A former Blackwater employee and an ex-US Marine who has worked as a security operative for the company have made a series of explosive allegations in sworn statements filed on August 3 in federal court in Virginia.

The two men claim that the company's owner, Erik Prince, may have murdered or facilitated the murder of individuals who were cooperating with federal authorities investigating the company. The former employee also alleges that Prince "views himself as a Christian crusader tasked with eliminating Muslims and the Islamic faith from the globe," and that Prince's companies "encouraged and rewarded the destruction of Iraqi life."

In their testimony, both men also allege that Blackwater was smuggling weapons into Iraq. One of the men alleges that Prince turned a profit by transporting "illegal" or "unlawful" weapons into the country on Prince's private planes.

They also charge that Prince and other Blackwater executives destroyed incriminating videos, emails and other documents and have intentionally deceived the US State Department and other federal agencies. The identities of the two individuals were sealed out of concerns for their safety.

Jeremy Scahill is an impressive journalist. He'd better watch himself, though. Blackwater runs deeper than the mob, and they got way more money.

 

It's unfortunate that they've been allowed to go unchecked for the past 7 years, even at the highest levels of the government. Their "untouchable" mentality is no surprise (regardless of religious views).

This doesn't surprise me, honestly. What surprises me however, is the fact that not many journalists have made public the fact that Blackwater aka Xe, has conducted domestic operations training. Not just training in the states, which is what they do, obviously. I'm talking about doing domestic battle-drills, confiscation, policing.. stuff like that.



It's really strange for Blackwater, a private quasi-military enterprise, to be conducting such drills.

Yeah, I was there with my National Guard engineer unit, doing some clean-up projects. You'd be surprised how many people were killed by mercs...  Matter of fact, a couple of my friends in the unit were almost shot by mercs because they were driving through a merc-controlled "restricted zone", in their Humvee.. like that's not an indication of trigger-happy mercenaries. Almost shooting a US Army humvee.



There was more than just Blackwater though...



What I don't understand is how this never took off? I mean, that's extremely illegal, they are not law enforcement, they do not follow rules and regulations like they do. They are not always held accountable for their actions.

In a memo sent to employees, President Gary Jackson wrote that the new name "reflects the change in company focus away from the business of providing private security." A spokesman for the company stated that it feels the Blackwater name is too closely associated with the company's work in Iraq.[9] Spokeswoman Anne Tyrrell said there was no meaning in the new name, which the company spent over a year to arrive at in an internal search.[10]
