I just don't think it brings enough to the table to keep half its numbers playing for more than a few months, at most.

Most of the people I've seen that dislike the game are disgruntled vets who want something "different". MMORPG.com is filled with those kind of players. Most of the people here hate WoW as well, but that game also seems to be holding out just fine :).

not to mention it is "BETA"

How are you meant to get anything out of an MMO after only playing it for 30mins?? This why people like you shouldn't be allowed in a beta. Also they had to add 4 more beta servers since last CB4, i guess that "shiny" experience hasn't worn off yet lol

honestly its very different from wow, slower lvling and grouping is better than solo. its plays more like eq1 for me, not as bad as leveling but deffinit;y slower than WoW.

its hilarious, we finally don't get another WoW clone, and people are complaining it levels too slow..lol starting to think people just like to bitch.

All you offer to disprove the 'WoW clone' myth is slower leveling (which is a negative) and more importance to grouping (which is often an inconvenience)?

What is Aion's end game anyway? Have you personally played it? How is it?

Don't throw out words like "unpoloshed and buggy" in Aion forum. As I saw you are coming from WAR and maybe those words are "perfect" over there, but not here.

    WAR sucked after L20.

Are you giving Aion credit for getting to the suck right at the start?

The worse the initial leveling experience is, the fewer people will do it with alts. Which means after a while, the lower levels will be less populated and that grouping will be more inconvenient.

So, what's end game in Aion like?

Is that all you can say? Yes, maybe I didn't say it right, but you know what I was trying to say. Now tell me, did you ever tried Aion? ( I am not gonna read all of your posts to figure it out if you did ).

EDIT to : So, what's end game in Aion like?

Is like the second time when you asked this. Did you read my last posts? I explained you there , so if you want to know how Aion end game is, FGI .

All I saw from you was 'I saw some videos and read some articles'. I'm guessing that you haven't played end game, which means you don't know what it's like. Why not just admit it?

Talk is cheap. I had an Elder tester tell me at WAR's release not to worry about end game. That it was just fine and working properly.

Why do people make their games a religion?

Aion's endgame is being played by 4 million people in asia at moment, a year after being released and sub numbers are increasing. I dont think WAR ever had that luxury .... comparing apples and oranges is fun isn't it?

Oh you're right. Only rabid fanbois should be allowed to beta test a game. That way the devs only get shining reviews and nothing ever gets fixed if the game itself is rotten or needs work.

Millions of people are playing WoW's end game. It doesn't appeal to me.

I want to know what it's like, not how many people appear to like it.

Your right, all game companies should suck people in with the meat of the game being in the first 20 levels and an empty experience after that. lol you sir are hilarious with your logic.

You can't compare the Eastern audience with the Western, i am pretty sure there are mmos in Asia that are played allot more then AION.

Just take Lineage 2 for example, there are 1 million accounts worldwide but only 80k are from the west, so the general gameplay tastes seem to differ entirely.

Yes i know that AION was made to appeal to both hemispheres but something tells me that this ain't true.

Especially the storyline turned me off. I remember i rolled my eyes when i saw the first cut scene in the Elyos zone and it doesn't get better after it.

I can't wait till people actually get to the pvp part and start to calculate how long it takes to gain 1 piece of armor. If you remember WoW PvP grind at start (High Warlord took your life away) imagine it 10x worse.

It was his own opinion, if the game didn't appeal to him in those 30 minutes then you should be totally fine with it, pretty much anyone can conclude something from it. Pointing out that his opinion is false is ridiculous.

If you would play a song from Britney spears and i say it don't like it after 1 minute, would you go and say, listen to it to the 3rd minute?

In my opinion(like that?), Alpha, you can't compare the two.  The length of each alone blows chasms into your comparison.

If it has to do with game style, then yes, you can get an idea after a half hour of gameplay.  anything else, and you need to give it a bit longer to tell whether it's a solid game or not.  Christ, you have access to a free beta.  Lord knows you all circled around Evercrack, WoW and other games for longer.

    But, but, but....!

Why would the players pay the sub then?! We all know that mmos are supposed to be painful and boring so you get a sense of accomplishment that you endured the leveling to get to the "proper" game at the end! MMOS build character, you know! The longer and the more pointless leveling is the bigger your d*** is! Everyone knows that!

Why would I play something that is actually fun?! Everyone can do that! I want to do something that is harsh and dull and unforgiving and pointless so I can show everybody that I'm not a total fail in life - that I could have actually held on to that job/career/school if only I wanted to!

You talk foolishness man. There were attempts at making actual fun mmos before but they all failed miserably - simply because of the wrong audience. The average mmo no-lifer doesn't want fun, he wants a sense of accomplishment he is so desperately missing in RL. "Fun" only diminishes this feeling. The duller and harsher it is the better.

  • arthen999arthen999 Member Posts: 183

The lower levels tend to always be a bit  dull in an mmo . Any mmo it does nt  just apply to Aion . The OP is entitled to his opinion but lets face it its his opinion is based on only a tiny fraction of the game .

If we were to apply this logic to say a Warcraft nightlelf you d have experiance you d proberbly have only just got past the darkshore quests and maybe reach astranaar by level 20 . most likly you would nt have done an instance or a battleground . its unlikly you would have seen much pvp . the quests were of the most basic kind at those levels kill this find that or escort something .

i think it took me till mid 20s in warcraft before i realised what it had to offer . In age of conan its been later than that i think i was level 40 before i saw its potential .

I dont think Aion will appeal to people who are used to having things handed to them on a plate as they are in Warcraft these days .It will appeal to those of us who want a bit more of a challenge though . ( for the record i m also looking forward to champions online as well ).

People are allowed to bitch about the poor design of the 1-20 game.  They bitch because its true.  WHen you compare it to other games, you can't help but see how its lacking.  Standard quests we've seen 500 times and VERY linear, with no/little PvP.  The flight mechanic comes off as gimicky.  No swimming.  Artificial environments that don't give a sense of an actual living breathing world.  Not a great combination.  Anyone defending it is being fanboyish.  For most people if the start isn't fun, the end isn't going to be any better.

Sure the Abyss might be cool.  But why shouldn't the starter zones be cool too?  Games with lousy beginings don't have a history of taking off in the west.  Asking players to suffer through the begining in the hopes of it all getting better, is a recipe for failure.   The western audience expects A LOT more than the east.  They're perfectly content mindlessly grinding away.  That won't fly over here.  The patches better fix it t make it more appealing.

As soon as I got to Altgard and the npcs were giving me the same type of quests I just did I immediately knew this wasn't going to work out for me. Also i'm certainly not the type to pay a monthly fee just to pvp.

Thats right, you can get a pretty good picture of the gameplay after doing some quests and killing mobs because it doesn't change drastically.

Btw, i think my comparison was rather good :P.
