat and it's time to let it rest a little and upgrade to a real machine. I'm looking to be wow'd by graphics.
It's a must that I try up-coming games and have the computer to do so. I work in the mmorpg field. Not to mention I'm looking to really get into a game by the end of this year like I did when wow first came out. I plan on Aion doing it for me since I was literally on Lineage 2 24/7 for over 2 years, same with WOW. My plan and goal is to have it done by the summer. I'm going to set 150.00-200.00 a week aside for the computer. I plan on making the purchase in the middle or by the end of July. I have a 20" monitor ready for it as well as a tv that I'm going to use for it as well when gaming that's 37" LCD. So, no monitor is needed. I just need the actual gaming desktop now. So, who wants to help me? Who's good with desktop's and can give me very nice graphics with very nice speeds.
Sites I'm looking at purchasing from:
www.ebay.com (Depends)
I really would LOVE to only spend 550.00 but I need it to handle Huxley flawlessly, Age of conan (Currently Subscribed) set on high, as well as up-coming games that I'm looking forward to. Such as; Aion, Citiesxl, and many many more games I've been keeping track of. I'm looking for it to play Aion on high settings. If it can't; medium settings with no lag will do. I want it to be INTEL as well as NVIDIA graphics card. I don't want to bother with ATI unless you really suggest it. Some of you know much more about computers than me. I've just had an e-machine for the past 6 years before I upgraded to this laptop and now it's time to either build or get a real gaming pc.
What I would like is for someone to actually build it on one of these sites and give me links to the actual build so I can check them out. I want nice graphics and I want to be able to really multi-task without it lagging when I minimize the game. 4-8gb of ram would make me happy. Now if you recommend I buy a pc and not build, please post a link to the pc you recommend. Help me get a deal. I'm definitely building by the end of the summer. I have a full-time job and am ready to start building or am ready to talk about pc's that are already built that look nice for the INTENSE gamer. I'm always on the damn computer, lol.
Thanks fellas and hope to hear from some of you pc builders soon!

GRAND TOTAL : $800.92. Maximum budget for you It'll run AoC on High, (by the way, tell me what yer resolution is ok?) and Aion / Huxley
GRAND TOTAL WITH EXTRAS : $1090.88
Anyway, that's just my rough build..took a good hour but I did it If you decide to buy it, congratulations on making a solid purchase. I've outlined a few things up there. 1TB HDD @ 7200rpm for all the games and software,OS, etc. so you don't run out of space soon, 4gb of DDR2 ram @ 1200MHz , 2.8GHz core 2 duo cpu for gaming, can be OC'd , just..I mean..2.8GHz is plenty for you If you decide to OC, just buy a better cpu cooler. Also got yerself an Nvidia GeForce GTX260 for some nice gaming. Can run things pretty decently , if not better. Ran AoC for me , on 1680x1050 (or was it 1920x1200..) at around 60-80 fps, providing smooooooth gaming in your sieges and whatnot. (P.S. - What server you on? (US I presume?)
Take care !
Nice job Sh1ntu
Thanks
I've actually got a 4 reply thread in the Maximum PC forums open on this. Thanks for the reply. Tell me if you like this build we've come up with the other day.
Not only am I ordering a build but I'm ordering Aion Collectors Edition as well as a headset for a grand total of around 1,060.00 =/ I will feel so bad spending so much on a pc but I've never built one before so it should be fun.

Let me know what you think. The graphics card was a debate between the 260 and the ATI. Even with the free game I had to go with the ATI. But, please let me know your opinion(s)! Ordering it this coming Friday so all opinions before then would be appreciated.
Thanks again for your build, btw.
with this one all you'd need is a good video card and its only $549 http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/SearchTools/item-details.asp?EdpNo=4374308&Sku=S445-10019 you did say on the cheap and that is very nice fo the price
I'd use ebuyer. But you should be able to get quite a good PC for the amount you've got to spend!
It looks good I was actually comparing cards and cpu's for another person's thread that was building a pc for Aion, it uses the Farcry/Farcry 2 engine so you can pretty much use those benchmarks to prepare for Aion and I found in most cases the 4870 1Gb did better than the GTX260.
I do think the X2 550/X3 720 are better deals when using the Farcry engine but the E7400 isn't a bad deal.
Mate, your config. is more expensive than mine, and..to be honest...a bit shit too. 500gb HDD? 4870? I mean the 4870 is good but...the GTX260 still edges out over it. Also, it's $200 over his budget limit. But that's just my opinion.
It's very close to the same config you posted.. it's including monitor in the price and coming out to $920 which is pretty close to your config w/monitor not including the Sidewinder peripherals. He should pick up the 640GB or 1TB HD though. I didn't look at all your components before cuz they weren't actual links so it was a pain hehe
Well went ahead and took the suggestions and decided to go with the 1 TB. Tell me if this will work.
So I changed the HDD
Changed the power supply as well...
Also had to change the dumb CDRW because the other was sold out went with...
I decided I'm going to wait on Aion until the 1st of August and get my pre-order for collectors edition then. So, this is the only thing I'm purchasing until then. I feel bad even spending this much and maybe you guys can tell me how to build and spend less. I still find this build to be a nice gaming build and will probably go with it.

Sure, it's a little over budget but it looks so good I may go with it this coming Friday. Unless someone builds me a build almost just as good as this one for a hundred or 2 hundred less. I refuse to switch out graphics. But if you think you can do better or about the same for cheaper, go for it.
For cost cutting measures, you can cut back to a 500W PSU and a 640gb HD, and use this Coolermaster case to save a total of ~$100:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16817341016 500W PSU
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16811119106 Coolermaster Case
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16822136319 640GB HD
Some other things, you only really need ~500W for a single GPU mobo like that, but the Corsair 650TX is a good PSU. I'd also like to point out the OCZ ModXstream 700W PSU that's on sale for the same price plus a $30 MIR and combos with your motherboard for another $10 off for an all round better deal (it's a good PSU too):
http://www.newegg.com/Product/ComboDealDetails.aspx?ItemList=Combo.202604
It looks like that Samsung 223Q is out of stock too, so I'd suggest the Samsung 223L.
Here's a build I came up with for same price to what you have, the main differences being a Phenom II X3 720, and a mobo with Crossfire so you can add another GPU down the line if you really want (and make use of the 700W PSU):
