CCP Unveiled Dust 514 at a conference. It is a FPS/RTS MMO hybrid to be released on consoles. Players in Dust 514 fight on the planets from the EVE universe and system control in both games will coincide in some way. EVE players fight in space... Dust 514 players fight on the ground... both feed together to dictate control of systems in EVE universe.

console MMO = fail

Thank you for your infinite knowledge and wisdom. /bowdown

Yeah I saw this too. You know there may be something more coming to the PC. They may be delaying it for more cohesiveness with EVE, or for more tie ins with Ambulation. Whatever it is they are a wicked company and will give us good entertainment. All these emo kids on the internet are wearing me out this morning.

With any luck it will be included in EvE online, ZOMG!

Yeah or tied in with Ambulation. I am sure they have big plans. One of the few companies I have faith in for making good games and not being controlled by investors or publishers.
Brilliant business move!
Note:
I hope it will connect EVE industry with Dust ^^
HALO is a fail?
Why is it everyione wants to make everything for everyone. This should NOT be added to EVE but left seperate. This is an AMAZING idea that is easily one of the most innovative concepts in MMOs and shows that CCP and not Blizzard is the leader in this industry.
This concept melds two completely different kinds of players into a single universe. It creates an interdepency so that Dust units are not going to be effective with an EVE corp for support. The same BTW will apply in reverse.
While I am sure that some people will play bioth ways I think you will find that each game will have it's own real following with the common ground being the EVE Universe.
This is actually a BETTER announcement than I had hoped for as it does something truly innovative with the MMO concept. Bravo CCP for another move that shows why you guys are the best.

I have a soap box and I am not afraid to use it.

it wouldint suprise me that 60% or so on eve simply play a game like that because there comps suck ass and by the looks of the screenshot adding that to eve will blow there comps up
It might be converted to PC and 'implemented' in EVE one day...who knows.
Still I have mixed feeling about it. On one side it would mean impressive world complexity, on the other, FPS just 'does not fit' into EVE.
That is exactly why it is still its own separate world with limited interaction. I am sure many EVE players will take up Dust and vice versa. I will give Dust a try and if it is good, probably get back into EVE as well.
Hm...I do think that interaction between EVE and Dust would be truly epic. Imagine indy people of EVE building ammo, weapons and vehicles for ground combat of Dust(cash shop? hehe), Factional warfare affecting battlegrounds of Dust and vice versa, etc.
There is tons of good ways how to connect those two worlds together.

That could be really cool. You could have manufacturing plants that players interact with in EVE and it directly correlates to the supplies available in the FPS. There could be weapons researched and created in EVE that are then unlocked in Dust 514. There really are so many cool possibilities, but who knows what all will go in. I have always loved EVE for their ability to expand endlessly into stations, planets, etc. and this could be the first step in a long line of things to come for the EVE Universe.

Dust 514 will be released for consoles for one reason and one reason only.
So the Dust 514 client will be implemented into the EvE online client for the PC players.
Console and PC gamers will get to play Dust 514 together but the PC players will also have Eve online directly connecting to this New FpS/Rts hybrid MMO (planetary exploration).
Console + PC gamers playing 514 together = more players to fill all those planets.
EvE online and 514 being one giant client on PC means the worlds are connected while still being able to supply Console players with items from Eve online and visa versa.
CCP is smart you don;t release 514 on PC as a stand alone game if your going to incorporate it into the existing Eve online client that would be dumb.
Why make the games compete with eachother on the PC platform?
In 2-3 years this will happen watch.

Playing: EvE, Ryzom
Sounds pretty awesome if they can pull it off.
O_o o_O
Having console and PC gamers on 1 server? o.O
For anybody that plays Eve, ask yourself this... how do they get to the planet? Think about all the gate camps and all the rest. So there you are, you have a system locked down, running 23/7 camps on the gates into the system. Yet somebody playing on a console will take the planet from you.... um, yeah - dumb.
I tell you what, If they include this in Eve online I would re-up both of my subs in an instant. That would be awesome. But if it is only for consoles, I won't be playing either.
Tried: LotR, CoH, AoC, WAR, Jumpgate Classic
Played: SWG, Guild Wars, WoW
Playing: Eve Online, Counter-strike
Loved: Star Wars Galaxies
Waiting for: Earthrise, Guild Wars 2, anything sandbox.

1 cluster
And I agree with JGM... this will get tied fully into EVE eventually, probably as an optional download. Makes no sense to do it any other way. I'm actually pretty excited... I'll finally have a game that "Daddy" plays on the XBOX There really aren't that many games for the XBOX that I have ever wanted. Mostly we have games for the kids. And they mostly use the Wii... tbh we wouldn't even have the XBOX 360 if it hadn't come free with our HDTV

Um...Technicaly, I think you can make a multiplatform server for Xbox 360(?) and PC. That is the only way I know about.
Then, platform was not announced yet.
Second, would it be truly fair to share the battleground with 2 platforms?
I do not want to even think about hacks and crap that ruins every FPS.
Console platform was a good choice, imho. Business and fun wise.
That would be awesome and I hope you're right.
My excitement for a new title in the EVE universe is tempered somewhat by the console-only hype, but as we don't have any real details at this point, I'm hopeful that CCP agrees with me that PC gaming is a far superior experience in terms of customizability and control.
Time will tell.

Hard to say and I do see your point about the problem with hax/exploits on a fps. They may not tie it directly into the EVE client. But I guarantee the console game will be tied to a central server...
From their description the FPS and EVE will at least have significant data stream ties if they're going to impact one another in some way. But I also feel, because of that, that they will eventually bridge the PC/Console gap and have a playable version of the FPS for the PC as well that ties directly to the EVE client. Otherwise they really splinter their market.
And I strongly suspect it'll be XBOX 360 given CCP's strong relationship with Microsoft and the fact that they want DUST and EVE to impact one another. That and the XBOX is really the best FPS platform, imo. I don't like the PS3 at all and the Wii, while fun as hell, just isn't in the same league for that type of thing.

Honestly i don't think those were ingame graphics, but was a pure CGI trailer from a players perspective...
For example, there is no health bar, no ammunition... in other words no interface. Also when the buggy comes out of the street, the way it brakes and then shoots at the tank is just too nice... I've never seen a vehicle brake that smooth in any recent FPS game that was released. The same for its shooting, it was just too fast, too smooth
Also i doubt the game will be able to run with lots of players on those graphics. Consoles are quite limited regarding specifications and if they want to release a game with those graphics, i think the maps/zones you'll fight on will be limited to 32-64 players MAX. Not really an MMOFPS then is it?
And if it is limited with the number of players on the same map, will it be F2P or P2P, because if it's limited... in the end it's nothing more then a glorified FPS with EVE influence and it won't justify a monthly fee
Fragland.net - Fragland Arcade - Fragland.be - ScifiBelgium
My guess Loki is that it will be either F2P after purchase or it will include minor content addons for a cost. And it not going to be a massive game servers it looks entirely designed to be more of a FPS with a purpose.
to add to what you said:
with Consoles, you do not have to deal with (or CCP has to deal with) the near endless different setups of customer PC drivers, OS's and Graphics Cards. everyone will be on a graphical and technical playing field, in CCP's case, they can focus more on the game and its content working instead of figuring out how to make the game and content work on your PC if something randomly explodes.
The amount of momentum will be large if CCP is able to pull this off. Me personally coming out of the Planetside crowd, this has got me interested simply because of the scale that they described.
As for the infantry scale on the battlefield, one thing that will be standing in their way is the number of players that will be fighting in a zone/planet at a time (150 v 150 being the sweet spot)
