And decided to try this game out since I have a fileplanet account.  Played for a few hours today and had an absolute blast.  This is such a fun game so far, is there any reason why it its barely getting any attention?  Also, am I the only one loving this game that hadn't heard about it a week ago?

Well, I'd say it hasn't got much attention due to Icarus not having alot of funds to spend on grabbing the add space. They've done a few interviews and made a few shows. they also don't have any devs (or if they do, they reigned them in) who went around spouting off that FE was the best ever and all others are trash. They've been level-headed and hard working. All I know that I could ask for.

It's kind of a blessing, though. Without all of the hype it eliminates the subsequent growing monster of an expectation to be "perfect" at launch. FE isn't perfect, but it's damned fun and has concepts that I enjoy. I hope FE starts off at a moderate pace and just cruises along at an EvE like pace subscription wise. The games has some facets that the majority of the "modern gamers" will hate but that many more older gamers (notice I didn't say all) will enjoy.

Is the game really as unstable as I've been reading? I might give the game a shot if it's stable enough to actually play for any length of time.

    Current: None
Played: WoW, CoX, SWG, LotRO, EVE, AoC, VG, CO, Ryzom, DF, WAR
Tried: Lineage2, Dofus, EQ2, CoS, FE, UO, Wurm, Wakfu
Future: The Repopulation, ArcheAge, Black Desert, EQN

While the time i played on and off (more than a few hours each) it was fine. Every once in a while i would find myself having some down times with the quest system and stuff but by now they fixed it. I stopped playing the game because I am starting to get away from the mmo industry at the moment, until Global Agenda comes out. (I have college to focus on)

Well there's performance issues but it is playable

Well, I'll just say that I'm not being dumped out of the game any more than the other 20+ betas I've been in. The most I've ever been dumped out of game in one play session (which for me lasts 4 to whenever hours) is twice, and that isn't a regular everyday happening. Most sessions I never get dumped. There's a little lag in cities, but again, it doesn't last more than a second or 3 for me.

If you're running a P 4 whatever processor or equivalent (which is like what, a 7-8 year old build) you might have issues (and if gaming is your hobby and you like to play the latest games you might want to consider upgrading all or parts of your computer every 4 years so you don't have to worry about if your rig can handle a game). I've got a 3 year old rig that I outlined in  another thread here. I also went over the performance I was getting out of the game there. If you have a system close to mine I'd say give it a try. Remember to update your video card drivers and I'd recommend shutting down any programs you're running (though a firewall is cool as I keep one up always).

The game is far from perfect right now. But it sure is fun to play and community seems mature and helpfull. I dare to say that this will be a secret jackpot for all who dare to try it and enjoy post-apocalyptic lore.

No fate but what we make, so make me a ham sandwich please.

Unstable? It has it's problems but its playable for hours before it might crash. I have not expirienced major crashes at all lately.

I've only actually ever crashed a couple of times, although some people have had problems. "Your milage may vary", I guess.

I would recommend restarting every few hours, maybe....some people are still seeing signs of a memory leak lurking in there, but nothing major.

Thanks for the feedback all. I'm going to give it a shot within the next day or so.

I can't say I ever crashed out either.

I'm actually surprised its so quiet too.

I figured there would be a lot of noise once the NDA lifted.

I personally found everything outside of Sector 1 just to be dull.

Everyone should Open Beta this game prior to release. It has

some great ideas and maybe it could go somewhere.

I play on dial-up, though I have some "issues' in terms of lag(not as bad as Aoc at launch) I have tested this game for over a year. If you have problems playing this game, look at your rig, not the game.

I take back what I said about trying it out. It looks like you need to be a paying FilePlanet member, and I despise FilePlanet. I'll just wait until it's released.

I really loath when the persons computer is blamed for the poor performance versus the game's optimization.

There are/were plenty of people with varying configurations that had issues with performance. Town areas were the worst with Oilville being the main trouble spot.

I'm pretty sure the FIleplanet thing just needs you to be a registered member, not a paying member.

  • Gabby-airGabby-air Member UncommonPosts: 3,440

Nope you need to be a paying member but the devs stated there would be a public beta in a few days.

  • KhalathwyrKhalathwyr Member UncommonPosts: 3,133

I've not heard/experienced any issues around Oilville. Any trouble I've had is been around Embry.

As for it being quiet I think it speaks to that the game isn't as bad as some folks who it just doesn't appeal to try to make it out to be. Sure, it isn't the second coming, but it plays decently for a great many people (yes, some people have issues, but that's the norm for any MMO) and those that are testing/looking at this game I think in the majority are the type of gamer it was aimed at. It's not one of the mass "cattle call" games like WoW, TOR or Aion.

The Open Beta is now available to any registered Fileplanet user, you no longer have to pay and subscribe.

Thanks for posting this. I'm nearly done downloading the client! I'll be logging in within 30 minutes hopefully.

On day 3 now of this game.  Still loving it, its a ton of fun.  Haven't had a chance to try the pvp yet, really looking forward to that.  Now that fileplanet is giving out keys for free, anyone on the fence about trying it should really get some playtime in.

All I can say is.. Thank God this game is'nt another Theme Park WoW rip. It actually has sandbox elements.

2 thumbs up to Fallen Earth for not making another WoW clone!
