After years of playing MMO's I finally quit. I played WoW for about 4 years. Tried out CoX for about a year. And finished up with LotRO and played that since closed beta.
I cancelled all my subscriptions to those MMO's. I quit mainly because of the addiction and the money. Fifteen bucks a month is quite a lot when you also have other things to pay for.
Right now Im looking for a F2P MMO. One that you can log on for just a half an hour and get something accomplished.
If you know of any kicked back and non-addicting (if there is such a thing) F2P's that would be great if you could let me know.
I need a game to pass my time late at night.

DDO is going F2P with a little store here on Aug 6th. I did the original beta and recent module 9 (F2P) version. they have made A LOT of improves. worth checking it out. I found i could play in 1-2 hour increments. lots of solo and challenging content. instances everywhere and all quests repeatable so you can hammer the same quest 15 times, or 1 really long one.
I'm currently between Atlantica Online and Neo Steam. Atlantica gets to be a major grind around level 50, but the combat system is different enough that it'll take some time to get bored with it. The PvP in Atlantica is also just as entertaining to watch as it is play.
Neo Steam is PvP focused so you probably won't have to worry about raids and the like. Just head to Riall and kick som ass in Jarit's garden for twenty minutes or so. Good stuff.
What friggin third world country do you live in? If 15.00 causes a problem in your budget, you have far greater problems than a game addiction.

If fewer people thought this way and more examined their monthly budgets like the OP may have done, my guess would be we'd see fewer people who get themselves into ye olde financial troubles pit.
Now, to the OP, I agree with DDO shaping up to be an excelledt F2P choice and it has the advantage if being highly instanced which can help when you are looking for bursts of gameplay. I'm afraid, though, that it can probably end up being as addictive as any other game. As far as that aspect of it goes, you'll have to judge for yourself.
Good luck finding something that fits the bill (and, if you do, be sure to tell us what it is!)

maybe you should ask what his situation is before you act like a jackass. I was laid off 2 months ago and money was very tight as well....with 2 kids and a mortgage i would not have been able to pay for a mmo either if i wasnt playing eve for free. Next time think before you look like an idiot.

Although I do not promote F2P or cash shops or micro transactions, I would like to know what fucking planet your on. The OP is at least aware that 15 bucks a month IS an issue. We have a massive crisis in our economy and people have lost homes, jobs, and are sleeping in shelters with kids. If you are fortunate to have a endless cash flow I suggest you thank the universe for it before it gets taken away. To criticize an individual that is trying to maintain balance and survive in a economy plagued with disaster is silly.
For the record, my wife is bank examiner for the government so don't even try to argue with me about how bad its not. Your lucky you can afford to pay to game as a hobby. Right now a large majority of people across the world are more worried about getting fifteen bucks to put food on the table or keep the heat on when winter sets in, let alone pay for rent or a mortgage, car, gas, etc...

When your job cuts you from 40 hours a week to 34 hours, you'd realize how stupid this statement is.
There's your problem. Mmo's arent designed to be played for more than 6 months at best. Anyone playing WoW for more than a year needs to see a therapist, I think.
Try Guildwars, it is a lot more casual than most games and have no monthly fees. Will cost you a couple of bucks to buy it, but it is still cheaper than a F2P game in the long run, those cash shops are hard to avoid if you want to get somewhere in most games and GW don't have those.
But if you never liked Diablo, don't bother. It is made by the same lead designer and you notice that.
You're kidding right?
I've play WoW for over four years myself... I got friend into it, and he still plays after almost 4 years.
I'd say 100 people in my guild have play for at least 2 years.... why? We have fun to playing together.
If it weren't for the guild I was part of I would have probably quit sooner.

try 32 hours a week. its awesome.
If you are prone to addiction to Video games(or anything else) there is no non-addicting video game for you. It is about obsession and compulsion on your part - not on anything the game does. I also think you will be eventually drawn back, note your statement that you quit them but the that you are looking for a free to play game. The payment factor is not affecting your addiction, you quit play for pay because of it but still seek the (whatever it is that you seek in the games, be it a high or whatever).
If you truly want to quit get counseling, otherwise admit to yourself that you are going to play games and that your only objection is paying for them. Note: Most F2P games include an item mall for real cash - how will you handle that aspect? Will you find yourself paying money for stuff in game?
Addiction to Video Games is not one of the more serious form of Addiction in my honest opinion, but it is addiction and it will get worse not better if not treated. (and yes I am a substance abuse counselor).
Trust me you arent grinding till lvl 95+
Dungeon&Dragon Online like some said
Warrior Epic which is a mission-based MMO. You can easily complete a mission in 15-20 minutes then stop playing
Dungeon Fighter , similar to Warrior Epic but a completly different type of gameplay
If you enjoy shooters, try battlefield heroes.. It's really great, has levels, skills.
The games don't last long, and It's really easy to just hop into a game for a few minutes and play before you have to leave.
You quit because of the money. If you were worried about your addiction to MMOs, you wouldn't be asking about F2P ones.
Dude, your account is two days old and in the five posts you've made so far, you've resorted to calling people names or suggesting they need psychiatric help.
I'm thinking.....other account permanantly banned on Thursday, right?
