What will you be playing FF XIV on? PS3 or PC?

The title is self explainatory.

I personally will play it on the PS3. The amount of money it would cost me to upgrade the computer to a point where I could smoothly play FF XIV would be enough to buy another PS3.

What will you be playing FF XIV on? What are your reasons?

I will be playing it on both PC & PS3 (PS3 at home). I have a pretty kick butt computer now. Which I didnt back then. But when Im not at my house playing... I will be playing with my buds at their house. I used to have a crazy system that worked for me and I will spare you the details. In a summary Crafted & NM hunted while I was at home and Leveled & Quested with my buds. Worked out pretty well in the end. Im pretty sure that we will have some kind of schedule set up so we dont pass up each other. We already have been in contact with some old friends and trying to get the crew together. I cant wait!

Considering I will have a new computer by the time FF14 is released, probably PC. But even without, PC has so many advantages over playing on console, including various mods and programs like vent, dat swaps, model viewer, windower (and its add-ons). Also you can alt tab to read info on sites like the wiki. Can't imaging trying to play FF11 without access to wiki or bg forums.

Yes third-party programs are against SE's license agreement. But playing without TParty and Distance is a joke. Those are just incredibly essential tools to endgame play. Extended macroing abilities are also critical to gear-intensive jobs like BLM or RDM. Of course, most of this can be mitigated if SE had just smarted up and added all these essential features into the game in the first place.

Ah what a great question.  I just picked up a PS3 salvage for 83$.  I have a movie theatre room setup in my house with a 101" screen and a 1080p HD Projector that I am hooking my PS3 up to.  I will definitely play it on PS3 for this experience, but I am sure I will pick it up on PC also for when I travel or i'm stuck at my desk.

Ah man I can't wait to take a week off work and live in my movie theatre room.  I am saving money now to buy my wife a bunch of spa days.

sounds interesting, but i was under the impression that ps3's could only process hd at 720p? whereas even a mid range computer should be able to handle native 1080 hd, personally, i'll be using a PC, i can't afford a ps3 and the fact that ps3's are starting to look a bit dated now is an issue anyway, i would have thought for the best effect in a home movie theater setup, a pc would be a better option just for the sound alone, 7.1  etc, is pretty much an absolute minimum.  but if your doing it on the cheap then 83 dollars sounds like a pretty good deal to me :D

It depends on the model of PS3 you have. If I remember correctly, the original 20g harddrive PS3 at launch didn't have 1080p capabilties, but later models did. I believe my 80g PS3 has 1080p, but it wouldn't matter with me (my tv is 720p).

It all really depends on what you want. But don't dismiss a PS3 home movie theater experience, I've personally witnessed how awesome it can be from a friend.

Xbox 360. Because it WILL be on it regardless of how it appears now. Even if it's 6 months after launch.

Maybe. If I remember reading correctly before, FF XI was least played on the Xbox 360 (PC was number 1, and the PS2/PS3 both had decent amounts of people playing it).

Long story short, SE was pleased with how many people played FF XI on their PS2 (and PS3 once the addon mod came out), and the PC was a guarenteed success, but Xbox 360 was the weak link. This may have scared SE, and they acted accordingly by not making the Xbox 360 one of the launch consoles the game will be released to.

I'm not dismissing the idea, it does seem likely that eventually Xbox 360 will get the game (and if PC and PS3 people can actually play with each other on FF XIV like I hear in the rumors, it'll be interesting when Xbox 360 joins the fray). But not enough of you guys supported FF XI before, so  I would expect the game a couple of months or even a year after the launch for the Xbox 360.

Well lets see the PS3's slightly less powerful than GeForce 7800 at 1080 or my gtx295 and i7 at 1900x1200.........I'll stick with the pc.

I'll have to agree with ImperialPand. The advantages of playing on PC are to many to pass up on. Instead of going on with why I think this way, I'll leave it alone because PC vs Console is a whole different forum in itself.

  • RamenThief7RamenThief7 Member Posts: 362

Hmmm....well, it's mostly budget for me. I already have a PS3, upgrading to the specs that FF XIV requires for PC is far too expensive, and I am very interested in an mmorpg I play on a console (though I will have a usb keyboard).

The quality of what you're using to run FF XIV, in my opinion, is really only half the reason. Playing an mmorpg with a mouse and keyboard is far different from a game controller and some sort of keyboard.

I will let you guess, some background first oO.

I have 3 42 Inch LCD Flat Screen Wide Screen TV's with PC input one in each bedroom and one in the living room hooked to there own PC's. 3 PC's in my computer room. 3 laptops and 1 PS3 that's been collecting dust for months and months oO.

Edited to Add: lol didn't even mention my little project room that has 2 PC's in it lol.

Interesting...so many people wish to play FF XIV on a PC because of stronger specs...

Alright, I have a question to ask all people who voted PC here. If your computer currently would not be strong enough to play FF XIV smoothly (or at all), how much money would you be willing to spend to play FF XIV by upgrades to computer or buying a new stronger computer?

I'm afraid the answer depends on how much money I'll have available.

For me upgrading the PC will likely be cheaper than getting a PS3.  This is because I only own one 19" TV from the mid 90's.  I don't think I can connect a PS3 to it, it has no HDMI support.  So I'd have to buy a new TV and a PS3.

Where are you guys getting this information from that  saying PC will have a bigger advantage? I bet it will be very similar to the way FFXI is set up in regards to console/PC.

PC users do not have an advantage over consloe users in FFXI. Argue with me all you like but I claimed faffy, nid, KB and various other highly camped mobs all on PS2. I rarely had any lag.

As long as you have a good ISP with high uploads and downloads either system will be fine. (IMO) anyways time will tell)

AS for which system, I will have it on both but I will get it on PC first since I have a new custom built gaming PC. Then if its a good game Ill get it on PS3 down the road because a comphy chair and big TV is to hard to pass up.

You must have a ton of video cards SLI'ed to get top quality picture on  3 42"  LCD's

Do you even need a heater for your house? I bet the AC bill is a steep one lol

PC, I find the PS3 controls clunky and not as refined as using a mouse and keyboard.

lol yeah AC is always on even in the winter lol.

Honestly though what can a console do that a PC can't now days?

With my PC's I watch Movies, Watch TV, Listen to Music, watch music Videos, play Single player games, MOG's, MMO's, My work is done on PC, My Phone service is even a VOIP lol, Keyboard and mouse are much better than a game pad and even then I can use a game pad if I want or even use some stuff thats even better than typical mouse/keyboard combo (like I don't)

My basic all purpose controller choice

For when I need lots of Macro's

When Consoles can give me the performance and versatility of my PC's then I will consider going back lol.

Of course by the time it came out on the Xbox360 the game was aged quite a bit.

But for myself even though i have a 360, I just sank $2300 into a new comp. (which will be outdated next summer) but it should still run it fine. I'm looking forward to it!

Hmmm....so lag would be less worse on the PS3 than on the PC? That would make sense. Considering how many people voted PC over PS3, that would mean less people and therefore less lag.

In my opinion, prettier graphics seems to be the only real defining measure between PS3 and PC. That, and it would be interesting to see how I would play FF XIV with a dualshock 3 controller.

I will try the Pc first..If the game has allot of problems for the Pc..Then i will convert over to the Ps3.Either way..I am going to play this game regardless..:P

if SE allows pad and mouse gameplay, ps3 can give you that versatility, ps3 is compatible with almost everything.
