curious about my card set up

I was curious, do i need to have my SLI connected attached to both cards in order to have my 260 GTX act as the main card, andmy 8800 GTS 640mb act as a physx card?? or do they act independantly?

 

second question, im hearing that VISTA for some reason doesnt let the second card act as a physx card despite nvidia control panel enabling it, due to some bug or limitation via WDDM (windows desktop device manager). anything ring true to this??

 

because i tried to run mirrors edge with my 260 GTX as the main card and my 8800 GTS 640mb card as physx card and it acted absolutely atrocious til i turned off physx on the game.

Right now that hybrid deal has a ton of bugs.  If you put a SLi connector on those two cards it will not run right at all unless you have a newer board.. and if so you are dropping the performance of the 260 to that of the 8800.

 

IMHO drop the 8800 and just run the 260

if you put a SLi cord on it, it will run in SLi.  You may have to RTFM on this on about the conversion of the second card to PhysX.  From what i know, the physx driver will recongnize and use part of a single or sli set up of card/cards as a physX device.  In other words, one will nto be JUST the PhysX device and JUST the VGA device, it will leech power from a single card or a SLi Pair.

Putting those cards in SLI will give you 2x 8800s performance wise, regardless of if you use the Physx option or not. 

 

My advice keep just the 260

you can sell that 8800 for about 60-100 bucks on ebay

sold both of my 8800 GTS 640s for 215 on ebay as a pair ^^

im trying it now actually :P. so far starting bid at conservative $75 hopefully over the next 10 days ill grab a bit or 2.
