Hey everyone, it's that time of year for me to upgrade my system. However this time I'm not upgrading, I'm rebuilding and selling my old one. Can I get some opinions on whether I should go with AMD or Intel? it's about a 200 buck difference, and I'd be able to clock the phenom higher, but I'd have triple channel memory and QPI instead of FSB with an intel machine... I'm back n forth.. And I'd be overclocking the I7 to 3.2ghz and the Phenom to 3.8ghz. Thanks in advance.

While the Phenom II is a good CPU, an i7 will definitely give you more bang for your buck. So if the extra cost is not an issue, I'd go with an i7.
I have it and it was the best purchase I've made as far as PC parts go.
Well for $200.00 more if you have it the i7 920 is the way to go. Both are great and can over clocked like hell , but the i7 over clocked will beat the AMD. And tri channel ram is way faster then dual. Go to tom's hardware site and take a look for your self.
Played Aoc/DDO/FFXI/WAR / LoTRo / CO / Aion
Playing Rift
Waiting for FFXIV to be the game it should. so sad =(
i cant add much constructive help with te CPUs but I can assure you the V8 is one baddass cooler. I mean if you have a clear case/grills or whatever, it just kicks ass, it looks like you have a freakin motobike in your pc, and probably has as much power as a small bike. the only thing is, its a bit of a bastard to get on. took 3 of us to do it (but we were a bit stoned and when you build a 3k PC you risk nothing) one to hold the V8, one the mobo and the 3rd to slide the back brace on and screw it all up. actually thinking about it, a 4th person did put the paste on..hehe. also if your getting that, do it some justice and use high quality thermal goo.
Playing polished, lag free, feature complete games is carebear. Whining about a game you hate but still play is hardcore man!
I decided to go with the I7 build. Thanks for the replies guys.

No problem, bro. Enjoy. And trust me you will.
I wouldn't bother. Your system is fine as is unless you are doing more intensive tasks like CAD work.
I need it for my job, and also for my 3D rendering, my current rig is screaming for more power when I perform certain tasks.
