Why Warcraft can't be beaten

    Why WoW can't be beaten?

    There's only 1 MAJOR reason:

Other game developers don't understand that the sheer number of WoW subscribers is equal to the sheer number of computers it runs on.

You can play WoW on practically on any PC, laptop and mac thats 3-5 years old. How many of the new MMO's work on that many systems? NONE!!!

For instance WAR, WAR doesn't have that spectacular graphics, but you can't play it(enjoyably) on any 3+years old computer.

You can't play it on any Mac nor any(nearly) laptop.

If your friends can't play the game due to system requirements, then its good as you'r going back to WoW.

There ARE MMO's that are better than WoW in some aspects(specially PvP), but they can't compete if they don't make the game for EVERYONE.

I really hope SW:ToR makes a difference as it seems to be the first game that has seen what makes WoW so succesful.

Open group quests in WAR is just walk in, and do it, as everyone else is also doing it.  At the end a chest will drop and some lucky guys can get a loot.

WoW we all donate ore or cloth to open AQ.

No not exactly the same thing, but the spirit is similar, that is my point.

I rather eat anywhere that isn't McDonald's, but because it is the only fast food place that is less than a mile away, I eat there all the time.

The only things I credit WoW for doing very well are the very stable, bug free game play, and a very nice world /world physics. Beyond that, the game is mediocre at best.

The game MECHANICS are not mediocre or millions of players wouldn't be paying to keep playing it.

We do know better. We tried the other ones.

Secret? In fact it has the best control mechanics by far of any mmorpg. Control as in fluid, responsive, "explosive" controls of you avatars in the PVE/PVP fights.

I was thinking yesterday when I played my rogue/paladin in the BG's and Arena. I can't think of any FPS which gives me this feeling of 3D control, surroundings feel I get while still in control of my avatar as if I were IN the world.

Before WOW other  mmorpg's was all about unresponsive, laggy, stiff control of avatars with a stick in their ass.

After Wow ... it still is the same (even for off line rpg's I don't have the same feeling of absolute control (The witcher) )

Is the control in Wow absolute? No but it just feels this way. You hardly are annoyed by some CD. You are IN the action.

People play mmorpg's for MONTHS in RL time. Better have the best control mechanics to support the gameplay.

Which is why I said world/world physics. The world is large and fairly open, and the world physics(player control, collision, flight) are very nice as well. I wish all MMO's had the physics and smooth gameplay WoW has.

Looking passed the game engine, the game itself is mediocre at best. Engine is topnotch though.

Tried: LotR, CoH, AoC, WAR, Jumpgate Classic
    Played: SWG, Guild Wars, WoW
    Playing: Eve Online, Counter-strike
    Loved: Star Wars Galaxies
Waiting for: Earthrise, Guild Wars 2, anything sandbox.
