Like an MMORTS? SAGA is the solution!!

Well I run a guild for SAGA MMORTS, so you can say my opinion is biased, but those who know me on the game forums should know that I'm not exactly their best fan.

Anyway, its a pretty nice game where you buy booster packs for cards (oh for the love of... how rigged can that be? WAIT!! DON'T RUN YET). You use those cards to form units and use them in your army. It is otherwise a real time strategy. You can at the moment only play with up to 4 players in PvP mode and quest with only one person, but I heard thats going to change soon. You can equip your units with items you gain from quests or from the item shop (not recommended due to exorbitant prices, just quest with a player 5 levels higher than you instead).

Anyway, back to the booster packs issue. They cost $3 each and you gain 10 cards, 5 of which are common, 1 rare and the rest uncommon. This means rich idiots can buy 1000 booster packs (hey someone really did) and have the best army evar. However, alas, my suggestion for a subscription based model was shot down. Really bad and flamed to hell too. So... we have an imbalance here, but I guess it doesn't really matter.

Skill playes a big part, so even if you have the best army evar, can you equip them well? In my experience, as long as you have a decent set of units (which may set you back by 50-100 bucks).

Do quests for resources to build your empire... and at the moment you can have up to 4 territories besides your main city. You can move them to wilderness status to build more resource buildings including mana shard mines, which are not avaliable otherwise except from PvP. Those are used to enchant items.

I don't work for them anymore as they closed/are closing their saga section, but it hasn't been taken down yet.

Lastly, I'm not going to advertise anyone here but if you need a discount code for buying unit singles, I have a code for one of those sites... just pm silverleaf/ironforge in game.

I've played saga, and was as excited as you are right now. But after a while you realise, it lacks some huge features. City building is as good as non-existing, you can place buildings, but you have no peasants, so it's not really a city feel. It's more like preparing yourself for battle.

My next problem was the limited gameplay. I loved the battles, very tactical etc. But once you've done the first 50 quests, you don't care about the others any more, they're all the same. Of course, that has changed with their new scripting language for quests, but that came too late for me.

But meh, I never like PvE in games, so lets talk about the PvP... Which is pretty much non-existing. A real MMORTS should have open PvP, attack whoever you want, whatever you want, etc. Saga has small zones, you can attack others if they  want to be attacked, etc. There should be a sense of politics in a MMORTS, make allies, fear the great nations, don't make enemies, etc. If someone tries to steal my resources, I'd like to attack that f*cker untill his nation is nothing more than a few ruins.

I did like the card system though. And people who buy 10000 boosters have only a small advantage. It goes fast, but they lost real money. While if you don't want to pay anything, you can just collect the resources, and buy them on the market!

A small suggestion, google Celetania or Dawn Of Fantasy. The first one is an online 4x game, quite good, a bit hard to get into (especially if they keep attacking you), and costs €8/month. The last one, well... I've been anticipating that game for so long, and it keeps getting delayed. It should come out around december 2009. I hope that game will have everything I want. I know it has city building, it even has outpost building! :)

Dawn of Fantassy should be fun, I've checked MMORTS.com but kinda like the card system of SAGA. Just hope theres new features soon else I probably won't stay long too. among a handful who have played in beta up till now consistently. I will probably stay around but if things don't happen soon, I may just make this my secondary game or something.

They had huge ambitions of updates, they were even planning on letting peasants walk around etc. But to give you an idea of how it's really going, the last time I played was to get that cristmas tree in my city (w00t!), and there hasn't changed a lot since then...

Well at least the disconnects are almost nonexistent now, lag is better.

Items have been given an overhaul too, lots of folks inclluding myself moaning about it but at least theres more variety now, though I wish they hadn't made ALL items obsolite...

Also, pvp quests (the first being ddragon pong) are supposedly avaliable on test server, I dont know for sure.
