So I came back to DDO yesterday

RokurgeptaRokurgepta Member, Newbie CommonPosts: 2,136

Downloaded and resubbed to DDO yesterday 8/16/2009 and I noticed that the place sure seems quiet.

Logged on around 2 in the afternoon EST and found no groups in the 6 to 12 range at all. Found a few lower ones and some people doing high ones but the mid level was completely empty not one LFM.  Maybe because it was the last day of beta(I doubt thats the reason) or something.

Seems to me the delay has sucked the life out of the live servers. Not that they were too lively back in May when I left last time. I decided to come back in time to be in on the early release and I hope that Turbine gives me a reason to stay or I am pretty sure this will be the last time Turbine gets my money.

well, last night was the last one for the beta, was able to login, and it was very active, as far as stormreach itself. Started to look for some quests and was suddenly surprised by a sucubbi hitting me right there on harbormaster's plaza!!! Of course I was no match since I was only a lvl 3 fighter.

Repoped in tavern and kept walking around this time to see what else I could find around town. General chat was boling with activity, interesting spots where the beholder slaying in a bar and the white dragon in one of the plazas being hacked by around 10-15 people.

Some other interesting things that I noticed around town where some kind of dragon hatchling, a gelatinous cube and if im not mistaken, a meteor strking the harbormaster plaza.

Lets see what happens in the live servers!!

But I am talking about Sunday afternoon when nothing special was going on with the beta server. I am sure the beta party event was well attended as it should be. But last night I logged on late as I do during the week and my guild that used to do a raid every night or at least fill 9 of the 12 spots had 3 people on.

Still seems to me the delay and the fact that beta is closing with three weeks to go until the relaunch(more proof this game would be better off without the Paiz family) has made the live servers very quiet. I am sure when this all launches people will be back and new people will arrive but right now this game is a ghost town.

Thanks for the post about the last night of beta - I was going to post to ask :)

Did they have any quickfire sales in the store?  I got 400TP for $2 at the last stress test.  Being a vip and having never bought TP before, hopefully they use that sales data to see that "a penny a point" is a MUCH better "working" price [obviously, less than that is even better for the purchaser!]

You shouldn't be too surprised if logging into US servers during non-prime time hours.  Try logging in around 7-11pm eastern, there should be a huge difference then what you witnessed at noon.

Mind I played until 1 am with a break for a couple of hours around dinner. There was no groups running mid level even prime time. The difference was not much. DDO right now with the delay and the fact the ended beta like they did is too quiet.

Edit: For those who struggle with dates 8/16 was Sunday. I am not complaining about a weekday at 2 in the afternoon I am talking about a weekend, when prime times are not nearly as important as during the week obviously.

But where did you play? Live servers or beta?

Beta server was going to get apocalypse-like event, so while all people from live were able to log on beta, I'd expect to see most of them there. I mean, who cares about old game when new version is going live in 3 weeks from now.

When I logged into beta in those last days, it was unnaturally quiet too. That's normal, perspective of full-wipe of characters was in the air, so most players decided to wait until launch and stop wasting time.

But I'm really angry that I missed this apocalyptic, closing event. Maybe it's narrated in Polish, but just look at those screens!

Live server. So you are saying the live servers are dead because of beta and the beta is dead because of wipes. So where would all the people be?

ON Monday I would expect many to be involved in the end of beta event. Sunday I would doubt they were all on the beta server since everyone knew Monday was the last day of the beta so why spend time there Sunday when nothing you did would be saved?

Why would no one care about the old game? Or are you agreeing with me that the delay and more delays in the Mod since the beginning of the year have basicly driven off many, many long time players?

The game's population has greatly suffered from the "Vast & Mysterious" fiasco, albeit it's always been the 8-11 range that's had the least amount of groups listed.  The moments that the servers appear alive seem to be a very narrow window in NA prime time these days.

Hit me up if you're on Ghallanda.  I'm pretty sure there's a few lowbies in our guild that would run a few quests with you.  In the least, one or two of us could help fill a party.

All my mains are on Thelanis, but I may make a Ghallanda character just to start over no twink style.

hmm - i've been playing the free trial since the new beta ended

playing on Thelanis and noob town has lots of peeps running around - i get lots of invites (barbarians seem to be in high demand) and the grouping tab is pretty full

having a great time - - - should have checked this game out earlier :)

This is not meant as an insult or slight, but you have no frame of reference to compare DDO now to. What might seem busy to you or busy in one area may very well not be the whole story. I am coming back to a game with less people in my guild and less people playing in the mid level which I was looking for.

The lowbie area of DDO with free trials and rerolls has been more active for months. That alone in no way tells the entire story.

To you the grouping tab might be pretty full, but compared to what exhiactly? I am using my experiences over 3+ years of DDO to reference my comments on it seeming quiet right now. Even compared to 4 months ago before we knew what was coming with the F2P move and all of what should be in Mod9, the game is not hopping right now.

Welcome to the hidden jewel that is DDO, I think you have joined at a great time, F2P should give DDO the exposure it always deserved.

Funny enough I was expecting the European version of DDO to be suffering badly from US going F2P, the long delay between modules and the uncertainty in the Turbine/CM relationship, but in game it is actually business as usual. In fact slightly improved as people are working on their favour points so they are ready to unlock Favoured Soul.
