What this means for STO (launch day mega nerf)

Die_ScreamDie_Scream Member Posts: 1,785

...Is that Cryptic have sealed their reputation for making a fun game, then promptly nerfing the hell out of it, Sony-style.

Does not boost my confidence for STO, the game I was actually looking forward to from Cryptic.

alot of people seem to overreact to these nerfs that happen in all MMOs. Although I must remember most people lack foresight and believe overpowered toons make for a lasting experience.

Not sure what all the cries of nerf are about.  Yeah I see they did some balancing when I read the patch notes.  But, I've been playing all evening and it's still working just fine.  I even completed a mission tonight that I failed to complete yesterday, before the patch.  Obviously, the changes aren't that big of a deal.  I can still take on the same numbers of henchmen, still defeat an equal level supervillain solo.  Plays pretty much the same if you know how to use your character.  Everyone take a breath.

this is fine.  It's when the changes mean you can no longer take on 3 henchmen or complete that mission solo, thats when things get ugly.

    MMO wish list:

    -Changeable worlds
    -Solid non level based game
-Sharks with lasers attached to their heads

Everytime there is a balance, there are a sea of people crying over the changes. I have played ALL day long and have not had any problems with either of my toons in regards to the changes. It's a great game, period.

sounds like the standard you nerfed my blah blah blah.

time will tell.   also remember that this "nerfing" was done based on beta test statistics

played:WoW and Eve off and on 5 years
Tried:CoH/V, PoTBS, War, TR, STO, FE
    TOR is likely to rock

"Rock needs a nerf! Paper is working as designed!!"

                  --Scissors

Two days later when Scissors gets the nerf

"WTF? This game is too easy, no end content I quit"

Rock yells that this "Nerf" has made the game unplayable to him and says "They soiled their reputation"

Paper though is a fanboi and just smiles because the devs gave him "TNT" to one shot both Rock and Scissors.

I think in the end, you have to understand their intention is to create a balanced game. When they choose to balance (now or later) its better to do it NOW, rather than give an entire population of people who picked it up on launch date a taste of the unbalance.

It hurts a little now, because you may be used to the "I WIN" button but in time, you may find another, or just enjoy the challenge of a real rock-paper-scissors balanced game.

WAIT! You mean they didn't just write the code, test it and release it today? They've probably been working on this for a while? The heck you say! you know Bill Roper just wrote the code on a cocktail napkin and handed it to a minion and said "Hahahah, for launch make them all CRY!!!"

    ;)

I agree with you. This balancing was probably in the works for a little while, and the sooner they implement the less people will notice its implementation because they will never have had the invulnerabile PPF to begin with.

Well look at my PFF user. I agree it was overpowered before patch so I expected them to adjust it. What I didn't expect was for them to make it almost useless.

They dropped its defensive ability by 40%, fair enough I though, that seems about right. Buuut then they also upped mob damage quite a lot so the shield breaks now from any encounter with 2 or more henchmen and there the 3rd nerf came, if the shield breaks then its down for 5 minutes before it restores itself.

So the result is that I only have a minor defense now every 5 min IF i go afk for those 5 min between EACH fight!!!!

So they made sure that either I wait 5 min between each fight or I accept that I do not have ANY protection!

That is why I am pissed now.

I have my doubts about STO for many reasons, but maybe (lol) Cryptic has an attention span longer than a coked up ferret and won't make the same mistake with TOR.

This doesn't mean anything for STO I love how a company does something with one game and we take that to mean some type of precident has been set I played COH from launch and I don't remember any pre release "nerf" there.  Everything does not always set a precedent.

but yeah, to call this game Fantastic is like calling Twilight the Godfather of vampire movies....
